  2. Good looking dark blue 16v parked in Monmouth Road, Dorchester (Dorset) this morning. Anyone?
  3. Nice one Eric, glad you got there in the end. Is it me? I downloaded the emotions link above and only got a soundtrack :?

Don't think so dr_mat as I recall going through all that when I read the thread. (Incidentally, I've had my batt dissed loads of times and never had any problems with my ecu settings) I'm pretty sure the thread was exploring the various things that would affect fuel/air settings (ge maf, throttle pot etc, etc) when you're at that funny throttle on/off point. Got it in my mind we never really bottomed this one out.
  5. As I'm soon about to put some 288s on the VR (and put the VR 280s on the 16V) I can tell you that the VR and G60 share common carriers and calipers (280). But the 288 carriers and calipers are different both in overall size and offset to the 280s, plus the way the caliper mounts on the carrier is quite different so you need to change them as a set. But the 288 carriers bolt straight on to the hub as those mounting points are identical. HTH
  6. Walesy Haven't you got any work to do

This no real help but - I think I recognise what you are trying to describe arlandy, mine sometimes feels a bit hicuppy when the throttle is just at the opening/closing point in traffic. Think there was a thread about this some while ago and the concensus was along the lines of the eng management being slightly confused as to whether it should slow down or speed up. Decided mine wasn't severe enough to worry about, but might try and find that thread again out of interest - anyone recall it's title?
  8. Bet you a quid it will be the heater feed hose from the top rear of the engine, it's a common failure and difficult to see when it leaks. Part no is 1H0121157H, costs about £32
  9. As mrbeige says, wondering what you've 'popped'? The VR6 arb has drop links where it attaches to the wishbones, and take some breaking though not unknown, and held on by a single nut underneath. Then there are two rubber bushes clamping the arb on top of the subframe 'rear legs'. To change these, relatively easily, you need to loosen (or take out) the 4 rear subframe bolts (two each side), and loosen the two front bolts, don't take em right out though, into the suspension towers so you can tilt the usbframe down at the rear. Then you can remove the clamp bolts and change the rubbers. They can be a bit of a swine, and is much easier on a ramp if you have one. Obviously, disturbing the subframe may upset the front alignment slightly so you might want to have that rechecked afterwards. I've probably got some pix somewhere but hth
  10. Well, tbh, I thought you would have. Glad you've found somewhere that'll fix them though
  11. Ah, now you mention it G60ING, I do sometimes get a bit of belt squeal on full r/h lock so perhaps I'll have a shufti and tweak it up a bit
  12. As the fuse blows while the car is being driven I'd be more inclined to think you have a problem with the fuel pump circuit (or anything else on that fuse). The starter problem sounds a usual valver snag, I've known it several times, especially with non vag replacement units, and treat it as separate problem as the starter supply wiring is quite separate to the fuel delivery system. Anyway, I'd have a look under the car and check the pump wiring hasn't been damaged, and also meter the current being drawn for starters (sorry, no pun intended), either at the pump or at the fusebox.
  13. The alternator has two bolts, fitted outside in, that screw into the mounting bracket. Sounds like it's broken right near the head so the alt is still supported by the rest of the bolt. To get it out you may need to remove the alternator mounting bracket from the engine, remove the other bolt then you may get enough play between alt and bracket to hacksaw what's left of the bolt and can then separate the alt from the bracket. Then probably drill the remains out, if you're careful you might not damage the thread but otherwise may need to run a tap through there. VAG sell bolts Sould be ok to drive, but makes sense not to cane it till it's fixed hth

You may be right there triggermyson, I was toying with doing it at home but then opted for the workshop where I work (lucky). Not impossible at home, but much better to have a bit of room if you can
  15. Storm2 , How odd, but then nothing should surprise me with a C anymore. Glad she's fixed tho'. Whereabouts you at?, I've siblings in Dorch and Crossways (well, when moved from Weymouth in Feb)

unless it's totally seized like NickVR6's was then it's a whole different ball game - don't forget this is a C we're talking about here
  17. lucky sod they had one on itv this morning as a link to what to spend the euro jackpot on, tho' bet you still couldn't get one cos they'll all be spoken for
  18. As you say Steve, it's really weird. As you would imagine there is real resistance to wheel movement initially but after a couple of times 'leaning' left the resistance suddenly releases and everything is fine. And can't see how it could be a fluid blockage as left is always ok. Just another quirk of the C that makes her so lovable :)
  19. Interesting. vag changed mine last time, and replaced the pulley, since when she often makes a strange kind of rattly noise whilst warming up. took her back at the time but was told everything was fine. She still does it now, but I've kind of gotten used to it so can't be bothered to investigate it
  20. Definitely interested in this. If I get one then I'll have a full set :)
  21. Walesy - Bummer though, that would have been a good crack. But you're obviously famous Eric to have been asked.
  22. Just out of interest, nine times out of ten on start up my valver has no right power assistance, but left is always ok. After applying left/right pressure a few times before moving off the right side then 'frees up' and works normally. Been doing this for so long I'm kind of used to it but wondered if anyone else experiences this anomaly?
  23. Hi Eric, a bit surprised you didn't try asking the boys in Germany (or did you?) about this as suspect loads of them must have same set up.
