I've just taken mine off, and I find that the swage line a bit further up actually hits far more often than the rubbing strip tbh. I can't help with what to use, but don't use any other adhesive, or sealant as the chopper who owned the car before me did. I've had to scrape it off and taken even more paint with it. Luckily I'm having a respray over winter so its not a massive issue for me, but you may see yourself or others off further down the line if you don't do it properly.

Lots of very good temporary or semi permanent trim dressings on the market. The best (and most expensive) are G-Technic C4, and Carpro Dlux which will last well over a year of daily use. Auto Finesse Revive, Einzett Gummi Pflege is excellent on rubber seals too, and I use Carpro Perl. I use Perl because its highly diluteable so can be used on exterior, interior, tyres, engine bay, etc etc to whichever effect you want to achieve from high gloss to satin finishes for interior. Its a great price and it goes a long way when you dilute it. You can also use a hot air gun to restore it back to original, although sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Just be very careful about how long you keep it concentrated on one area as it'll lift your paintwork! Boiled Linseed oil and Peanut butter work, but are very messy and very often streak with rain water. IIRC, the centre cap badges are 55 mm mate.

Welcome! Looks a nice clean example, congrats on your purchase!

All in your bedroom with the various set of wheels you have there too! What you need to do is put the four wheels on the corners of your bed, sit up with your steering wheel and make brum brum noises! :awesome:
-
Love the Number Plate, I really need one now! Both sets of your seats are fantastic mate, not sure which I'd prefer to be honest. The Recaros are, well.... Recaros, and retain some originality, yet the R32 seats look amazing and are finished really well. I'm not big on aftermarket steering wheels though tbh, although again this looks like a nice addition and will sit well with the Recaros mate.

Thats an excellent example there! Personally I think its going a bit too far and not really my cuppa with regard to the interior retrim but gotta hand it to him, he's done things properly.

Apparently its because more car thefts are now committed after house break ins, so the thieves know which car is yours automatically if its parked on the drive! Just a case of pressing a button if they're not sure nowadays though!

Its fine Rob, I've not reached the age to try and hide it yet! I'm 31 mate, but I've only been driving 6 years. I had to attend a driver awareness course, and have 3 points, both for speeding! :bonk: Its a 4k limited policy, but I've no agreed value. I'm insured with ClassicLine btw which were around half the price of any other classic policy I found. My car is parked on the drive, in a relatively good postcode I think.
-
Yeah I pay £235 with 4k, but I don't have R32 goodness mate......:(
-
There are short term policies available, but if you were to do that 10 times, it would work out more expensive in the long run than to just insure it on an annual classic policy with very limited mileage to bring it right down. 2k miles on a classic policy could be had for less than £200 PA I reckon.

The handbrake will sit over to the drivers side slightly due to usage. Over time with it being pulled up, it naturally gets pulled to the side slightly as well. You may be able to push it a bit to centralise it, but be careful as it will weaken the spot welds on the base plate.

Pagid discs and pads less than £60 to your door from CP4L mate. -
Almost bought a nugget valver as my first, but when I went to look at it, it had been really poorly blown over and was sat rotting in a farm courtyard. The advertising pics were obviously from a couple of years previous, and it was a very nice example. It was owned by a forum member up in Scotland before they sold it to the guy advertising. Shows the importance of up to date pictures when looking for one.

Man up and pull harder! Its a bit of a nightmare getting it off tbh. Release the tab then give it a wiggle whilst pulling. It'll come off eventually, but perseverance is required. Its the only way to do it without breaking the cover trim off, which the chump who owned my car before me decided would be easier.

Alot of the quoted prices which are being posted are showing as £20 ??? Is anyone else finding this?
-
Just took it off and as its quite small with just two screws, Royal Mail 2nd class plus the packet, call it £3 mate.
-
Very kind words James, thankyou. :thumbleft: Its pointless going to waste if people want things. I have been looking on ebay for a few months now for an interior relatively local to shamelessly butcher and salvage my leather though! In any event, there have been ones too far away that have not sold at 99p start price! Its a crying shame, but obviously it would cost too much to courier an entire cloth interior thats isn't worth alot, so at least by stripping it down anyone who needs something specific like me can get hold of it.

Haha, just realised when I saw your username. :bonk: Is every other gear easily selectable? Gear selector mech may need slight adjustment. Theres a guide in the wiki section, or do a search for the stick end as many have had this problem mate.
-
Mines the same as this. At least I can move mine between screen and dash vents though which is all I ever use anyway.
-
What engine mate? And when does it happen? If its when your coasting to a standstill, then its pretty normal. The syncros on all VWs of this era are very weak. You just need to get used to it and adapt your driving style. If it happens when the engine is cold, try a gear oil change but bear in mind the cars are all pretty old now and the cars have been ragged a little.

Can you not take it from the ashtray light or the back of the heater dials? Easy enough to splice in....
-
Yes it is mate. PM me your address and I'll get a postage quote for you buddy, shouldn't be more than a few quid though.
-
Dave, I'm sure there was never any intention to rip anyone off. Someone was asking after them and was informed they were no longer available, so others offered to help make them using a copy. Someone else then said maybe you'd have the CAD drawings. I don't know you myself as I wasn't around when you were a forum regular, and I'm sure thats the same in most cases here and quite a few got very enthusiastic at the idea, myself included. If you still had the drawings and were willing to make a run, I'm sure there would be quite a few takers.

Rob, I've got a quote and the cheapest I could find is through Paisleyfreight. With packing materials its gonna be around £18 due to the size mate. If you can PM me your postcode I'll get an exact one but thats a rough idea if its any good to you. Cheers, Sean.
