Ah yes, I remember it so well :censored:

Marcus, as the boys have said above, I have PIs on both the VR and 1.8 Valver, both with the Koni T/A shocks. The VR ride is awesome, the valver not quite as good but still tons better than eibach, H&R, and a couple of other unknown brands that I tried along the way. Actually, I just reset the Valver's front shocks a bit softer (well fully soft actually) today now the set up has had time to bed in and the ride is much more giving than before. Should also mention that this one also has the later VR style "plus suspension" mounts and caps which are far superior to the old Valver style parts. So I am well happy with them both. Timmy, I am disappointed that I can't benefit from your kind offer on a purchase, but if my comments above raise some interest what % do I get   PS Also, born and raised in Dorchester and down from time to time as sisters still live there!

Jim, yep I shall be at the Coombe all day. You coming down?
-
from what you said before and here, sounds like the local garage might be far more cost effective for bearing change etc?
-
So what was wrong with your brakes then Eric, or did I miss that somewhere?
-
very neat, am liking that
-
Hi Jim, sorry to hear (sic) that. As always, could be any of above, and it's always tricky to tell just by listening which bearing might be the culprit. But for the clunk I'd deffo check the subframe bolts are at the correct torque setting - they might be 'tight' but I can tell you that the frame can move/creak if they are not right. And check eng mts too. Just had my vr mot (breezed it) and had them check my suspect bearing; found it was slightly loose so re-torqued it and all is fine again (saved me some loot). Any front end work been done on yours recently, might be something worked loose as opposed to failing.

Henny, you beat me to it... perhaps we need a "forum fighting fund" to save any Cs we find like this?
-
+1 still only 3% but still early tho'
-
Ouch! Just goes to show it doesn't matter how in control you are you get taken out by the other guy

See, we old dad's really are useful to have around
-
Ross, sorry mate I missed the fact that you only had the oe size nuts but saw Nick yesterday so know you have the right ones now. Is it all fitted OK now?
-
Whatho chap. Is that Nick's old set up by any chance LOL The top threaded part of the Koni shock has a slightly larger diameter than the oe one. Just drill out the fittings to the req size (can't recall exactly but about 12mm I think) and fit as normal HTH

The ball joint mounting on the hub is not a full cylinder, i.e. it has an 'open groove' into which you can insert screwdriver/coldchisel to open the housing slightly. Then you can gently tap the ball joint pillar up into position. Then pull the bottom of the hub out to give clearance to fit the little bracket to the wisbone. HTH

Hi Kev, glad I saw this. Though my 16V steering is far better now with new tyres (everything else has already been done) I still feel it has a bit of slack in there somewhere so looks like she'll be getting a new rack UJ pretty soon Anyone know the part number for a 1990 1.8 16V offhand?
-
Good work there Dave. Be interested to see how the colour comes out, see you Sunday at Stonor I expect
-
Not quite, you will have to remove the caliper carriers before you can remove the discs. They're held on with two hex head bolts, 18mm or 19mm (they changed sizes somewhere along the way); torque to 125Nm (92lb ft). Torque figure for the caliper bolts is 35Nm (26lb ft) HTH

Yep, signed last time round

Ah that's good news. Maybe me/Yan/Bas can fetch her down here so you won't have so far to go, tee hee. And we can rag the a**e off her for a few days to check her out for you
-
Aaagggghhhrrrrr. Ditto above, feel for you mate. Had my valver done twice too. Good thing though looks like the door and trim is undamaged.

Sorry, OT, but  Damn, how soon are they phasing that out? You saying I'm old? :x Seriously though, this is a difficult question so right off I'll say I have no answers to offer. Just a couple of thoughts. True that in the past the club/other owner/magazine scene was essential if you wanted to know what was going on or how to do something, and now most of that is available at our fingertips on line. I was delighted when I found the CCGB and joined up straight away, and fired off lots of techy questions all of which received specific detailed answers and advice (thanks Chris); each copy of the Sprinter was eagerly devoured (A4 sheets in those days), and yes I too admit to having good intentions for submitting articles but never doing so; shame on me! Neither did I get much involved in the meets early on but did enjoy the ones I went to and have met a lot of great people. Then I found the CF (maybe even a link from the then CCGB site?) and joined here too. Loved it, being able to talk about C things daily, and I was on here all the time. Confess to being a bit intermittent at the moment, and tend to favour the mech side of things (eng/drive train etc) mostly; again lots of good info but also, alas, (my opinion here) some not so good - so, to misquote, caveat emptor, and lots of OT. And again I have met more great folks via here too. So what am I trying so say? Both work for me. And many thanks to the people who've made it all happen (it's always more than meets the eye). So if a way can be found to bring any of the parts together then I think that can only be good news for our common interest - the C. Like I said above, I don't claim to know the answers, and Dinkus may be right that it might be a political non starter. But apart from being an idle, physically knackered old fart. probably still living in the past (Led Zeppelin are still just the best ever), I have no excuse for not standing up and being counted, so if anyone is counting......I'm up for trying to help out. As to where to start, clearly the poll is the first thing to confirm whether 'the people' want it (reassuring hand gesture, ingratiating smile, we are listening). Then, of course, the devil will be in the detail. Not quite as brief as intended
-
what chance that's a recall
-
I sit corrected, though considering the trouble we had pulling them in squarely with the proper tool I'm surprised you managed it. Top marks to you for perseverance.

Nice one guys, nice to see a bit of enterprise. I'll have a look tomorrow when I'm home

where's my bl**dy builder! will probably do an 'extending my garage' thread when he eventually turns up so mine swap round week by weekish between the garage and the car park at work
