Hey thats really great Nick. Good bunch of guys you're with there that they'd take trouble to do something meaningful for you. So often you come away with what feels, sadly, like a token gesture. Got to see the shirt next time you're over this way.

I got a genuine hazet T10029 from the dealers for £19.74. So £20 is an OK price.

Oh dear. Sorry to see that Daz. Still, an object lesson to anyone out there who keeps putting this job, a new belt that is, off. -
You could try disconnecting the cables (in case its them jammed) and see if you can disengage the gear by hand. Worth a go.

He's probably jealous, though not with out good reason. Jim, BRAW. Just loved that (in the sense that you meant it). -
Sounds like the return spring on the pedal, sometimes they make a noise like you describe. Worth a look

With the conditions as you describe I have two thoughts. It is very easy to twitch the wheel (unknowingly) when the other guy surprises you, and combined with heavy braking this can produce unexpected results, ie 'opposite spin'. You say you have an ABS problem (and we don't know which corner) so, without getting in to a discussion about how much steering control it actually gives you when braking hard (one of its selling points in the adverts), I would have to point to that being the most likely cause. I would definitely get the system checked out rapido. Glad you are OK.

Extending locking pulse - factory-fit Scorpion alarm

Couldn't say as you don't mention which one is fitted, but probably wouldn't know anyway unless it's the one I've got fitted LOL. Try calling them, they are very helpful. 01257249928 -
Yep, got the oe bits so no probs there. A thinnish one? At 32 mm they don't come small, at least the one I bought recently isn't. Anyway, it's having the space to rotate it is the real problem. Laters

I wouldn't think so. I had various dings taken out in 2003, at CCGB Nat Day and Inters, and no sign of any problems. Several were on the swage line and removed no trouble.

Steve :notworthy: Am doing that job on the 16v this w/e. It really didn't look possible to get a spanner in there with it in situ, but will report findings idc.

[No Longer] Stuck in Wiltshire [Crank Sprocket Sheared]

That sounds very likely Gav. Damn. Now I wish we had bothered to take the wheelarch shroud out and turned the engine with the pulley bolt, and stuff a screwy down No1 cyl, instead of just thinking about it! Might have spotted something amiss with it if we had. Carl, have you checked yet to see if Dave's Mum is available for this task? Glad you got home OK. Keep us posted on developments. -
I know it's just been MOT'd, but how thin are your pads? If they are well down then you may have a piston seal hanging up on the outer end of the caliper pot and not returning properly, as there can be some corrosion there.
-
As Steve says, you can replace the gaiter with the rack in situ, but you will have to remove it from the car if you want to replace the whole trackrod.
-
It sounds as if its OK as the lamp initially flashes and then goes out. Other than vagcom checking, the easy way to test it is drive the car and brake hard. If the wheels lock up then it's not working.

Oh man, sorry to hear that m8 Chin up, don't sell the 'rado, something always turns up for deserving folks who look for it. Dad's advice II
-
Yep, that was Petter Solberg having the 'moment',
-
Chris comes to the rescue again. As I suspected, a simple five minute job suitable for the 'single spanner mechanic'

Sounds about right Gav :) I think that the compensator should sit at a particular angle to the horizontal (or vertical if you prefer), but I don't know the angle or where the datum line is. Sure someone will look it up though.
