Could this be right? Brand new VR6 steering wheels fom VW Classic?
seanl82 replied to Hofmiester's topic in Ebay and Misc
Think that one is for late 16v/8v. VR wheel shouldn't have the silver strip at the bottom. :smug: -
Gotta say a massive thanks to Mr Lobitos. Again the forum comes up trumps! I'd like to say its karma, as I've let a few things go for postage in the past. Even so, there aren't many genuine people left in the world, but the majority seem to frequent this forum! :thumbleft:

No idea mate! I found an old copy of sprinter the other day and saw it in there, so just fished it back out and quoted from that! The article was written by the late Chris Gaskell. RIP.

Standard camber for a vr is -1°20' +/- 20', all others are -40' +/- 20'. Standard track should obviously be 0°, +/- 10'. Adjust the track using offside track rod only though.

Bloody hell Bobby, you're going through Corrados like my missus through choccy biscuits! Lol. Looks the best of the lot so far though mate. :thumbleft:
-
Haha, I wish I could afford it Sean! If I had a grand I would have snapped up that project in the sale section, unfortunately (in this respect) the missus has booked two holidays this year that I have to bloody pay for! so I'm skint. :(
-
Nice pile of parts there Matt! That's another few things I could possibly add to my list when I pull the engine.........
-
Doubt it'll be anywhere near the standard of yours Chris, but hopefully it'll look nice and fresh all the same. :thumbleft:
-
Hopefully not Matt! Although it has got quite tappety and a bit Smokey of late.......... I'm not stripping it completely, although I'll inspect chains even though they were done less than 10k ago. It may need a complete rebuild in time, but it's not gonna happen in the next couple of years tbh. It may just need a top end rebuild and its the weather that's causing it to look Smokey. I may have something to rebuild over time if I pick something up next w.end anyway................:silent:

Mixed day today. A while back I mentioned that someone previous had cross threaded four of the sump bolts. The three inside closest to the GB bellhousing, and the one that pokes out a little by the PAS pump. I finally got round to removing the sump again and re-tapping them all, using some M8x15 bolts to secure it all. Sump now seals nice and tight. Unfortunately the hope that this would be the end of the leak in that area was quickly snubbed out after running it up. Looks to be the crank seal after all, which is obviously an utter bitch! I also noticed a slight leak from the oil cooler as well. Insurance is up beginning of April, so I'm gonna take it off the road for a couple of weeks, and pull the engine. I've got a couple of weeks off at easter, although we're away for a week, but I can make a real good go of the engine bay and paint up the lump and GB in a few days. I'll now start sourcing various new seals and bushes ready to fit. I tested the coil I got for £15 from the scrappy and its spot on, but what I didn't notice was the Auxiliary Water Pump I also got,has a different connector for the plug! It was only a fiver so not too bothered about that, although there's still a slight weep from the bottom of the one that's on. Got the JL components that came with the car back in with the crossover velcro'd to the back of the glove box. I also sorted a slight issue with the alignment of the wing from a couple of weeks ago, and gave the car a much needed wash and interior clean. I'll definitely get some photos when I pull the lump, its something I've kinda wanted to do for a while to make it look nice in there! Its a bit of a ballache, but there's good reason to do it now.

Mines pretty pants atm too. Low to mid 20s most of the time.

I reckon if you could do a how to using pics from your Matt, then add in others that will also fit (mk3, b3 Passat etc) as although the information is out there, there is alot of conflicting information with most people unsure. We all know how bad the search function is too, so if there is a sticky in the exterior section with everything bought together, it'll make life much easier for anyone in future. :thumbleft:

It may be senility setting in, but I quite like this!

I'll take it back. I couldn't view the vid on the kindle earlier, but just had a decent look on the laptop now and it does look pretty good tbf. That said, many concept cars look awsome, yet never make it to production. -

Yep, definitely losing your marbles.:drinking:  -
Actually that year the only Corrados were mine and Dans (DDS Dan) there. A lot of other marques too but some very nice VAG and Porsches in attendance. There is quite a split between the younger and older crowd though. The youngsters being a bit silly with burnouts and music at max which doesn't show the majority in a positive light unfortunately.

Bit too far away now. I was there the year before last, and was directly behind a lad in his dad's frontera, as he went sideways into a ditch on the way to Budleigh. I made sure he and his passengers were OK and got the car out OK, then drove off chuckling at their stupidity attempting at Sharp 90 degree bend at 40 mph. Was a good turnout though and some nice examples.

No worries mate. I had a mk3 golf with essentially the same engine a few years back, and had thoughts along the same lines as you. It's a difficult engine get any gains from tbh. My suggestion would be just to enjoy it for what it is. It'll turn more heads just from its look than by flying past people at a high rate of knots. At least you have the benefit of reasonable economy though! If you want more power later down the line, sell it and buy a VR. You'll know the common quirks (I don't like the word problems! Lol) and it'll stand you in good stead finding a good one mate. :thumbleft:

Well for the price of a supercharger setup, you could buy a complete VR6. The charger at stage one (depending on what it is) will only bring you up to about 160bhp stage 1. - still far below that of a VR standard. If you want to go above stage 1, it starts getting even more expensive! Internals on your lump are pretty weak. Rods, pistons, bolts, cooling, management, and the building of it all will cost you thousands! Really not worth it for what it'll give you, and the most important bit - you'll still see a clean pair of heals off the lights from the majority of those wishing to give you opportunity.
-
Thanks dude. It's still far better than mine that has chunks missing both sides! Let me know how much postage will be and your details, and I'll get the dosh to you asap. Thanks again buddy!:thumbleft:
-
Think it might be worth researching before assuming that a charger is a good idea. There's a reason (or ten) that there are probably only one or two supercharged 2 litre 8v VWs of this generation in the UK.

I think I prefer the E46. Not sure why but I've never been taken with the TT in any flavour. I think the E46 just looks classier imo, and although your TT list has more pro's, I'm not sure it would feel as 'special' to drive. Just my thoughts anyway.........
-
Think they're still available, around the £65 Mark iirc.

Ahh, I knew the job I'm in will stand me in good stead for something! Lol. I have a USB connector at the front of mine too. Fortunately I also have a stereo Jack input, and I have a right angled Jack connector so the wire goes straight down to the little cubby hole below the ashtray to connect my phone. (Doesn't have Bluetooth though) and I connect my phone (not a thoroughly incompatible with everything else on earth and overpriced Apple device) straight to that. :smug:

Unless you can fab some mounting points to the tunnel itself, I wouldn't bother. Mounting it to the plastic surround seems a bad idea to me, it's pretty flimsy plastic so can't see it lasting very long personally.
