  1. Freshly installed 1994 ABV into a corrado 2.0 8v. Finally got a VR6 ECU for it, although I was told it may not be in full working order, but it was free so I thought I'd give it a go until a proper one turns up. Fired the car up, it ran for about 3 seconds then died. Now the fuel pump will not run. I''m guessing the ECU has shut it down because it's either sensed something it doesn't like, or because it's f*cked... ??? Anyway, I frigged out the pins to make the fuel pump run and fired it up again. This time, the bolt I have blocking the pipe where the carbon cannister usually enters the manifold shot out like a bullet, with a huge POP too!!! then white smoke started coming out of the MAF (I have no air filter on yet) WTF?!?! Are my injectors sticking open? they haven't been used for over 2 years, and I hear they can gum up. Can I clean them myself or do I have to send them away? Or is it something else? I have 10 days to get the car finished before GTI International....

they look cheap and nasty form a distance too, they are french!
  3. your timing belt tensioner could be on it's way out.
  4. Doing it the way I have done is the only way I could afford a decent corrado VR6. and for the same money as what most of you paid for your standard one I have a highly modified one. So the tools have almost paid for themselves. as for Storm owners  money to burn..... :|
  5. I've only been into working on cars for 5 years.....I had no tools of my own at all when I moved house 3 year ago. And I've never had any automotive mechanical training whatsoever. But, I have wasted a lot of money, and all my hair after building a car and being constantly f*cked around and ripped off by just about every company in the UK. I won't even pay for a car wash these days. So, I'm just particularly bitter about them making any more money and stressing everyone else out and putting them through the same sh1t I've been through. It's not rocket science, it's nuts ans bolts and I know the pride and satisfaction you can get from knowing it's all your own work. hence why I always like people to just get on with it themselves. That's what these forums are for, to help people do their cars themselves on a budget and enjoy it. There's no fun at all in just spending the money. not for me anyway.
  6. Keep your eyes on ebay, VR6 head come up now and again. buy a valve spring compressor for £30 and strip it yourself. you can even port it yourself, then take it to an engine builders to get new guides fitted. Then rebuild it yourself too. It'll cost you a fraction of the price.
  7. Going for fire up tonight....fingers crossed.
  8. Well, it’s kind of a long one, but I'll try to be as breif as I can! I always wanted a corrado Vr6, even like 7 years ago when they were about £13K. even today, I’d never spend that much on a base car, so I bought a mk2 Golf GTI instead. Over the years the car gradually ended up with a 2.8 VR6 setup, which lastest a year, before being changed to a 2.9 lump. A corrado dash and clocks also ended up the car, as did early corrado seats.. So, in a round about sort of way I almost had a corrado, but not quite. Anyway, I blew the gearbox up at York Dragway 2.5 years ago. Took the car off the road for that and to repaint the engine bay. Got a bit carried away and converted it to 4wd! Anyway, I got a bit sick of the this shell, it needed new paint all round, and I was loathed to pay another bodyshop. I was missing out on the shows in the meantime so I bought a ratty old mk2 shell for £80 and another 2.9 engine and threw it all together for a bit of fun. Ran that for 6 months, and ended up getting banned! During this time I was pretty down, and lost heart with the first mk2 and even tried to sell it. I was going to chop it up at one point. Somehow, I still kept it, but decided that a reshell was the way forwards…but not another mk2, this time I’d go for a corrado. It had to have all the late panels, but be straight, the right colour, and not in need of paint. And £2000 was my budget. After realising there was no way I was going to get one for £2K I had to stretch to £3000. this excluded all but the rattiest of VR6’s, and G60’s, so I decided to go look for an 8v. I found a green one in Peterborough, travelled down to look at that, but it turned out to be a dog, and the rear quarter was full of filler, looked at it for about 20 seconds…….the only other one that came up was a Dark burgundy pearl one with 68K on the clock, but it was £3500 and in Cardiff. This colour was WAY up on my list, so I got in touch with the guy and he emailed me a few pics. It was just what I was after. So I rang him and we talked about me coming down to see it. He was OK to wait a while until I could come down. Then, a few days later he rang me saying a dealer wanted to come and look at the car tomorrow, so I said “well I’ll have to come down today then!” so I went home, got my cash, and jumped on the first train to Cardiff! Luckily I know a few lads from Wales, one of them picked me up from the station 5 hours later and took me to the guys house. Unfortunately it was dark by then, so I couldn’t really see the colour that well, but I was satisfied that it was straight, and I still need to get home! We agreed on £3100 and I drove home a happy man. I was gutted the next day when I realised the glass sunroff was NOT a passat item but actually an aftermarket one!! I nearly sold the car!! But I convinced myself it was nicely fitted and not a cheap bit of kit but actually about £800 worth and fitted before the car was even registered! Anyway, that was back in September. I’ve since fitted all the stuff in my sig to the car, hoping to finally drive it in a week or so.
  9. A good set of cams will net you up to 20BHP. I've been told head porting does very little unless you know where to port. gasket matching the manifolds to the head is far better. I had 207BHP out of my old 2.9 with the cams, chip and VGI.
  10. No you can't. the big 3 speed motor needs the fan controller and the big fuse. it's too big to kick over with a normal fan switch.
  11. definitely sounds like a fan controller problem. or maybe the yellow coolant temp sensor.
  12. I bet you don't get new valves, lifters and all that for £495. maybe new guides and stem seals, but I bet that's it.
  13. £500 for a port and polish! you could buy a compressor for that and start doing your own! seriously, that is a sh1t load of money for just a quick port clean up. Speak to grant motorsport about proper headwork. check german ebay, there's usually some schrick 268 cams on there for about £480. which will worck very nicely with the VGI.

Hmmm....maybe, due to the 'known' problem with stripping threads?...are they new?.. no, i've had them a year, and I bought them second hand too.
  15. Why didn't you just do it yourself, it wouldn't have cost you anything other than the parts then? why is it, that golf owner  s will have a go at fixing their cars, but corrado owners won't, when essentially, it's the same car underneath??

as if it isn't low engouh already....
  23. small one will give you mid range, at the expense of top end flow. big one will give you top end power, at the expense of mid range torque. your call. I'd go for the mid rnage over top end any day if it's a daily car. if it's a weekend racer, then go for top end power.
  24. My 94 8v has a flat rear seat.
  25. Hmm, strange. I hope he hasn't shut up shop before refunding me! I'll ask my mate, he knows the guy personally.
