  1. Redo the foam seals on the heater box and grease the mechanism up too whilst your at it! Preventative maintenance is better than corrective! :thumbleft:
  2. I've got quite a few halfords pro bits and pieces, as well as the odd britool and snap-on spanner, but I've got a 180 pc Crescent set for Xmas a few years ago that I use more than anything else. It was in costco for about £60 and has a lifetime warranty. The only bugger was that my mum's husband had bought the set a few months prior, and his came with ratchet spanners the lucky sod! It's been perfect up to now and has had a fair bit of Abuse! Worth a look as they sell some good stuff there mate!
  3. PM' d Matt. :thumbleft:
  4. Two orginal examples with less than 30k on here in the last week. Both under 9 grand. Cant imagine what a 17k car would be like!
  5. Looking very tidy indeed. Good work so far! :thumbleft:
  6. Pretty sure I have one Matt, PM me tomorrow around 4pm and I'll check the shed. I'll forget if you don't! ............bloody age creapin up!
  7. Lol! Sorry mate, I know it's not funny! I'd start off cleaning up all your earth points in the engine bay and checking again. There's a disk where all the internal earth meet behind the drivers side dash vent too, worth checking nothings loose there. It's a weird one, but earths cause some weird problems! Other than that I couldn't really say apart from a short/earth somewhere. When I got my car, the engine wouldn't turn off when the lights were on. Wiring was a shambles so I spent ages making good and heat shrinking all the bare wire that was twisted together and uninsulated everywhere. Don't know what specifically was causing it, but it sorted problem.

    VAG banger.

Have a look for mk3 or even mk4 Golfs on Gumtree mate, tons about and you'll probably even get a reasonable VR or slightly less reasonable 1.8t for a grand.
  9. Good work compiling the list Anna. All these are pretty regularly required as are known points of failure or easily damaged. Another possible is the late heater control mechanism. The cover is on the list but not the mech, which is a very common problem. Thanks so far! :thumbleft:
  10. I'll have the B pillars posted please. PM me details and I'll get funds across. Thanks!
  11. The chrome Corrado script badges seem to have come up a lot recently too. - 535 853 687
  12. Yeah I had it coming through the throttle cable grommet where the missus parked in facing up an incline. the grommet is split to feed over the cable in situ and there was a gap which the water found its way down. worth a check there anyway.
  13. I think its false that in a multiple car accident that the person behind is responsible with regard to insurance claims. When it happened to me, the person that was the cause of the accident was solely responsible. Everyone else involved was stationary at lights when it happened though. We had to draw a diagram of where we were in the line, and give a description of events including our "opinion" of why it happened.
  14. Can't believe the only comment I've left on this thread is 'nice garage!'. I've just read it from start to finish and I've got to say well done. You've taken a very very clean car, and gone to the next level with it. It's really good to see how almost every part you've purchased has been from the dealer to maintain a very OE feel to the car. It really is something which people should take inspiration from, and realise that with a very few choice mods, they can look as good as this. It's certainly something I want to achieve with mine, however in reality it's unlikely. Top work sir, please continue! :thumbleft:
  15. Bugger! Almost exactly like what happened to me in my old valver, and I was number 3 in the 5 car accident. sadly it wasnt a little SEAT, but a bloody Range Rover that hit me! Neither me nor the Corrado faired as well as you though.........bloody loved that car!:( Glad your ok though!
  16. Bit of copper pipe and a flaring tool, can't be too hard! With this wiring info and description of what's what, I'm sure more will carry out this conversion now. I may even be buying a late Golf VR to break next w.end instead of stripping an unknown one from the breakers yard now...........:smug:
  17. Excellent and very thorough, thanks for taking the time mate! When you get your pics together, stick it in the wiki as this is brilliant! :thumbleft:
  18. Thanks guys, really appreciate it. A 'how to' in the wiki would be good I think, from what you've both said, it's a really worthwhile upgrade with parts readily available still. :thumbleft:
  19. I did search, but with a title of 'brakes', is it any wonder I didn't find it! Thanks for the link though. :thumbleft:
  20. I think we wear our enthusiast glasses when going to view cars. You've got to remember that the vast majority of people simply don't know how, or really don't care about looking after their car. A quick wash with a gritty sponge and washing up liquid does a lot of damage and really dulls paintwork, and your advantage person wouldn't really care if the gear change was a touch sloppy. They'd probably associate it with the gearbox and shy away from getting it looked at if they don't have a warranty. It's just a tool to use to get to work in for most people.
  21. Thanks Sean. I'll ask how much for it all before I start stripping it down! I'm going back next weekend so may well get it then. The guy that served me said they have another VR coming in so I'm hoping it's a late one and I can grab everything for the OBD2 conversion too. So do I need to replace all hard lines, or just the rears and bin the bias valve?
  22. I had one of those cheap ebay trolley jacks a.few years ago. Admittedly it was being used on an uneven surface, but both rear casters bent, then the seal on the pressure release went after about 6 months. Luckily I noticed before getting under the car! Personally I'd never get one of those again. Invest a bit more and it will last you a long long time.
  23. Sorry mate, it's just too big and bulky to be worth it. It's likely to get damaged in transit too so considering I'm giving it away, I don't want to loose out on either the postage fee if it wasn't insured, or have to go through the hassle of claiming if I send it insured, and it'll probably cost a fair old whack! Couple that with packing etc, it's just not worth it. Check out DevonDubShack, not toooo far from you, and they often have Corrados in for breaking. Probably won't work out too much more and you'll be able to eyeball it yourself before buying.
  24. Anyone have a parts list, and even better a guide to fitting? Just been to a rather large vehicle recycler that's pretty close by, and there were a few mk 3 golfs there. Will any mk 3 with disks all round do? There are a couple of early vr6s which I took a couple of items from, but hoping they'll have an obd2 one in before long and I can get quite a bit from it. Cheers, Sean.
  25. As title, very straight with zero rust around the arch, and only very slight rust around bottom bolt hole. It WILL need painting though as its had a very poor rattle can respray in DBP. Has lots of scratches too from storage, but it's free to anyone that wants it. I'll give it a couple of weeks then it'll be going to the scrappy.
