New Scirocco Van spotted at the Ring...
Supercharged replied to Supercharged's topic in General Car Chat
Not really - Just the Corrado Estate... -
1001 - carpet cleaner (yellow bottle)
-
It's the camshaft position sensor but if it's that low on power then it would be completley dead and show up on VAGCOM... I'd see how the new MAF goes first and go from there...
-
Mate of mine just returned in his MX5 but saw this while over there -
-
Hard to say actually but mine gets to around 90ish, same as the water but then I have a mocal cooler and Schrick sump... as soon as you start driving it will go up and under normal conditions hit around 98-102, after driving fast is easily climbs to 110-116 but always comes down quickly again at idle to around the 100 mark.

Sonic - is that one of the new face lift ones? If so does it come with black headlining? My mate also saw a Scirocco van at the ring - will put pics up in a separate thread.
-
That's exactly the power you'd expect from a car with a Cam sensor (G40) down - did they not do a diagnostic check? I would bin the K&N before fitting the new MAF too.
-
I'd replace the FP and ECU relays plus the ignition switch if they have not been changed in the last 5 years.

Has anyone else led underneath their car while running?
Supercharged replied to Toad's topic in Engine Bay
What does led mean? You need a stethoscope really mate to diagnose where noises are coming from. -
80 or 167 is the fuel pump relay but it won't be that.... It could just be knackered but running below the red-line makes them overheat and get noisey... could also be a clogged mesh at the bottom of the pump...
-
No - I mean pliers round the base of the splined adapter - then the puller on the pliers (hopefully that makes sense) You really need a really good puller - the one VW use is 3-legged but with another bit you tighten up to keep it square.
-
Would a dodgy brake comp. cause increased brake travel?
Supercharged replied to kvwloon's topic in Drivetrain
You can just bleed with someone holding the comp valve or cable tie it - should need hardly any pressure at all to move it... Let me know if you want a new Master Cylinder - I have a brand new VAG one if needed. -
You need a good puller but you can also use a pair of pliers round the base to get better grip.
-
Yeah it does just slide off but you need to get that splined adapter off first - Needs a good 3 legged puller

As above - a good machine polish with 3M Fast Cut Plus or similar might bring it up like new...

Always thought highly of the Ipswich branch of Kwik Fit as I used to take company lease cars to them in my old job for tyres / tracking etc and also had punctures repaired for free (with voucher) before and they always seem very competent and clued up. Hadn't been there for a while but my mates 03 plate MK4 seemed to have a sticking / binding rear caliper despite just being serviced by VW and having only covered 22k miles, We kind of knew which wheel it was but thought it was worth getting it diagnosed and confirmed for free so told my mate to put it in for a free brake check... Booked in and turned up a bit early, they said it would be 20 mins or before he ramp was free so so we went to get some food, came back and it was on the ramp and the guy was just about to take the caliper off on that side so we went to have a word with him about it - he explained what we suspected and said he'd take it off, clean the sliders and regrease and also wind the piston back on the caliper and re-adjust - I was impressed as this is exactly what I'd do before replacing the caliper which he said might be the only way to resolve it which I agree'd as most MK4 have been thruu at least one rear caliper now! So we watched him thoroughly clean and check everything, windback and self adjust, wheel seemed to spin fine so he took it for a testdrive and then put back on the ramp to check again, seemed fine and said we'd just have to see how it went... Now the original check took 30 mins and then he spent another 30 mins on that wheel which we assumed would cost £20 - £30 quid which I'd be more than happy with... went into the office and they said 'no charge' - WTF!?! How do they make money? maybe from lease deals and other parts / tyres maybe? Anyway, very impressed with the service and would deffo recommend to others!

I thought you usually got the bolts with the stand...? Karl - I may be interested in the stand mate - is it a machine mart jobbie?

£44 + vat retail and £28 trade (Used to be £19 + vat!) Loads of people with 20VT's and TDIs have also had problems with metal replacement pumps, the original VW ones were problematic but they have been thru a couple of revisions now and seem reliable.
-
I think you can do it without but it's very awkward unless you have the front off the car so gasket set would be a good idea! Make sure you get some new bolts too
-
Don't drive it - doesn't take much to overheat and write off a VR engine! Make sure you fit a genuine VAG pump - GSF ones may have a metal impeller (not good!)
-
Yeah your right, just had a look at my spare barrel... You need the barrel part itself which comes with 2 new keys, unfortunately it's the only lock on the car that can't be re-tumbled so ideally you need to tumble the other locks to the new keys. You get the old one out by drilling a hole in the lock housing - Bentley shows how / where to do this.
-
Hmmm - I thought it was the end of the key that turned the switch?
-
Good pics... Thats a bit of a git about the wings though - as said above they have not been prepped at all properly, should also be sealed to the car so usually take a bit of work to get off. That looks like it was a VW approved body shop too by the parts sticker so that's a particularly poor show - maybe find which dealer it was and send the Toad in for test drives?
