VR6 misfiring problem - all cylinders firing, but down on power
Stonejag replied to Reverend Frog's topic in Engine Bay
£20 posted should do it, let me have your address by PM and we can sort the money out afterwards :) -
A HID kit of above 2000 lumens light output requires self-levelling and a headlight washer system to pass your MOT. If it's under that light level to be legal you need electric adjusters operated from the driver's seat. Lots of info here but basically you constantly run the risk of being pulled for it. Under no circumstances use the cheap Chinese 'conversion' bulbs that fit your stock headlights - the beam pattern will be all wrong so you'll end up with a massive bright spot directly in front of you that ruins your night vision and inferior light output down the road. Plus you'll be blinding everyone coming the other way. They appear much brighter than halogen lights due to the high output right in front of you, but this is just an illusion. If the kit doesn't replace the existing headlight reflectors (eg with projector units) then it's definitely not going to end well. As a bonus, if you cause an accident then you may be denied insurance cover for driving an unroadworthy vehicle - not worth the (huge) risk IMO. What will make a big difference is fitting high quality bulbs (I recommend Osram Nightbreakers) and fitting a relay kit to get around the bizarre wiring in Corrados that limits the available voltage. Give it a try and you'll probably find you don't feel the need for HIDs any more, and you'll have saved a couple of hundred quid and be legal into the bargain! Stone

VR6 misfiring problem - all cylinders firing, but down on power
Stonejag replied to Reverend Frog's topic in Engine Bay
It does sound like the coilpack. VR6s are wasted-spark so there are three coils in the pack which have two outputs each. When one output goes bad it'll start occasionally missing on one cylinder, but then when the whole coil drops out it'll run like a dog (a geriatric dog, with three legs, crawling uphill through treacle) and be undriveably slow. Don't leave it that late or you'll be going home on a flatbed. The cause is that the plastic housing tends to crack which allows water to seep into the gaps and short the spark to the engine block instead of passing it up the HT lead. It is possible to seal up any visible cracks with epoxy (Araldite will do the trick) but they inevitably fail again - just another bit of poor design. That said they are still available from decent parts outlets - GSF do two types priced around £60ish or £90ish which are pretty much identical. I have a couple of spares if you want a cheap one to try out. Stone -
When they start to drink oil it's the beginning of the end. Mine was getting through a litre a fortnight by the time I stopped driving it  Stone

I've got a very nice-sounding 2-box stainless Magnex system in Bedford. Still on the car so detailed pics of the middle are a bit awkward right now, mind! It has one large rear silencer with the Magnex logo stamped into it and a smaller cylindrical one just rear of the decat pipe. It's oval tailpipe but a bit squarer than the average - not seen another quite like it. Found an old pic: £120, can chuck in its decat pipe if it's any use to you. Nick

I would split them, but only if you find someone to take the offside. Don't want to get left with half a set when I haven't got a Corrado to put them in!
-
I paid more than that each! With free indicators - and decent ones at that - it's a Brucey bargain. Hold onto them as spares.

Vinyl Corrado bonnet bra - black Bonnet bra in black PVC leatherette with felt lining; covers the front portion of the bonnet to keep the stone chip demons away. This is the type without the bumper 'flaps' (i.e. not a full gimp mask) - it just slides onto the front edge of the bonnet. Couple of light usage marks but nothing serious. Definitely fits a late bonnet - not sure about the earlier style but it should be fine as they're the same width and there is a bit of stretch to the material. Price includes UK shipping! List Date: 10/18/2015 For more info, click here to view the original listing: Vinyl Corrado bonnet bra - black -------------------------------------- On Sale For: ?40.00 --------------------------------------

The stock ones are plastic, but if yours is metal then Dave's your man :D -
Haha, no idea how that happened

The normal bolt-on upgrades are 288mm disks (off a Mk3 VR6/GTi) or 312mm disks which use the same calipers as 288s but with different carriers and spaced 6mm further out to accommodate the dished centre of the bigger disks. 288s fit under 15" rims (barely!) but 312s require bigger wheels - 17s would let them fit fine. You could go with 4pot or 6pot Brembos but the 312s will already pull your face off if you stop hard so there's not much point IMO! I'll be selling my 312 setup soon if you're interested... Stone

Oh Dear..... why do they feel as though they even need to try?
Stonejag replied to VR-Sixy's topic in General Car Chat
This used to be one of my favourite bits of Corrado ownership. Especially in an auto, it's only a light car and really a lot faster than they expect  Now I have the R32 the class of blowhards has improved slightly, but beating the "it's only a Golf" brigade is still satisfying. The last one was a short guy in a Z3 who looked very upset as I disappeared in front of him! -
Not to alarm you, but get this sorted out as a priority. The VR6 fan is a horrible bit of design - three live feeds and one earth, with two different value resistors to drop the current for the two lower speeds (the top speed is just 12V straight off the battery with no resistor). If the resistor pack fails then the result can be fairly exciting - because if it goes short then the fan will catch fire. Mine did this twice! The simplest way to check the two lowest speeds is to pull the connector off the back of the switch in the radiator (low down on the passenger side). It has three pins; bridging the brown wire to either of the two coloured wires will activate fan speeds 1 or 2. If they work from the connector then your rad switch is broken - a nice simple A pair of nice aftermarket fans (I recommend Spal) would be a much improved solution, though. Nick

I've got undamaged indicators too - £30 on top of the fogs. I'll let TC94VR have first refusal on them, though.
