hi m8 are you depressing the accelerator as you turn the ignition key? I ask as the manual says never to do such. I very rarely read manuals but for the VR I did & that part stuck in my mind lol reason being is that is can mess up the fueling & make it run not very well. it then takes a few minutes for the ECU to sort it out my VR has always started very well & virtually always goes 'tick, tick vroom' however the gf's storm can very often turn over quite a few times before starting once it has warmed up hers always starts but it is odd the way they start differently im not sure if that info helps but thought worth a mention :)

What is this noise? Piston slap? (VR6) - maybe not the end of the world..

could the old trick of 'using a long screw driver or similar to press on various parts of the engine & put your ear on the other end' possibly help trace where the noise is emanating from? if not, jim, get yourself down stealth & let vince listen I understand how disappointed you must be, as well as sad & angry, as I went through similar emotions when things were not right after id also spent so much on the VR. vince put everything right & a little more :) -
hello m8 no idea with a G60 sorry but hopefully someone on here will be able to :)

sorry to say this jim but it doesn't sound or act like the typical tappets noise the noise on your video doesn't sound like my VR used to before I had new tappets during my head rebuild :( could you possibly take it to stealth & ask vince just to have a listen? im sure he wouldn't charge you for a quick nose around & he would have heard many a poorly VR I would imagine -
excellent to hear you fixed it & how :)
-
ahh that makes sense lol
-
hmmm no that doesn't sound right they kind of look like an old scart tv socket but that is in my VR
-
I think they are all in the same place - lift the plastic surround on your gear lever & it is under there

oh dear Jim I feel for you in your position :( was there any mention of the issue persisting by those who rebuilt it? if the cylinders were in such a state that you were getting piston slap before the work was done then should it not have been advised that a re-honing would not stop the noise -
ha ha I had forgotten I posted the above lol not only did I find it, I brought it back & it got its first MOT with my new ownership on Tuesday this week :D

im going to see my friend who hires out his camper van next week & we used to attend most of the local meets until they stopped I will ask him if he knows of any that have restarted or moved & let you know if not then just a rado meet it will be lol

took an alternative route last night & saw a dark coloured VR6 with what im sure were 17" speedlines last night not far from Mettis Aerospace were the 17" speedlines a group buy on here? wonder if the owner is?

hmmm just seen the pic of my gear knob in my first post - it is being taken off & re-polished this weekend!! lol
-
Thanks Tan I really did get the same excitement & fluttery tummy when I collected it last night as that I did when I first brought it & picked it up from near alton towers :) a Midlands meet is definitely needed m8 interestingly, due to traffic I took a very slight alternative route last night & saw a dark coloured rado VR with what im sure were 17" speedlines never seen it in my area before but it is only round the corner from where I live so I will be looking again

cambridge audio are quality wharfdale are ok but to be honest they don't live up to the price I know that Mordaunt-Short speakers are superb as my parents have had some for many a year but I don't know if they do any portable stuff I guess it will come down to cost & level of portable you want you could for example have a static amp/ipod dock/Bluetooth receiver kind of setup but then have speakers in different rooms that link in to them (a bit like the sonos setup I guess) or fully portable in terms of a battery powered docking station good luck in richersounds, I know I would end up walking out of there having being seriously shorted in the pocket lol

is there not potential for an issue if the flow rate of the waterless coolant differs to that of a water/G13 mix? due to the very small channels the VR has to increase heat dissipation IIRC ive read that you shouldn't use things such as wynns coolant stop leak as the viscosity of them can block the channels I mentioned above

thanks to leon263 for clarifying my tires question

ha ha i posted part of the wikipedia page. which if you look in full has several options depending on if UK or just england etc the pub do allow fires but it is literally just a field, no amenities at all, so maybe not a good option im fairly sure there are some god campsites close though
