1. At least the Megane is an improvement on the bleedin Pigasso. That was like driving a blancmange while sitting on a high chair.
2. Well I have sadly had to come to the decision that I won’tbe getting another Corrado. After weighing up the cost of getting a reasonable one, the difficulty in getting parts (if available at all) and the cost of running it as a daily it is just not sensibly viable on a pension. While helping out a friend a few weeks ago I found a Karmann badge in a lock up which the owner was willing to sell. It was attached to a 2001 Renault Megane convertible which had been in there for a year. So for £100 purchase price, £60 for front discs and pads, £60 for two driveshafts (all available over the counter) and a brake pipe it got it’s MOT. 70,000 mileson the clock and currently getting about 35 - 40 mpg about town I can’t really complain. While an enjoyable drive I want a Corrado back!! Please nice Lottery people.
3. This came up in a conversation recently which began about the new road fund licence rules. The logic, or lack of it, ran something like this. All new MOT's are now instantly logged on a central computer so if your car passes it is shown as a pass and everything is hunky dory. If it fails it is logged as a failure and will be shown on the computer as a failure, therefore if it still had some of the previous MOT still to run this would be negated by the new one as your vehicle is now unfit for use and should not be used until it has been repaired. (Remember an MOT is only valid at the time of test.) Now that your car has been declare unfit your insurance will probably leap on the opportunity to declare your cover invalid as you are driving a car that you know is unfit for use. This does not take into account the 13 month MOT as no one was sober enough to think about it. It is basically working on the premise that if you are advertising your car as faulty by putting it on a central database that the police can check instantly. Whether you would be done for just the fault or additionally for having no MOT I do not have the faintest idea.
4. Get some Redex, start the car and get someone to hold a rag over the end of the exhaust and get some of the Redex into the induction. This will produce loads of white smoke that will show up any leaks in the exhaust. Last time I did it I undid a vacuum hose and allowed that to suck the Redex in. Be warned though, it does produce a lot of smoke. It won't harm the engine as it is an old fashioned cleaner/lubricant.
5. I had a similar problem which turned out to be the actuators in the door (Mine was the passenger side). Disconnected the plug and the drain stopped. Having it disconnected didn't seem to make any difference to the operation of the windows. Seemed to have happened with a few other people as well.
6. I got four, but they might not be the same thing. Mine were ales but I suspect yours may be Windows 10.
7. Before you remove the distributor make a reference mark across the distributer flange and the head where they join. This will allow you to replace the distributor exactly as it was before removal. I personally make it with a junior hacksaw as it gives clear edges to the mark.
8. The ones in pics 3 & 4 don't need to come out. It was a while ago that I did mine and I'm sue I removed three for the motor and the one at the top of the door. I don't have the car anymore (weeps quietly) so can't go out and check.
9. Unsure about manual windows as mine were electric. I remember there was one at the top of the vertical runner that the window runs up and down on. Accessed via a hole in the inner door skin.
10. No, just push it up in the runners and secure it there.
11. http://wiki.the-corrado.net/the_corrado_buying_guide_checklist.html Probably be of assistance. Good luck and welcome to the forum.
12. Once the door card, etc is out of the way lower the window till you have access to the rollers that run in the channel attached to the window glass. Pop the regulator arms from the rollers using a broad flat blade screwdriver on each side of it. Lift the window fully up and out of the way by hand and tape it securely in the up position. If the same as the electric widow the regulator is pop riveted to the door frame. Drill these out and lose skin wriggling the regulator out of the door. Replacement is the reverse except you pop in new rivets rather than drill them.
13. Bear in mind that although the rack mounting bolts may be tight the actual rubber rack bushes might be shot and allowing the rack to move.

Did a search around and found this. It's the yellow topped sensor in the middle of the pic.

I don't have the Corrado any more so can't get a pic for you, sorry. Hopefully someone will come along that can help.

VW Eos

Thanks guys for the comments. He's decided against the Eos. He has also decided against a Corrado, says he doesn't want to turn into his father, lying in the driveway most weekends all oily alternately cursing, weeping and cheering. Don't know where he got that idea.

There should be a sensor that looks like a brass nut attached to a metal plate fixed to the front valve cover bolt next to the timing belt cover. Hope that makes sense.

VW Eos

Just been looking at the links above and it does appear that the roof can be a major problem. Had a bit of a flashback moment to the C when someone complained about the headlights.

the son thing is contemplating buying an Eos. Anybody know anything about them? Good? Bad?
20. When I first moved into my current house there were mutterings about the car under repair on the driveway. I then changed the wiper blades for one of the neighbours and let it be knon that I was prepared to help with the odd little job. Sudden silence and everybody likes me.
21. I went to a windscreen place and asked one of the fitters. (Looked suitably sad and helpless) He did the whole thing and had to force him to accept a tip. Took about half an hours hanging about. No harm in trying.
22. Think I got mine from Eurocarparts. There should be a part number stamped on the flats of the sensor.
23. The first one looks like the fan run on sensor. It sits on a metal plate above the alternator

Seat backs loose

The plastic sliders on the rear of the seat that support it and move in the side runners wear and cause this. I think they are still available through Volkswagen.
25. The whole bleeding shebang is mad. Recently I had to renew my photo licence because the photo was ten years out of date. I could have went down the online/passport route and they would have quite happily used the 13 year old photo on that. Just to rub salt in the wound I have to replace the damn thing again in 18 months cos I'll be 70.
