That looks ace - would that switch gear be the same as the Golf one that bigpants baby is selling on?? What would you say was the hardest part of the install? I mean electrically or actual instalation of parts etc, where abouts is the evap mounted, is it under the dash beneath the glove box??

Sounds like a great plan, the only thing id imagine that to get a MK1 that would be worth bothering with over a long period will not be cheap.. They are just about extinct apart from solid ones which seem to fetch reasonable prices, id say in comparison to a MK2 as there are loads of them about it copuld be a more expensive option... Having said that you could land an absolute bargain... My personal advice would be to buy something non VAG that you wont want to fiddle with while you finish your studies off and the when its all finished start spending your hard earned cash....

Ive only been take out in one as my brother in law had a 5.0 v8 one before getting a Tuscan... Performance = massive, it was a monster and the fun factor was huge.....

Those early grills arent very nice though, id update that but otherwise id agree, i do like the early bonnets......

The existing AC rad (condensor) on mine is huge as well but is mounted on the outside of the existing one so its hidden in the bumper, modern day ones are about 30cm x 30cm though so would defnitely fancy that.... Hang on a minute, im talking myself ionto a climatronic install here, what am i doing!!!!!! If i do take this on i may be pestering you alot Tony, what switches have you got in yours???? My system does run the later R134a refrigerant....

Just remove the 4 bolts that support the motor and rotate it until it comes free, it will take a bit of twiddling to get it out. Remeber to disconnect the water pipe and cable tie it to prevent any water getting in the boot...

Were you replacing an existing AC system tonedef or starting from scratch?? Mice already has AC but would like to modernise it as it is atad on the unreliable side...

Id be testing them first to see whether they are needed..

You should have speed 1 about 95ish, speed 2 at just over 100 and th third should kick in at 112... The thermoswitch in the radiator is about 20 quid from the dealers but you can test to see if that is the problem.. If youve lost the fans then it could be the motor on the fan itself, thats what happened to mine and i still got speed 3....

I dont blame you for keeping the car but i think id be wanting to put something a little different in.. 1.8t or 24v or such alike... The 1.8t is meant to be a straightforward job....

Theres a guy on here who is in the process of doing this... I think his name is Quicky1980 or something close to that - id try and get in touch with him for some good advice....
