  1. The auto-locking of the doors can be disabled in the menus. It's a sort of anti-hijack thingy - but it can be a pain in the arse. Depends where you live though. Alot of car-jackings in Coventry? Have fun using the menu! Hehe. I would disable auto-arming of the alarm - just have the immobiliser to auto-arm. Mine was wired up so when I press the headlights button on the remote - the doors lock, but the alarm doesn't come on (just the immobiliser after 30 seconds). Handy for when I'm at the gf's and the cat insists on walking under the car and setting it off.

Did you know the front wiper is quite intelligent though? It has a variable intermittant... Say its raining lightly. You need to clear the windscreen, so flick the stalk down to intermittant, then back up to off. Next time you need to clear the windscreen, click down to Intermittant and leave it there. The delay in between you clicking it down is set, and will stay like that. It can be set to anything between 2 seconds to 30ish. Go and have a play... you know you want to!! :D

The MPG is showing the average for the trip - so if you do boot it hard after driving normally for a while - it won't affect the average much. You could always reset the MFA (hold the slider left to '0') then keep booting it and see if you mpg drops to about 10 - mine does frequently... hehe. The rear wiper works by pressing the wiper stalk back once, and the rear wiper is on intermittantly. Press it again, and you turn it off again. As for the water - it squirts when you press it back - so yes, it does squrt water when you turn it on - but if you press it quick enough, none should come out. Slightly daft design there, VW.... Just drive fast enough so you don't need to look out the rear window... works for me :)

    Front Spoiler

Just ask about the 50mm spoiler rather than the 90mm one. They are inter-changeable. I'm sure GPC is cheaper than VW though... £30 for the 50mm one.

Maybe if you advertise your aftermarket spoiler for sale in exchange for an original 50mm one? Parts For Sale Section
  6. You can use your account on more than one PC, m8......
  7. chris, there's a "lost your password?" button where you login... click that and you can retreive your old account.
  8. There's always Elite in Rainham. £50+VAT for a full laser-alighnment. And they do a grand job. Nice peeps, and they ask you how you want the car to handle too. "Economical" or "Grippy-as-frenchconnectionuk" ;) Don't live in Essex anymore - but when I did I always used to get my MX5 done there. http://www.elite-design.co.uk/

    Z-Rated Rubber

I wouldn't use the speed rating as a rating for the quality of handling for the tyre. Yes, Z-ratings will hold together going at 190mph - but that doesn't mean they'll grip any better at 60mph going round a corner in the wet.
  10. Yeah, like when the car died a couple of months ago for no reason, whilst braking and about to do a 90 degree turn accross a road. Not fun when the car fights you back and your brakes go too. Never stalled since though

    INTAKE!

Maybe you should put your location in your profile then ;)
  12. I can agree with Adrian Flux. I'm 22 with 6 points for speeding and 3yrs NCD. £1111 fully comp. with all mods declared and £300xs. :D (and thats on a VR6...)
  13. Zoomed in and sharpened a little...
  14. Yup  Changing the tyres shouldn't affect your alignment as long as the wheels are balanced properly when the tyres are changed.
  15. Yup. You'll also find the car loves a good motorway run. Many cars get bogged down and slow when driven sedately for a long time. After a good thrash along a motorway, the car livens up, blasts away the cobwebs, and feels a lot more spritely. I just thrash mine all the time to make sure it doesn't drop from its peak ;)

    Tyres

Well, can't comment on others, but the Avons are still V-grooved like Toyo's etc, and the grip I find it impressive.. but then I can't compare to much :S I got 'em from http://www.topgear.co.uk - but just checking and they've gone up in price since! If you're gonna do it... go for the Pirellis. Just look better and more expensive than Yoko's ;) Or, borrow lots of space-saver wheels and run four of them until the Toyo's arrive. Slidey, slidey!

    MFA default

That'll be a faulty temp. sensor. I have the same - occasionally works when the engine bay is very hot - otherwise it just skips past it. Try cleaning your temp sensor (should be poking out of the lowest grill under the bumper, or the left hand side as you look at the front of the car) with some WD40 or something. Else its £60-odd to replace by VW. Personally, I'm not that bothered... ;)

NP Brian. And I'm currently running Avon ZZ1s - and am pleasantly suprised... Pity about the delay on the Toyo's. Do you really need new tyres for Inters? :D

dubster82 - please remember the Mods just try to keep posts that are relevant to each other so that in the future, new users browsing still find your post in a relevant section. Yes, some things are grey-areas, and this is one, as you pointed out - but there's no need to get shirty with Tom for doing his job. When a post is moved to a different section, the URL to that post remains the same - so any notification emails still point to the post, searching for new posts will still show it. Moving a post doesn't make it any harder to find - just more relevant and tidyier as the board fills up with pages and pages of posts. As for tyres.. You pretty much get what you pay for. Do you want to stick with 215s, or are you not that bothered? Toyo's in the 205s seem a great deal, as pointed out by Pau1 - can't really go wrong with them and always considered a damn good tyre - yeah, not the best of the best, but depends if you want to spend £120 more all round? Corrado's chew fronts up quite nicely, so 10k down the line you might be changing fronts anyway.

    Red tail lights

You can have the reverse lights tinted red - its just they have to shine white(ish) in order to pass - so a light dusting of red tint would be ok. And as for orange bulbs - the plastic is orange already don't forget - so making the bulbs orange wouldn't do anything - in fact they normally blink a bit darker orange - so with the tint spray would end up looking more red  Its a bit of test-and-see when you're doing the spraying, really.

    Red tail lights

Its not just the MoT too - you could receive an on-the-spot penalty if a very bored copper spots you too.
  22. Andi

    Red tail lights

julez If your indicators blink red, rather than amber, you will fail the MoT. And yes, Lanny, it is necessary to have a white reverse light as well as the amber indicators here, unlike the US. If you want to be very strict, it is actually illegal to remove the Hella and EC markings from the light too - but I doubt an MoT station would pick up on that.

    Sunroof parts

It doesn't bother me... I'm both! I'm either in Derby, or in London.. so, yeah, whatever! :) Sunroof meet sounds cool too - I'd love to do the "moonroof" conv.
  24. I got my car from a stealers for an excellent price..... wasn't VW though - was a Seat garage. So dealers aren't always eil  - you can find a bargain!
