when you undo the 15mm nut on the tensioner it will lose tension the charger drive belt will go slack when you remove the mini shock absorber thingy...theres a special tool to remove it , but i just go with a thick and lean on it ...some people make a tool from a sealant gun? -

you can wriggle the cam belt tesioner out when the belt is slack the rollers...remove the charger drive belt and theyre held on with 6mm hex key bolts iirc -

yeah good call on the cam belt tensioner to check any of those you would need to remove them and spin them to listen/feel ...they should spin smoothly and quietly none of them are particulaly hard to change *edit i guess you could spray wd40 or similar onto each one to see if changes the tone, but id sooner have em off to check by hand -

theres 2 plastic rollers with bearings in ...they might have dried out ? non genuine belts are noisey ..get a vw one has the charger been looked at latley...might be a idea to have it looked at -
theres sposed to be a mesh in the breather pipe to help seperate the vapor...that might be mising most 16v get a little oil in the airbox between services...if its a little dont worry if its loads fit a catch tank so the pipe doesnt go to the airbox any more

wouldnt it be a wise upgrade to a metal gasket even if it is a early one?

make sure he uses the g60 specific gasket too..its not a regular 8v one 10 hrs sounds a bit high

around the outside or on the tip? rocker cover gasets leak on them

big end number 1 &2 were worn on mine at about 95k...put new ones in and its all good

i had some new vag bearings for mine and they had the oil hole iirc

you want to trace those hoses right back to where they fit the inlet mani and blank them there...that way remove the chance of vac leaks on those hoses run the tank vent into the lower airbox

its probably the down pipe heat shield....best get someone to put a tack weld on it to hold it in place

the stat is where the lower hose goes on the water pump....you can get a haynes for a mk2 gti, its got alot in common with a 8v gti, or bently do a proper one

if it boiled up theres a good chance of head gasket damage didnt the alterantor give any warning noises?

what the problem? the car should still idle and drive okay with out the isv, it might be more prone to stalling but it will drive

ebay.com search for 30lb ,#30, red inj, mustang, ford motorsport....you'l get a set of 8 and you can sell the rest to help pay for yours
