    New Exhaust HELP!

that exhaust is rough  i hope it sounds good :!:
  2. Right don't laugh, but as previous post here's my home made guage pod, the template is being sent to Dave so he can consider whether he wants to fabricate similar units of better quality! It's a squeeze getting three standard 52mm guages in but just possible.
  3. fronts are piss so couple of hours, backs *may* be problematic due to bolts therefore anticipate 3 hours maybe more.... and relies on no major problems. depends on garage rate, at £25 hour you'd better budget £150
  4. good point about the bolts, if your cars essential make sure you can undo them all before cracking on with one side - especially rears for the rears you'd best be getting new bearings whilst your at it about £13 ea from GSF
  5. failry certain they have front and rear calipers for about £50ish, if your discs are cross drilled would recommend pagid fast roads - more dusty but harder wearing
  6. is that a problem :?: temp seems fine, are you saying your temp guage stuck on zero?
  7. wouldn't recommend being a QS mate IMHO, there's other options.... have a look at this website, similar and sometimes better pay scales http://www.rics.org.uk for ideas, and failry certain there is diplomas and conversion courses at colleges and uni's
  8. welcome mate, nice colour that
  9. quantity surveyor is like the accountant of the building industry.... great thing about construction is it's diverse, pretty interesting and you get to leave the office and visits sites a few days a week.... the downside is the money isn't fantastic when compared to other professions with lower stress and complexity levels. A good QS with 5 years post qual experience could be looking at £35 - £40k+ in London, obviously the better you are the more you get, and pay levels are regionally biased. The downside is the better you get the more 'managerial' role you take and you just end up driving a desk in the end - not the reason the profession is attractive From what I see, unless your highly driven in construction then you'll really struggle to make mega money (+£50k) as a professional. Better to become a sparky or a bricky and go and work at terminal 5 - standard sparks get £60k :!: If you do fancy the construction industry, decent consultancy firms in the sector are trying to attract 'conversion' students. i.e who's qualification is not necessarily construction related.
  10. ah dead easy 1. become a mechanic 2. go work for williams 3. take over team 4. dominate world. seriously tho, i'd have thought a business studies degree wasn't a bad start, ok it's a bit vague :D but why can't you try for a masters in automotive orientated subject or something that shows willing?! whatever you do your doing right thing thinking of changing it now, i'm jumping from my profession as soon as i'm able.
  11. ah torquay then :D there's getting to be more and more of us from SW - have to organise a meet sometime Weird about not having a thermostat, thought that would have taken you ages to warm up? re the sensor, I didn't know there was a sender down there?! from picture it looks like the one with a saucer shaped contact on it off the cylinder head - have no idea what it does tho, there's 3 or 4 other little ones on side of head too can't hurt to replace them but have heard not to tighten or they'll bust the thermoswitch supercharged mentions is same as thermostat switch i mention, but on valver it's bottom nearside of rad, i thought the ambient air temp sensor was attached to top of the brake cooler ducts, and if that's faulty presume your MFA temp sender won't work either? welcome to the world of valver sensor probs
  12. check the edge of your discs ain't catching your calipers - mine had drony noise until i realised the rusted edges on both sides were rubbing
  13. AFAIK the 1800 valvers have ISV control unit behind the dash, but never had cause to find it myself guess you'd just disconnect it for a g60 conversion as not needed due to ECU

    Humming hubs

for the fronts jack up one wheel, and in a high gear release the clutch VERY GENTLY to get the jacked up wheel spinning - if there is any play the sound will make it obvious. for the backs, take it for a drive, then fold down the rear seats and take it for another drive - if it's the backs it will be lot louder then get a mate to crawl around in your boot to determine which wheel - on a private road/ air strip of course
  16. spotted Exeter last night: - blue g60 i think? on alphington at 5ish red c going down heavitree road at 8ish.
  17. yep we're all miserable sods :D keep an eye on the spotted thread There is a sensor for fan overun, have a look at wiring diagram as I can't rememer what sensor controls it! Re heater problems 100 degs seems good to me, however, have you checked your fans running when your fully warm as the overun switch and thermostat switch (bottom of rad) are independant? Re changing the thermostat (tho it seems fine from what you've said) you've got to remove the power steering pump, as it's on the bottom elbow of the water pump - right pain in the ass.
  18. Yep still going to do it, i've got one TB which i'm working on and as soon as found a spare garage i'll be dismantling the one on car. Unfortunately it isn't just a case of chopping and rejoining, I'll have to fiddle with the springs and stops too. Other thing is the actual TB grows about 20mm, so the inlet manifold requires chopping and rewelding too! Seems a lot of work, but if you look at the OE inlet manifold the opening is pretty restrictive and I'll be getting over this problem with the mod.. I'm experimenting more than anything, as I'm consdiering forced induction route so this is just me messing in the garage for the moment
  19. sounds very interesting :D i'm currently chopping two 16v throtttle bodies in half and welding the two larger throttle openings back together. With a bit of fiddling this retains the progressive opening of one and then the other - only difficulty is incorporating an idle be interested how you get on
  20. Welcome! Did you buy the car in Essex by any chance? :D
