You could remove the fan intake screen and run a bead of silicon around the seal and refit. Worked for me...and plenty of others from what I can remember.

Not strictly true...I've had some battery issues recently too so I had a poke around. The quiescent current draw was around 220mA, with 150mA accountable to my Alpine headunit even when it's turned off. I considered this high so I tested a friend's Calibra Turbo, which has the same headunit (along with an alarm), and his car was drawing a quiescent current closer to 600mA - he has had no issues with flat batteries. It's all very strange.

Awwwww.....I was hoping for some more pretty pictures. -
I'd call that a bargain

I'd like to see more pics! Sweet looking Corrado.

If the speedo is working then it's not going to be a speedo cable problem. My guess is you'll need to replace the speedo unit itself...but probably easier to get a complete set of clocks. Expect to pay about around £40 - £50 and set aside an hour to change. The MFA fuel economy meter is driven by a vacuum hose connected between the back of the clocks and the inlet manifold. I expect it's either become disconnected or has split.

It's probably very close in formulation to probucts such as Wonder Wheels.

Anyone ever considered a TDi engine conversion?
bcstudent replied to chris g's topic in General Car Chat
I can only assume that's directed at me. If so: I wouldn't say I took offence exactly, but when someone implies that a course of action I'm planning to follow is going to make me look like a berk I'm inclined to go on the defensive! If not: my bad. My point is this, plain and simple...the 1.8 16v Corrado can not be described as an inspiring drive. The things it does well are: look good, handle well and be comfortable with a good driving position - as pointed out by Henny previously - but the straight line performance and 32mpg do not provide a balanced equation. Adding an engine that gives similar performance with greatly increased fuel economy can not be a bad thing in my opinion. As a commuter tool it will be perfect. It doesn't have to be fast...that's why I bought an R1. I too love this forum and that's the reason I keep coming back! -

And you'll look a berk driving a 10 year old Coupe with an agricultural engine worth more than the car under the bonnet.... And you'll sound like one by expressing such a rediculous opinion.... My dad's Land Rover 2.5D is agricultural. A VAG TDi is clearly a few leagues higher in the refinement game. As for the issue of the car value/engine value, if economy alone was my primary motivation I'd be off to buy a £200 Fiesta diesel. You make it sound like nobody has ever spent more on engine modifications than the total value of the car before. Oh and, for the record, you can make that a 15 year old Coupe. -
How do you explain the humped carpets in the boot then?. I had a Sebring spare when I got my car, which fitted fine 'spokes down'. I have no solution for you but it's definitely possible.

Personally, I think it's a bloody excellent idea and I'll be doing the very same thing to mine as soon as time, space and money all reach acceptable levels. Sacrilige? Whatever! It's a VAG engine in a VAG car. If it was a Perkins people were talking about then I'd tend to agree. -
Tell me more about Honda Prelude 2.2 VTECs..
bcstudent replied to Rawhide's topic in General Car Chat
From what I remember of my mate's 2.2 Prelude it wasn't anywhere near VR6 performance. To be fair it was, in fact, rather dull. It was a silver car with a red leather interior too. Not nice! -

"D'ya like dags?" "I fu**in' hate pikeys!"

*yawn* I completely disagree - I'm a huge fan of the 1.8T motor. It's these differences of opinion that keep the world interesting I guess.

Damn that blue Corrado is low.
-
Very possibly. It seems far to cheap to include the kit.
-
Crikey....sounds like a friggin' bargain to me!

A puddle that size really shouldn't stop a Land Rover with a half decent driver!
-
Nope, I'd recognise that Escort anywhere! Sorry it's taken so long to reply but I'm in Canada at the moment.

No, perfectly sane. On Monday I spent three hours waiting on the side of the road for the RAC with a girl I know after she called to say she'd broken down - nice response time for a lone female by the way Mr. RAC. She too was slightly disillusioned about her Corrado at the time. It turned out to be a stupid ignition fault caused by the incompetent garage she used the week before. A couple of days later and the love has returned.....

Those wheels....new pants please....

Hahahaha.....so we were talking about the same forum last night then. I'm surprised I missed this thread before. Do you still own the yellow Golf? I thought that went a while back. I can hardly believe it's still on the road after the abuse it suffered at the hands of the previous owner.

Wow, that's a fairly massive contrast in styles. I vote for the BBS LM...if you can afford them/find a set.

My FKs have also been perfect with no steaming up that I've noticed. I will say that the chrome finish is going a bit skanky after just over a year on the car. You can't see it until you open the boot though.
