Sad, sad day - company car ownership looms....
2cc replied to stormseeker's topic in General Car Chat
ditto, my sentiments exactly -
decisions, decisions, these sound like they're a needed mod, but it's the valver's box that needs some tlc while the vr's is still sweet - maybe I should just get 2?
-
hunting for 288s Nick?
-
Another welcome. Shame about the fire, can't think how I'd feel if that happened to mine. Good luck finding a new one, but don't suppose there are many of them in Russia are there.
-
luck with the search, eyes are open for you down here
-
S**T! Only just seen this Can only repeat - gutted for you and hope you are fully OK.
-
Yes, you CANNOT fit the new ones without it; as NickVR6 said the old ones are usually so stuffed that you'll have to cut them out anyway. Can't remember the part number at the mo but it is v expensive (well, my dealer told me the new one they bought to do mine cost around £300) I took mine off the car and down to the dealer's to press the new ones in. John Mitchell has one too and was very accommodating when we were having fun doing Nick's  PS We did a KB article on it

I am getting this too, it is a build up of crud on the egdes of the rear pads. Whip em out and clean them and all will be well. Unfortunately, in the current weather conditions they soon get gunged again and the noise will reappear.
-
Maybe it should be in Stealth RR and perhaps you could bring it for the BBQ?
-
There will be a 'softer' feel with the engine running because of the vacuum assist. The question is, whether the pedal travel is excessive - ie greater than the designed limits. Have you checked to make sure you have not introduced air into the master cyl? This is possible and there is a bleed nipple on some of them to get rid of it

My handbooks list following: 16v 1427 front 1433 rear G60 1433 front 1433 rear VR6 1450 front 1432 rear Note: Deviations are possible depending on model version and wheels fitted

shouldn't be heavy could be old fluid, master or slave seal leaks, but more likely general wear in the clutch itself - springs/fingers etc

Both rear wheel bearings of gone MORE HELP NEEDED!

AND you need to get the carriers off to remove the disc. They have 4 recessed hex head bolts so you will need a spline drive on a socket T bar to get them out; 8mm IIRC. Actually I would buy some new ones to put back in as they are prone to damage when you (or previous owner/garage) take em off -
Can't see how you'd successfully change fronts yourself unless you have the proper pressing equipment. If you've done it any other way then I'd guess they aren't in true and may account for what sounds like their failure.
-
Wouldn't describe it as screeching quite but yes, it's a build up of (wet) brake dust on the edges of the pads. Clean it it will be fine for a few days, then it'll start again.
-
these may help 004 and 008 you can see the clutch slave cyl atop the gearbox 257 you can see the brake master cyl next tot he suspension tower; the clutch master is just alongside and slightly lower on the bulkhead on the passenger side, it shares the master cylinder fluid reservoir.

RW1 (I pretty sure) posted how this should be set up. Needs pressure measuring equipment so not quite average diy task. Can't remember the tread title but you could always try a pm
-
and 10/10 for owning up, I know loadsa people who'd of fudged that :)
-
selbekk by spending lots of money at vag lol - see the KB on chains (note: am doing a bit of editing as odd pix missing & layout has gone a bit wonky) RBsorry mate, but not so expensive if you diy, it's not hard, ditto above
-
speaking unasked on his behalf as I know that bigpants baby has one, if not more, vr6 engines
-
It's no consolation but you are right about the obstructions Roger. I'd recommend stripping the front off, and the rad, so you can get at the things properly. It'll only become a crisis trying to get in there if you don't. The Waterpipe is 021121050C £14.51 The O Rings are N10139201 £1.49 ea (need 2)
-
If you get desperate, I've kept got my oe springs when I put the H&Rs on. Can't see I'll need em again, but they may be a little 'tired' being circa '90 Let me know if you want em

Yep, RW1 has posted the definitive bleeding routines quite a number of times.....
