  1. Tis my oil of choice too! :) dr_mat, I've found that unless you are completely draining the head, removing sump, oil filter housing, etc etc, 6 litres is perfect to do a full change so you shouldn't need to get an extra litre after your free litre. :thumbleft:
  2. I painted mine and it looks pretty good I think. Iirc it was Hycote Aluminium but can't be 100% at the moment. Its not chipped off, but its not completely chemical resistant as I used petrol to get some CV grease off of the bottom when I changed the drive shaft, and it took a bit of the paint with it.
  3. If they've put a bit of gasket sealant on the chain covers, maybe removing them has caused the gasket to split there. I'd be reluctant to change it though Jim, can of worms and all that. Its adviseable to have the head skimmed every time its removed due to slight warping when the tension comes off. (Its microns, but that is all that is taken off the head when being skimmed anyway). But its another expense, and the valves would need to be removed to skim, and coupled with the very shallow chamber on the VR6 you can only get away with it a few times as well. I'd just put a bit of gasket sealant on the affected area and leave it as is mate, or it could end up causing more problems than its worth and the niggling thing could seriously snowball!
  4. There are a 4 of them iirc, all located behind the glove box.
  5. Yep, print off the buyers guide and take it with you! Classic insurance policies are generally only available if you are over 25, and they tend to be for SDP only. Most have limited mileage too and obviously the lower it is (1-6k miles max usually) the cheaper it'll be.
  6. Pretty sure they are a long time obsolete, and particularly difficult to get hold of. I remember speaking to VR6South about it, and I think he retrofitted headed seats to his car, and had quite a mission trying to get a set of relays on their own which he managed in the end from a scrap yard. That was quite a few years ago too I believe, when there was more likely to be a Corrado (or Passat he got them out of iirc) in a scrap yard.

    Sunroof problem

If you put the sunroof in the tilt position, the panel should just slide up and out of the rear when you push down on the retaining tabs each side.
  8. The soundproofing smells like wet dog when its sopping too! :gag:
  9. Hi Will, welcome to the forum! Have a look at this. http://wiki.the-corrado.net/the_corrado_buying_guide_checklist.html I'd suggest printing it out, and taking it with you to any potential viewing too. the 2.0 8v/16v cars are a good choice for a daily driver, and many run them this way too. They are obviously getting on a bit now, but generally the standard service and consumable items are still available from the dealership or aftermarket. There are a few snags obtaining trim and interior parts though, although they are starting to make a bit of a comeback thanks to a few sources reproducing bits and pieces. What is your budget? Have a look at what is available on Autotrader, Pistonheads, ebay, and gumtree then decide what you can realistically afford. The cheap ones are cheap for a reason, so I'd say aim for the top of your budget if you can. I'd suggest being willing to travel too. The cars are getting thin on the ground now, so to get the best for your budget may mean travelling a fair distance to get it. That said, if your gut tells you to walk away, do it! This is a decent and friendly forum, and if there are people close by, its always worth tapping into to see if they will have a quick look round it for you. If you have any questions in the meantime, feel free to ask away! All the best in your search, and hope you get what you're looking for! :)
  10. Heritage sell the hinge cover, but only one side and I can't remember which one! You'll have to go second hand for the number plate holder, unless you fancy stretching to the carbon fibre one trimsport are now offering.
  11. That does look a very nice example from the pics. A good machine polish will have that looking absolutely cracking in no time at all!
  12. Print this out and take it with you to any potential viewing. http://wiki.the-corrado.net/the_corrado_buying_guide_checklist.html By no means exhaustive, but invaluable and will give you an idea of common problems associated with the car. Hope you find what you're looking for, but without sounding negative 3k isn't a huge budget, so there may be a couple of things that you'll have to compromise with. That said, there are still bargains around if you're willing to travel. Good luck!
  13. Are the window scrapers no longer available then? I managed to get both sides from Heritage when I had my car resprayed.
  14. Welcome back! Shame you sold the Jet, and I don't think you'll find another for sale unfortunately. As for regular G60, OCD (only charged dubs) and JMR (John Mitchell Racing) are doing charger rebuilds, so it depends where you're based. Not sure if they are going as far as stage 5 though, you'll have to contact them to be sure. As for parts, something goes obsolete through VW direct on a monthly basis it seems. VW Heritage are doing a pretty good job of sourcing parts through VW Classic parts, with a few bits and pieces starting to be re-made, or if its not cost efficient, they're getting decent quality aftermarket parts in stock, and even commisioning reproduction parts through various manufacturers (Carpets etc). Hope this helps, and good luck with your search, theres a nice sounding original G60 just popped up for sale as it happens!
  15. I don't think this thread was intended to slate GPs, and tbh although they're well trained across the board they cannot be expected to be experts in every field within medicine. They can have a look to see if there is anything glaringly obvious, and in most cases a simple course in anti-biotics is enough to treat. If they cannot treat it for whatever reason, they book you in for a consultation with the specialist where you should be treated properly and effectively.
  16. Is it worth seeing if you could get it vapour blasted Daren? Not sure who does it round our area by I'm sure there'll be somewhere. That way it'll look literally factory fresh!

If the pump continues to work after its unlocked, that suggests an air leak somewhere. Worth checking around the pump and connections to the actuators behind the door cards first. There is a splitter up by the fuse box from memory too, so may be worth checking there as well. Have you done any work that could possibly upset the system recently?

Give the sunroof guides and runners a good clean, and lubricate them with the proper type of grease (have a search, there are links to the correct type from ebay on lots of them). It sounds like your motor is on its way out, but by cleaning and greasing the mechanism it'll prolong its life a little more. Does the central locking not lock from the passenger side as well? If its unlocking ok, I would have thought the pump was ok, and more likely the drivers actuator, but if both sides won't lock it then I suppose it does point more toward the pump...... Can you hear it working when you try to lock it?
  20. Sounds like its in good hands, congrats on your purchase! Look forward to seeing what you have planned for it. :)

  22. Isn't this part of the suspension strut?
  23. Registered! Had to put an image of my old car on the application form though as I don't have a current one.
