Hmmm...possibly. There's an inspection plate on the bottom of the bell housing but it's not the same thing. I really should pay more attention when I start these jobs.

I'm not keen on the boot spoiler on the Mk.2 but apart from that it's a beauty. The wheels on the SLC look fine too! Nice collection you have there.

I think it'll need some air too! If you have a spark at all then surely the Hall sensor is doing its job in telling the ECU to fire the coil. Wouldn't a weak spark more likely be down to a faulty coil or other ignition component?

I swear I tried everything - from what I can remember, the problem was that the flange fouled a thin metal plate between the engine and gearbox rather than the block itself. Is that the part you're talking about rotating the 'box around? I hate changing clutches and am certainly not planning on doing it again soon.

I had trouble finding this thread again because I was looking in the Drivetrain section! That guy is guite funny. I had a lot more trouble than that changing the clutch in both my 8v Golf and 16v Corrado. It was simply not possible to get the gearbox across far enough and off the engine output shaft without removing the offside driveshaft flange from the gearbox. Despite the increase in speed of the movie that all seems mighty fast. He did well to get the gearbox back up on his own as well I thought. I can remember a friend of mine testing a front hub repair on his Golf after the siezed wheel bearing wore it down. He welded it up and turned it down on a lathe then tested it it in a similar fashion to that guy and his clutch....."I've never been one for good ideas". Quality entertainment!

My boot build has a false floor made from 8mm MDF. There are two batons, shaped and siliconed to the boot floor, that run from the rear panel to the rear seats. The false floor is screwed to those. The sub box is the width of the boot so the floor needs little strength. *EDIT* If you're making a false floor that covers the access panel to the fuel pump in the tank I urge you to design the build carefully. It will be a good idea to leave a cut out in the floor that allows access to the panel/pump and put the sub box over the hole. In case of fuel pump failure you only have to remove the sub box and no the whole build. I wish I'd though about that when I put mine in, especially now as the pump is getting mighty loud :roll: Incidentally my build has been squeak and rattle free so far. I can't see the need to weld anything in for the sake of a stereo.

I'm pretty sure a 20VT Ibiza would need a turbo upgrade for that sort of power. Correct me if I'm wrong.

*sigh*....I know it's not technically my fault but I was still gutted. All she had to do was open her eyes. It's still on my mind too - the sort of distraction I don't need with my PhD supervisor breathing down my neck for this research paper. I'll remember this next time I try to help any other road users.

Think yourself lucky - my PS pump is knackered and I have no PS until the fluid thins out a bit. In this weather that can take 10 miles. Really should sort that.

Ok, so today I'm out on the R1 for the first time - roads are dry but salty and it's very cold. I do about 15 miles then turn around and head home. Back in the town I get to a long straight section of road. There's a bus pulled stopped to pick up passengers and two cars waiting behind it in front of me. To my left is a car waiting to pull out of a shop-front parking area so I leave a gap between myself and the car in front. The (woman) driver of the car pulling out is looking at me as if she's waiting for me to tell her whether it's clear, so I stick a hand up to stop her pulling into the path of two oncoming cars. As the final car gets level with her I put my hand down to signal all clear after the car has passed. It's right in her line of sight so I assume she's seen it. She doesn't look left or right for anything and maintains eye contact with me whilst driving straight ahead into the rear quarter of the other car. In a way I feel partially responsible but I have no idea how she didn't see the other car - it must have travelled past her as she hit it in the back. There very minor damage but I'm still shocked that such a dumb accident took place. Your thoughts please.

Yeah, it's part of the alternator - the voltage has to be regulated as the load on the alternator is not constant and neither is its output, which is directly proportional to the speed of the engine. The rectification is to convert the generated AC into DC. A defective regulator/rectifier will cause the exact symptoms you're experiencing, as stevemac said. A higher voltage across the resistive temperature and fuel instruments allow more current to flow in the heater coils of the gauges, making the readings unstable. If the problem isn't fixed there's also the possibility of the battery exploding as you're boiling the diluted acid inside. This is, obviously, a worst case scenario.

Buying a Focus tonight.... Advice?

My sister's boyfriend has a 52-plate Focus TDCi, which he's had from new and done about 40k in. So far he's had no problems at all with it and it really is a peach to drive apparently. I got a lift back to Norwich from Heathrow in it once and was quite sutprised by the performance. -
Well I think I've found my favourite styling feature of the bike...I'm a sucker for a blue light.

The front suspension doesn't look compressed at all. Either there isn't any suspension at the front, or there's something going on to the right of the picture that we can't see. -
Just for the sake of it, here's a 'seasonal' pic of the Corrado as it currently looks, i.e winter wheels on, covered in crap and battery on charge. Yummy! The Land Rover in the background has seen considerably more use than the Corrado in the past couple of weeks. * EDIT * I've just noticed there's snow on the roof - hopefully it'll be the last of the year.

I've just taken delivery of this. Ok, I know it's not: a) a Corrado, b) a Volkswagen or c) a car....but it does have 1046bhp/ton and I'm very pleased with it. There seem to be a few members with bikes out there who may appreciate it....anyway one picture does have a dirty Corrado in it.

Five valves per cylinder....the same way VAG do with the 4-cyl 20v engines, and Yamaha do with the new R1 (and old FZR1000). I think if there ever was a VR6 with a 30-valve head it'd be much better known. That car lives in the wibbly-wobbly world of make believe.

Bear in mind that the Seat Leon has done better in the JD Power survey then the Volkswagen Golf for a couple of years.
