I think I'll get a bike once I've ran out of things to buy for the corrado. until then, the money pit gets deeper and deeper....
-
I might have time to fit a couple for any northern peeps.

Not sure how much the big crank seal is, I got it cheap as part of a job lot of timing chain bits I bought at inters last year for £35. I think the seal is about £20 on it's own. Dealers will charge £900 for the work to do all the chains. I wouldn't let an "average spanner monkey" on the car.....use a VW specialist who knows the VR6 engine inside out. like Stealth for instance. 78K isn't high mileage for a VR6. but once it get's past 100K you need those chains doing.
-
once the gearbox is off it's easy. only 6 clutch bolts and 10 flywheel bolts. Might as well do the chains and crank oil seal and clutch whislt you're in there though. I wouldn't strip the box off purely to do the flywheel on it's own, but if you need to go in there for anythign else you may as well do the flywheel too.

Touch wood, I haven't had a problem with my raod yet, except the parking dint...and the minor crash, both of which were no fault of the car.

It never ceases to amaze me how useless the dealers can be.....it's their job to know things like that but they are too lazy, and just ask for a chassis number all the time instead. I once had one arguing that the 2.9 never even existed!

Sound like a right bunch of cowboys to me, I wouldn't let muppets like that anywhere near the car.
-
be aware that the parts are also horrendously expensive. I've spent £500 in the dealer in the last month on engine bits and bobs and daft clips, bolt snad generally nothing.

I can't wait to see it done. After going through a full body mod respray myself I know what a stressful time it can be. Best of luck, how it turns out as good as you're expecting. -
it was originally going in an orange car. Wait until you see the samco's!

well, after reading some of your replies in this thread I'm beginning to think you ARE a sad old man actually! Can i interest you in a second hand standard front mount?
-
Err, no, the bonnet is open, it's nothing to do with that. I'm comparing the bottom of the block (sump gasket) with the top of the rad support (which is level as it sits flush under the chassis legs).
-
That's because they were driven by sad old men for 10 years.
-
would that be the one that protects the plastic fuel tank from the heat of the exhaust? yes, you need it.

I've broken a standard corrado VR6 mount, with a standrd corrado VR6 engine, hence I wnet out and bought a vibratechnics one. I ran a vibra one on my 2nd VR6 too, and am running one (well, 3 actually) in the corrado too. It's not so much the mount, more the design of it. it has a bolt going into it. the head of the bolt can snap off due to stress concentration under the bolt head and the way the front mount bracket can knock against it as the bolt stretches with age. the vibra one is a stud, with a nut, which is less likely to snap I've found out the hard way, buy losing a bonnet, I'm not prpared to have it happen again, so It's uprated mounts all the way for me.
