  1. Procon 10 went out before production of the 80 stopped, the public seemingly preferred airbags and Procon 10 was incompatible with a drivers airbag as it pulled the wheel so far away from the driver that the airbag would have needed to be so big that the steering wheel boss would have been about 3 feet wide
  2. I wish my money could have stretched to an S2. Was at an Audi Driver magazine tracjk day a few weeks ago at Castle Combe and it did seem as if S and RS Audis were in much better conditon, I'm sure down to them being better looked after as opposed to being better built. I was genuinely shocked at how poor the condition of the cars I looked at were - the A6 I have ended up buying is in a totally different league
  3. Unfortuantely every dealing I have had with Fords legal team is as frustrating as knitting fog, decision by committee with no one prepared to stick their hand up - far easier to crush £xx million worth of stuff than risk their career
  4. Based on my recent experience of trying to buy one its because they have corrosion problem. Every single one I looked at had rot around the windscreen frame and most had at least two badly crumbling wheelarches. Ended up buying an A6 2.8 (30V) for even less money and in far better condition
  5. I agree - it was the same during the Mk6 Fiesta launch. They had 140 cars there for the duration of the event, all meticulously maintained and all did very little mileage - at the end of the event they were all transported back to Cologne and crushed. A couple of years prior to that at the Transit launch in Seville they gave the vehicles to local charities - they had a number of disputes with those organisations about things going wrong with them and the fact that they could not be re-sold - Ford vowed never to do it again
  6. Its like the 16 million Euros worth of damage inflicted on new Volkswagens waitng at the port in Germany earlier in the year due to a hailstorm, most of those cars were factory ordered as opposed to stock vehicles - I wonder how many people were told that their nice new car had already had bodywork / paint damage corrected. There was talk of them being repaired and sold as "damaged repaired" but I never saw anything happen, I do know that some cars were so badly damaged that they were scrapped
  7. To the buyers of various parts acquired from me in recent weeks - you know who you are - thanks for prompt payment and letting me know that everything arrived safely - never had a problem with any buyer from the Forum - its miles apart from anywhere else for the decency of its members
  8. I have a friend who is building a big arched Mk1 Escort with an Escort Cosworth engine and gearbox in it, He has acquired a rear axle that will be able to take the power he is looking for but it needs narrowing - does anyone know anyone / anywhere that may be able to take the job on for him, he's lucked out so far

  11. Just didn't have that "something" that you can't describe but you know when its missing - a sixth sense was telling me it just wasn't going to be a car I would keep. Already replaced with a big barge of an Audi A6 2.8SE (30 valve as opposed to the 12V) - manual (always my preference), full leather, climate etc etc, 15 Audi stamps in the service book with supporting invoices, 12 months MOT all for the princely sum of £1000 - all it needs is a couple of stone chips touching in and a simple alloy refurb that I can do myself. I'll definitely give it the full machine polish treatment etc though
  12. Weird I know but he insisted on paying me extra as I had told him about the couple of issues that the car had and got them sorted, all I did was keep my word, he obviously thought that was worthy of paying a little more money
  13. The old C Class coupe (not CLK) - the forerunner of the CLC was available with a 3.5 litre V6, thats been dropped now, biggest petrol engine is the 1.8 litre 200 Kompressor with just over 180bhp. Its not a nice car, despite being touted as a new car its anything but, just a facelifted C Class coupe with a nose and tail revamp and still based on the last generation C Class.
  14. Bought an Audi 80 Avant 2.6 Quattro last week, after the drive home (250 miles) decided it was not the car for me so re-advertised it immediately. Spent some time and money sorting out the few small problems with it but sold it at a break even price within 4 hours of it being advertised. New owner collected it tonight and insisted on paying me £50 more than the asking price - perhaps describing cars honestly does sometimes pay dividends
  15. The Passat CC is the car that the standard Passat should have been from day one - very stylish
  16. Fell prey to this last week. After the aborted purchase of an Audi Coupe (car was badly mis-described) I needed a car quite quickly and ended up buying an Audi 80 Quattro Avant. Flew up to Edinburgh last Wednesday to collect it and drove the 250+ miles home with no problems. Came to start it on Thursday morning and it would tuurn over but not start, looks like the crank sensor has given up the ghost, currently in my local workshop to be rectified. A sixth sense is telling me that this isn't the car for me so put it on E-Bay Thursday night and sold it with a Buy It Now price after two hours, will just about cover my costs and have at least described the car 100% honestly, that is all known issues (only a couple to be honest) declared. Nothing on the car is ringing alarm bells but I just do not feel comfortable with it.
  17. Depends on budget. I'm a great believer in bangernomics and enjoyed three low cost, reliable and confrtable motoring with a Passat V6, hoping to repeat it again having just bought an Audi A6 2.8, nigh on 200bhp, loads of space, full equipment (dual zone climnate control, cruise, ABS etc etc), full Audi service history, new MOT for the princely sum of £1100
  18. I think I deserve sympathy, god help Noah as at 2 years of age he is becoming as anal as I am, can already reecognise all Porsches, Mini, all Saabs, Honda Accords, Octavias (although he automatically calls these taxis) and of course Corrados
  19. Easy, its a Facel Vega - fabulous piece of French over -engineering (when did you last here that). Had a push button gearbox that gave endless troubles, engines were Chrysler V8's. Later produced a four door version called the Excellence and then the gorgeous little Facelia with a home grown twin cam inline 4 that ulimately bankruted the company due to its unreliability, last models had a Volvo engine slotted in
  20. Personally I would prefer to buy from an active forum member, currently thats top money for a Storm
  21. I ran a Passat V6 Syncro (so identical drivetrain) for three years, taking the mileage from 90k to 150k. In all the time I ran it I experienced no issues at all, I did change the oil and filters at 6,000 mile intervals at most but engine appeared to be smoother at 150k than it was at 90k. A decent history is all that I would specifically look for but I'm sure others will add to the list
  22. This has now got to be considered one of the best Corrados in the world - awesome
