I have the MK4 one fitted to mine if you wanted pictures for reference, should you go down that route.

Not that I noticed! :)

What is this noise? Piston slap? (VR6) - maybe not the end of the world..
Jim replied to Jim's topic in Engine Bay
I'm accepting for now I'll just have to live with it and I'm just trying to decide whether I want to make my VR a real long term project... so an(other) engine rebuild, and a full respray, but accept that neither of those are likely to happen in the next year or so at least and just start putting money away to do good things to the car longer term. Just disappointed as the rebuild cost so much money and I thought that was the engine taken care of for years. I didn't expect to be needing to revisit it so soon. -
I wouldn't mind so much but all of the things done to my car come under a bog standard roll call of basic modifications which have been available on road cars for decades.. which is why I don't understand why it always means the insurer needs to go away to have a lengthy conversation with the underwriter. If we could get some kind of modified car / classic car 'Go Compare' type website which had some understanding of limited mileage type policies, or a place where you could put up your insurance requirements following a standard template, almost like an invitation to tender, which insurers could pick and offer you premiums.. now that would be awesome.

Yeah - it's even worse when it's really cold out. I think a rebore of the block and new pistons is going to be the only way to fix it, from speaking to Vince. Think I'd be tempted to go back to stock VR cams again as well as I do find the Schimmels noisy for some reason. -
*** low mileage*** 25k miles Corrado VR6 - SOLD

Wow! -
Useful to know - thanks. Will look into this next year as I've just done my renewal for the year on both cars!

The problem simply is just how time consuming and irritating it is ringing around insurers every year, having to reel off a list of modifications, then being told it's the best quote.. then ringing another.. then bouncing quotes off one another to try and get a price. I've got to the point now where my daily driver goes through a price comparison site, and the Corrado I'll just try 2-3 insurers max before just picking one quote. There really needs to be some better way of doing things. Like a standardised template you can fill out with all your details, details on the car including modifications, and then just drop them over via email or similar.

I believe it was just honed and the pistons re-ringed. -
M reg Corrado VR6 on what looked like the optional Le Mans wheels driving through Coventry earlier (Holyhead Road I think) today by a lady in her 40's? I've seen this car several times now and of course, as is always the case, I wasn't in my Corrado.

I've uploaded a video clip of starting my VR6 from cold. Assuming this is piston slap, is there anything else that can cure it beyond ultimately getting the bottom end rebuilt (again)? The noise is like that loudly for the first 15-30 seconds or so as you can hear in the video, then quietens a little but doesn't really go away until the oil temperature is about 80+ degrees. And then then, I'm pretty sure you can briefly hear it when you stop / start the car, or if you put it under any load. Cheers.

Use http://direct.the-corrado.net instead to access the forum to send your PM's, and the problem will go away. I don't know why it does this - some kind of anti-flood / anti-spam prevention system that seems to be getting a false positive, as I've had the same problem before.

I think the i8 is an interesting concept but too compromised still. If I was going to buy anything electric at this point, it's be a Tesla P85D. Would wipe the floor with the i8 performance wise too.

Google for Laserline 996.. will give you an idea! :) (it's a car alarm)

That's bollocks and you know it mate. Since when have we 'naughty cornered' anyone for having their point of view on Panjo? And I have to agree with David's point - I don't like it either. But it's a necessary evil.

That's appreciated Chris but I just don't have time to add them to the website currently. But if you want to scan them and send them through at your leisure, I can put them away until I do have time to upload them? :)
-
I'm willing to put in the effort to get these scanned in & put up on the website but.. just struggling for time at the moment and will be for a couple of months.

What Ian said :)

Currently only have the issues going back to October 2008, which is when I started making them - really only because I've never owned many back issues myself. Something we should look into trying to get archived.

From everything I've ever read, Dynamat is still the product to beat.. it's certainly what I'd use if I was going to be looking into replacing or adding to the sound deadening in my Corrado.

Look forward to seeing the finished pictures. It looks amazing in those pictures on their Facebook page already.

Here here! Pretty much sums up my thoughts.

Get the highest output you can afford. 70AMP will suffice but you'll find in the winter months, if you use your car, it'll struggle to maintain a fully charged healthy battery if you've got all the electrical accessories on, and (for example) the stereo, etc.
