Ceramic-coated Dubpower six-branch exhaust manifold - SOLD
Stonejag posted a topic in Parts for Sale
Ceramic-coated Dubpower six-branch exhaust manifold Really never thought I'd be selling this, but I've seen a car I want so need it out of the way. This is a six-branch VR6 stainless-steel exhaust manifold by Dubpower which has been professionally ceramic coated at horrendous expense. The coating is good to over 1200?C which means you don't need to ruin your tidy engine bay with ugly heat-wrap, never need to fear the manifold cracking from having missed a spot and it will give a massive reduction in radiated heat from the exhaust. Cost over ?250 to have the coating applied and the manifold retails for ?329 so this is an absolute bargain - the perfect match for a supercharged VR. I'll also throw in an OEM exhaust heatshield that's been chrome-plated and then mirror polished. The ceramic will render the heatshield unnecessary so why not add some extra bling at the same time? :-) Collection from Harpenden (M1 J9) or I can courier it out at extra cost. Schimmel Performance 263 VR6 cams (with gears and trigger wheel) No need to wait for another group buy, these are here now. No introduction needed: these are hands-down the best-regarded performance mod for a VR6, providing a dyno-proven 20bhp increase. Bought for a complete top-end rebuild that got permanently derailed by fatal chassis rust. My loss is your gain... Includes cams, gears, a brand-new cam trigger wheel and a pair of brand-new bolts (all direct from VW at hilarious expense). Collect from Harpenden (M1 J9) or I can post at the buyer's expense. Free: large Corrado O/S repair section Free: big chunk of Corrado: all the way from the rear light cluster to the front edge of the door on the driver's side. Some floor pan / boot floor is included but the suspension turret etc have been hacked about a bit so the outer skin is probably all you want. Decent sill and perfect wheel arch / fuel filler. Bought as a repair section for mine (I was going to let the body shop decide how much metal to use) but mine is fatally rusty and this lump is taking up a lot of room! Please come and take it away. You can have a free rear window as well (still in the metal - seal is perfect) - it was cut off this lump. Think the colour is aqua blue, but I could be wrong. You'll need a van or pickup, as it's over 2m long and nearly a metre high! Located in Harpenden (M1 J9). I've got one I need rid of. In fact I have both sides, it's better if you take a pair... Free + P&P.

Cheers, chaps. Unfortunately my car's shell is now so rotten it's been refused an MOT - not failed, it was so bad they abandoned hope in the middle and told me to take it away! Parked it up offroad while I work out what's going to happen next but I may well end up having to break it. Not a very happy bunny. :(

1995-2015: RIP...?

I haven't had a good look yet as it's still at the garage but apparently the sills have been slowly rotting from the inside due to the (standard-issue...) holes in the back of both front arches. Needs a whole new floor pan so to be honest I've lost the will to keep fixing things. If I sorted this out and something else went I'd probably end up setting it on fire, it's safer for my sanity if I walk away. I have the whole of another car's offside (from the front of the sill to the middle of the boot, about 16" deep) sat in my living room and a pair of OEM a-pillar repair panels (front of the sill all the way around the top of the door to the rear edge) so it could probably be done by someone with the will, but I've just reached my limit with it and doing anything more would be too painful. Could easily be convinced to sell it whole if someone else wants a go, I've tons of history and bills into the five figures, along with multiple £k of spares. All the parts for the complete head rebuild that would have come next (chains, tensioners, Schimmel 263 cams, ceramic-coated Dubpower six-branch, plus some bits I had chromed) are also piled up in my house. But my heart's not in it :( Luckily they aborted the MOT in the middle so it's not officially failed. I'll get it back tomorrow with the last day of its existing MOT and see what happens next...

Unfortunately the MOT revealed fatal chassis rot so it will now be broken :( Thanks though.

Whoops, forgot to mention that! My current one is 535 919 235 BA.

Could do, but they'd have to be fairly skinny as all my wheels have offset in the 20s. I'd also have to downgrade to 288s since they're all 15". Would much prefer finding the genuine article but it's a frustratingly empty market right now...

My ABS light fell apart in my hands earlier...particularly upsetting since I was unplugging it before my MOT and after it disintegrated I turned the ignition on and heard the ABS start up successfully :bonk: So, anybody got a cheap one? Ta :) Stone

Still don't seem very common! I have tons of nice wheels for the Golf, is it wrong of me to be considering a 4x100 swap?

Corrado best cars you don't see on the road.....
Stonejag replied to Chuggs1's topic in General Car Chat
I saw another one on the road last week - admittedly for the first time in ages. Must admit I get more attention driving the Mk1, seems not many remember the C fondly! -
I've got a set going cheap that need a refurb if you're interested? 5x100, 16x7.

Please help! Can't get into my Corrado!
Stonejag replied to Davidjhopkins's topic in General Car Chat
Agreed, I would take the grille out and try to release the bonnet that way. I've seen it done from below the car but you need a very skinny arm and preferably a 4-post lift! It's possible to get the grille out without breaking any of the clips but it's not easy. They're only £20 anyhow. Could always try some WD40 in the boot lock, the design of the back of the car tends to suck dirt up into them. Of course if it's a different key that won't help... Full-closure doesn't open the windows during unlock, sadly. -
Saw a nice-looking dark blue example, lowered, 3-slat grille between Redbourn and Harpenden last week. Didn't wave as I was still half-asleep

Updated due to Corrado's demise... Would like to get in some winter wheels for the R32. 17x7 Compomotive MO5 or Speedlines (2110s? 1440s? Try me) preferred, but I'd take MO6s for the right price. Thanks :)

Thread resurrection! I got a Facebook notification about these today - apparently Performance VW is going to do an article on them soon. Pics from when the owner first loaded them up: link Detail pics: link Stone

PCV stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation - i.e. the oil vapour from the top of the hot engine gets sucked out by the pressure in the inlet manifold. The valve is just there to open this channel into the inlet only when there's a decent amount of manifold vacuum (e.g. you're at full throttle) so there's enough airflow to draw the oil vapour into the engine to burn it off. The blue plug - which as correctly stated above is just a connecting piece with no electrical pins in our cars - contains a heater element in cars with the cold-climate pack (only Canada?) which stops the oil vapour condensing on cold engine parts like the ISV when it's chilly out. We don't need it as it doesn't get cold enough. You can just replace the lot with a straight hose into the inlet elbow with no ill effects - there'll just be slightly more oil in the inlet than usual so you'll need to clean your ISV every couple of years. Don't forget to plug the vacuum line to the valve! If your inlet elbow is the plastic version it's probably cracked around the bottom of the corrugated section since they almost all are - the early rubber type don't do this as badly. Run a hand over the underside of the corrugated section - if it comes away oily it's probably split. 42draft Designs do an alloy inlet elbow replacement which will never split... Stone

I found 215s to be way too wide, to be honest (fitted on 17x7s) - steering became very heavy and the tramlining was awful. Changed wheels, tyres went from 215/40/17 to 195/45/16 (on 16x7s) and the improvement was very noticeable. Would prefer 195/50/15s but they won't go over my 312s! I find http://www.tyrestretch.com to be very useful for looking at how cool/stupid/dangerous a tyre combination is going to be. My Golf uses 175/55/15s as needed some extra clearance from the arches and they didn't come out too ridiculous, but I wouldn't want to push it much further than this. Stone

Legality of smoothing side and front indicators?
Stonejag replied to TomBarker1991's topic in Exterior
Found some old pics of the donor bumper I used. Apparently the whole car was this colour! :bonk: Might help you get it looking a little closer to stock. Stone
