  1. We have enough material to stock an art gallery now... and all so tasteful
  2. IIRC drove just over 120K in my old valver - less a handful of miles when I let the missus have a go.
  3. I've driven c150,000 miles in various Corrados over the last 11 years - does that count? - anyone driven more? 82K on the clock with current one so technically no twix
  4. Agree about the time and money comment but I think its a bit presumptive to infer that anybody who spends £1,000s on their car does so just because they want other people to like them. I suspect the majority got their Corrados because they either liked the performance or looks or cache of driving something a bit different or any combination thereof. I don't have any issues with people wanting to get their cars up to show condition or carry out project work whether that be cosmetic or technical. I actually like a bit of both (oooer!) and have probably spent the majority of my £s on performance but so what? Both routes show dedication and commitment and thats a good thing in life because it brings pleasure and advancement. In truth there is probably a part of all of us that wants to be liked by others and have their approval and we all go about getting it in different ways. In this context alone I don't think there is any real difference between spending £200 on a bit of bling or £200 on a piece of kit. My killer question is how many of us are so unaffected by what others think that we choose goods and services purely for their functionality? Its been said before but what a boring world it would be if we all thought the same. The strength of this forum IMO is that we have all sorts who can happily co-exist for 99.9% of the time and for those of us with a foot in both camps :camp: its the best single source of advice and inspiration.
  5. Looking good Michael and welcome back. You've brought good weather with you cos its been s*@% all summer and one of the reasons I finally got around to making space in my garage for mine this year. On the look out for a fleecey car cover now to avoid dusting duties! Love ya old man's motor Hope to catch ya at some shows next year.

    roof rail/trim

Got mine from an e bay seller (les bray?) around £80 last year. They were genuine VAG issue (not that I know of anybody making copies!) They do seem better made than the originals but I'll confirm that in 2019
  7. Damn that's bad luck Judith. You seem very stoical about it though. Could have happened to any of us.
  8. Thanks for that chaps. Kip - will try the airflow charger - noticed Judith had recommended it elsewhere. I think giving up the Corrado as a daily driver probably ranks with stopping smoking - anybody know if you can get a Corrado patch or chewing gum  Lovely sunny day today so the C will be coming out to play :) After 3 days ownership I'm actually quite enjoying the Golf now - you have to drive it harder and concentrate on gear selection much more which is quite involving really. The Multi function display has a speed warning setting which annoyingly reminds you have exceeded the setting (someone had set it to 90mph) - this has now been turned off :nono: oh and the side mirror heaters work
  9. Yep the Storm is nicely tucked up in the garage (wanna keep her looking good ready for when you take her on  ) - bit of a tight fit and took ages to make sure everything was secured on the walls cos I was paranoid about the possibility of some of it falling down. Remains to be seen how often I get her out to play in the winter. Gonna get a trickle charger in any case but it may make more sense to just lay her up for the winters. Feel a little bit sad about not being able to use her every day - still could be worse I suppose  Puritan life it is as I also gave up smoking 8 weeks ago :? Hope all is well with the Rach and the little Charlie and lets catch up soon
  10. This arrived at lunchtime today with 9 miles (yes nine) on the clock: newgolf2.jpg[/attachment:m9kb66o1] 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfnewgolf1.jpg[/attachment:m9kb66o1] Golf 2.0 TDI Blue Motion DPF Quite obviously its not a Corrado VR6 but its not half bad really. Handling is much poorer and way less involving but performance is not as bad as I was expecting and it accelerates quite well once you get used to the gearing (even noticed a bit of a kick when booting it hard, turbo I guess). Lots of modern plastic everywhere (not just in the cabin) but some nice silver trim touches around the gearstick and instruments give it quite a classy feel. Cheap as chips to lease (through work) and ridiculous MPG returns. Took it for a short spin at lunchtime and doubled the mileage (was 9 now 18) and got a reported MPG of 57.4 on the return leg:shock: Even thrashing it really hard I could only get it down to 38. Plan is to semi retire the Storm and just use at weekends (dry ones only) and for shows and selected summer trips etc. Just could not envisage being able to continue doing 12,000+ miles a year and a) keep it in good nick and b) hang onto it for 15 or more years which is the ambition. Gonna miss driving it every day but needs must and the contrast might make me appreciate it a bit more.
  11. When stationary the manual over ride button also provides opportunities for non verbal communication with those behind
  12. Ah yes remember that. Thanks a lot Kip, I'll definitely be first in line and will pick your brains sometime about other tips for storage (sure I've seen the odd thread on it). PS. Glad to hear you got the old girl round the ring unscathed :)
  13. Now I'm garaging mine on a regular basis I wouldn't mind one of these but I don't think we have any Nettos down here?
  14. Can you feel the need for a double deck garage coming on  Nice find, if you could get some willing drivers you could get all 4 to the national day or maybe trailer them in
  15. Pleased you've got the new fleet sorted Andy - should make for a fun school run :norty: Looks like good value for money all round.
  16. Looking good Charlie. Be good to see this in the flesh at a local meet.
  17. Very impressive site :notworthy: What hidden talents we have amongst our number!
  18. Classic  You should send this directly to VB-H - it might just do the trick :norty: Failing that I'll make sure its read out at your wake :) I might not be there but my boys will.
  19. £275 - top value I think given the gains and the amount of time Vince spent developing the software.
  20. As the football manager said to the agent :norty: One of those sentences you've probably never said before
  21. Cheers Andy. Bit of time on my hands today so did a search and ordered some of these from Zerocool.
  22. Great shots. Excellent lighting - sales brochure quality.
  23. Ah yes, reminds me of the Besty quote: " I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered" So very true  Just the first and last for me these days :? Got there just before 9am and left at 4:30pm. They didn't seem in a rush at all and seemed happy for me and the boys to wander in and out of the workshop while it was being done. I was a bit nervous about what they might find when they cracked it open but it was fascinating to see the innards when the inlet manifold was off - comment from the mechanic was that it was very clean which was a relief. According to their records the car had been in a for a head gasket about 3 years ago - didn't need it but the owner had insisted as the car had been sat in the garage for a while and was blowing some white smoke on start up. Good to know it had a "money no object owner in the past". Do need a plug/lead removal tool though as some of the rubber sleeves were looking a bit ropey/split and needed taping up - not sure if that's my mechanic doing the damage or someone earlier  When we have another Bristol meet sorted you're welcome to drive it there Andy - keep your hand in so to speak. Any non car news? There was an an Audi Quattro S3 in for a revo (?) re-map. He ended up at about 330/340bhp I think and was a very happy bunny. They also had a Golf in having a Vortech supercharger fitted - tempting option but I'm happy for now and need to focus on brakes and exhaust as next upgrades.
