which ignition leads ? whats your choise ?
seanl82 replied to robrado974's topic in General Car Chat
Go for the DubPower 7mm leads Rob. Its all a gimmick this "Performance Lead" nonsense. You'd never know any difference, because there isn't really any. They won't fit in your lead guide plastics either mate. -
Wheel back and on the car. Trying to adjust suspension height which is proving harder than I thought it would be as it obviously wasn't set correctly when originally fitted. Taxing next weekend after thinking about laying it up for the winter, but deciding I want to actually drive it! Trip to Brooklands for the VR6oc national day ultimately decided it, as I'd love a pic on the bank. Just hope weather holds off so I'm able. Maybe I'll give it a break next year........... Since I got a set of front calipers thinking they were 288s, I've always been a little unsure. Found out last night that they are not, and are actually 280s after reading a post on ClubGTI. Going back on ebay shortly and I'll try to find another set. Guy I bought them off said they came from a 97 Golf VR so assumed they'd be 288's. Apparently not. Hey ho, less than £20 delivered though so shouldn't lose out.

Thanks bud, checked and they're still quite a way off. Got fed up so I'm watching the football now. Will re-commence another day..........

Ok I'll wait for what Ruggy says, because ideally I need the handbrake trim and leather handle too. Cheers mate. -

If Ruggy doesn't go with this, and you're willing to split it slightly, I'd be very interested in the gear gaiter, knob and surround, and the handbrake handle and cover trim. :thumbleft: -
Can anyone advise me where to take measurements for suspension height please? Now my RX228's are on, its obvious the suspension has been set wrongly in the past judging by arch gap. All I've done previously is raise all four by 20mm when I got it as it was too low. I've had a play with the height on all four wheels, and I can't quite get it right. Both rear tyres are brand new, and both fronts have 7mm tread. I've been taking measurements from a level floor, up the centre of the wheel and to the arch. My O/S Coilover is nearing the top, and the N/S is quite far down, yet the N/S is still around 20mm higher. When I adjust one corner, it obviously affects the other three slightly so its quite time consuming. Fronts are near level, so a little more fettling should get that sorted. I'm just wondering if I'm taking measurements from the right place? Any help much appreciated. :thumbleft:

Very jealous of your N/S wing........... Shouldn't have been such a tight arse and upped my bid! lol -
Check to make sure you're getting voltage to the coil from ignition. If that is correct, as you said it occasionally started before changing everything over, its not uncommon for parts to be defective when new so systematically start replacing the new stuff back for the old, starting at the coil if you have voltage to it. Dizzy should rotate, but its only a mechanical gear so unlikely to be at fault. Its this that rotates the rotor arm to distribute the spark. Loosen off the two securing bolts, and give it a gentle tap both ways. If it ran ok before being laid up, then timing should be fine there though. After cranking it over a bit, remove a spark plug to see if its wet to ensure you're getting fuel, but tbh it sounds like spark related stuff to me. Just a case of chasing it back mate.

Willing to help anyone in need in the Fareham Hampshire area. Have VCDS with 16 pin OBD2 Style connector.

Also if anyone can recommend a good replacement gear gaiter, I'm all ears! :thumbleft:

Lots of arse today. First time its happened since the upgrade so I wouldn't have mentioned it, but for the fact that the peach of a bum has been fuzzed out.

Looks in a pretty rough state. Well done for taking it on, and hope you manage to save it!

They all come back in the end.................. Seems to be a lot of owners in Hampshire and surrounding areas at the moment, welcome back!

Hard to tell, the light is reflecting off the paint on the original so is accentuating the step of the flare, but to me the replacement looks early. Worth offering it up against the original to be sure though. It'll be pretty obvious I would have thought when side by side.

Big thanks to Hasan (fla). Excellent seller and kept me up to date with everything. I'm usually a little wary with Bank Transfers but as an established member and being well respected on here, I knew everything would be fine. Thanks again mate, more money to spend on rectifying the fault codes it threw up now!

Alright Nick, do you still have the N/S front wing? If so, how much would it be painted in LC6U Classic Green Please mate? Possibly O/S wing too dependant on price. Cheers mate, Sean.

Did they sort the issue with bolts then Matt? I'm ordering some lines next pay day, and I've heard a few people saying lately that they were sent the wrong bolts. I'm thinking of going for the black sleeve too to keep it a bit more OE looking, and its a couple of weeks wait for manufacture so I'm expecting them to cock it up somehow, which obviously doesn't give me much confidence in them as a whole.........

One of if not THE best detailing shop in the UK, heard a lot of good things about their training days too, lots of good advice to be had from people who are amongst the best in the business, including Kelly himself. Anyone thinking of giving it a go, don't hesitate! :thumbleft:

Ahh thanks for clearing that up Chris.

Thanks guys, appreciate it! Just been to get the tyre fitted to the wheel that had the puncture, and the fitter spotted what I didn't, a crack! :pukeright: Ran around and managed to find someone who'd repair it. He stuck it on a rotating vernier gauge thing, and luckily its not buckled, so left it with him for repair. Contacted the guy who I bought them off, and he refunded the price for repair without hesitation which was good of him. Said he didn't realise, but the fact he didn't argue would suggest otherwise. That and the fact I know where he lives! :2gunfire:  Should have it back early next week for the tyre to be refitted, so it'll still be on the car and sorted in time for taxing at the end of the month, which is what I was hoping for.

I think they were dealer fit so most were different mate.

You can still get the gasket from VW, but they're £40 odd! I bought a Victor Reinze one from ECP so good quality for about £16. Not sure about the sump, but I just got a good used one. Alternatively the alloy sump from a v6 4mo Golf I believe also fits, but is shallower and you'll need a new pump as well to fit.

Looks like the arch is a little more flared so I'd say late, but hard to tell from a pic.........or in person for that matter! Part numbers were on a sticker on the inside I think, so its pretty unlikely to still be there tbh.
