I've got a mk2 one, I'll try it and let you know.
-
that's why there is so much primer on show then. the bitumen has gone. someone's been in there looking for the water leak and removed it. Surprised my how badly the car is painted actually. not the bodywork, but underneath and aunder the seats is crap, nost of it is bare primer, hard;y any body colour. up in the suspension turrets is the same, bare shutz. I'll get a tin mixed up and paint it.
-
so is it meant to be so badly painted? mine loks like it's had some sort of soundproofing or something in there and someone has pulled it all off, leaving an outline of where the paint stops and the primer is showing.
-
The eare where the ECU is, and the wiper mechanism and motor. Is it meant to have a plastic cover over it? Is it meant to be painted in there? mines in primer and only the edges have paint. some muppet has been in there trying to fix a water leak and put silicone sealant all over the place (even were there are no joints....) and I'm trying to tidy it all up.

ah, feck, I was going to do that too! My mate said the controller is sh1t anyway, he was going to design another one, with a digital readout and a dial so you can adjust the switchover point really easily and experiment with it a bit.

This engine hasn't been run since September 2001!!!!! it's quietened now now though thankfully. I could only run it for about a minute, it's got no coolant in it yet. Battery has given up the ghost, 3 weeks of contant draining and charging has killed it. so I've nicked the one off the lupo until I can get another. hoping to pick up a proper battery at inters.
-
Have you all mounted the controller inside the car so you can see the light changing colour?
-
Brutal is the word! oh, and i've got it running now too, so with a long shift tonight it'll be ready for inters after all. Hmmm, tyre testing anyone?
-
Such a releif! Not I've got to move 3 cars to get it out of the garage and see if it drives OK.
-
 YEEEEEEHAAAAA, the VR6 has finally barked into life and if now purring away like a good un. hopefully my hose clamps and oil cooler hoses will turn up tomorrw and I can put her back together and test drive her!! I can't wait!! it's bee 3 long weeks off the road, about 70 hours labour and at least £1500 in those 3 weeks alone (not including the bits I already had) I reckon, let's hope it's worth it.

4000rpm is 100mph in mine (in 6th  )
-
Timing it is p1ss easy. I have pics of all the timing marks if you need them.

No, it doesn't throw it out. The speedo drive is on the side of the diff, and rotates at the same speed as the driveshaft (and hence the wheels, that's how it measrues road speed, providing you have the right tyres on it)). All the final drive does is alter the relationship between the diff and the rest of the gearing. Whish as you will all know, is horrendously long and ruins the car.
-
At least us that are "in the know" about the VGI can be happy in the knowledge that our cars are now showing their true potential. Now go buy an ATB diff and a 3.94 final drive and find out what the VR is REALLY all about. If I get mine done in time for Inters I'll happily take anyone out for a razz in it to show you just how much difference changing the gearing makes. In fact, I think I'll have to sprint it just to see what it'll do.
-
I don't know how you no-DIY guys can afford to run a VR6. The costs or engine work would scare me shitless.
-
It is possible, but at 100K you may aswell go for a head gasket change, a full set of chains, a head rebuild and a new clutch. You cna't do the upper chain unless you remove the gearbox, clutch and flywheel.
-
I can't wait to get mine back on......that mid range grunt in 3rd is awesome. I find myself backing right off until the road ahead i empty, then just planting the throttle and letting it tow all the way from 2000rpm right to the redline. then slowing and doing it again because it sounds and feels SOOOO f*cking good!
-
Just zymol the car. the water just runs off as soon as you drive it.
-
No, I painted the old one.
-
Well, here's me.
-
I f*king love those wheels!!!
-
Yep. it's as good as, if not better than a factory VR6, just has a peloquin diff instead of the poxy traction control. It even has a standard VR6 back box on it.
-
Nope not yet, but I'm assured it's on it's way. That's why I'm cleaning it, I'm stuck for things to do now.
-
More updates. 5 stud wuide track is all on now, including late golf vr6 288mm front brakes, all fully refurbished and painted. Polished speedlines are on it for now too until I get the arches rolled. as you can see, they will need pulling out a bit. Samco kit is on, just waiting for Mikalor stainless clamps now. Who says Zymol isn't worth the money..... Ride height has gone up a bit, but I can live with that until Iget new suspension. at least it shows off the super clean inner arches. Arty shot just for the bling factor. 8)

stock!? nah, you don't want any of that :-P uprated all the way!
