  1. Think I may have 3 possible leaks!! Oil, Water and PS fluid....I know these things come in threes but why all at once!!!! In the pic below there is spot of oil about to drip off the filter, does the filter just need tightening up? Also there is a drop of fluid on the bolt of the water pump that goes on the block, where has this water come from? Also the PS pipe running along the cross member has some kind of oil on it? also it sags in the middle, ios this right? either end of the pipe are clean with no visible PS fluid run marks.
  2. Cover battery, alram, anyting with alot of wires!!!! Also if using pressure wash don't go in too close! Make sure you regrease any bits after you done as well, think I did throttle cable, carb, g/box mech.
  3. Is there any costcos near you?? if so check it out. I have a valver, but was strill getting quoted £60+ for halfords own, never mind bosch!!! I got my bosch silver top from costco in the end, for £35 all in inc fitting and disposing of the old one!!! I was truly shocked at there prices!!!!
  4. Hi mate, Currently have a 16v, have owned a V6 engined car in the past. All depends what your needs are? From my expeience most things on the valver can be DIY, and seem to be relativeley inexpensive. Where as V6 is physically harder to work on as there is less room in the bay, also parts seem to be more pricey as well. However there is a lot more driving satisfaction with the V6, as the 16v cannot compete with the torque and its silky smooth delivery. Must admit there seems to be a real glut of VR6s lately at very favourable prices though
  5. swarfega jizer (spelling?) spray and wash or swarfega heavy duty degreaser for pressure washers.......all good
  6. lookin very 8) Like the headlight mods...must get round to doing that sometime over winter! Get the grill colour coded if you can, makes it look that little bit cleaner!
  7. Don't think anyone would advise you on how long you should drive it. Learned from past experince, if you know somethings not right get it fixed ASAP else it always leads on to something more expensive getting knackered
  8. Think your right Merc SL switches are on the side of the seat, but actually on the side facing the door card, so they are vertically mounted...if that makes sense. My uncle has one I can will have a look and report back!
  9. What mileage has your motor done? You can check the bearing by jacking the car up, and then check the wheel for play. I would always to get both sides done. Also stick to OEM bearings
  10. Guess would be that it is your CV joint as it only occurs when turning the wheel, does it get worse the harder you turn right? Whta mileage has your motor done?
  11. dunno about seats....switches look like an aftermarket job though.
  12. Tell me about it :( thats why have been sat at home for 3 months...well at least I get to do some work on my Rado
  13. ust in case you do ever need to get in touch with Saab customer service....the call is taken by exactly the same people who take the calls for Vauxhalls at Luton......well until there are jobs are outsourced abroad later next year
  14. This is the painstaking way, easier than retapping though. Soak the remainder of the screw in WD-40, get some decent HSS drill bits, start with a very small bit and drill into the screw. A decent bit will drill into it easy, just go at it slowly and keep the bit in the centre of the screw so as not to damage any of the threads. If you have any luck, just drilling a hole through it should work it loose and it should come with the movement of the drill bit. If not keep going up drill bit sizes and keep taking off more layers of the screw, sooner or later it will give!
  15. Go for the Alfa, SAAB is a vauxhall in disguise! (same dodgey parts!)
  16. Just wondered if any of you fellas had any recommendations as there is too much choice!!! Or if there are any companys to avoid! Cheers!
  17. Just guessing...but could the cause be a leaky vacum pipe connection to the door lock?
  18. Thats p**s poor, I had mine next day from VW Wayside in MK. Suppose you could try ebay, there are some rads on there that seem to have the right amount of cooling tubes.
  19. Hi Bally, I had a similar prob on my escort, in the end I replaced the stalks, this did not solve the prob, in the end it turned out to be the fusebox, the soldering within it had come loose and was causing all kinds of probs. This is a common prob on escorts though. Probably best (cheaper) to try stalk first though! Defo worth getting an autoelctrcian to check it over if you have no joy though.
  20. MMmmm..nice n shiny  nice motor welcome!
  21. Feel gutted for you mate... :( ....someone 'manged' to scratch my wing and door (on opposite sides!) this weekend. That will teach for me only driving it once a month and trying to avoid parking in dodgey places!!! what can you do?
  22. Damn!!! Those pics are shocking   Fancy driving that about all those years, talk about playing with a loaded gun!! This is exactly why you should always assume the worst when buying a car. Surprised it had only 2 owners though!
  23. Hi Mate, glad you got a geniune vw item, there is a big difference, gsf and ecp ones do only have half the cooloing tubes, there is pratcally no weight to them as well. Like Dave said the non vw one will do the job, but it will not have the same amount of redundancy. My temp normally struggles to get over 100c and only gets to about 108 to 110 when stuck in traffic in summer. also worth checking hoses as they go brittle, i replaced both main rad ones, the one to the resvior and the one from the pump to the oil cooler/heater. also forgot to mention use only g12+ I mixed this with deionsed water I bought from halfords for a few quid. Also once rad is in, before connecting the top hose, fill the sytem from the top hose, the top up from resvior, make sure you get a good few litres in there before running.
  24. Thanks for your replies, some food for thought!! Sorry I am being hush hush about my mods, just not sure they are going to go ahead (due to time, money and baby!) Basically I wanted to turbo my valver or get 20v turbo lump, do 20v turbo cars have lift pump and under car pump as well? Cheers
