if you read the thread, you'd see your off the mark and thats not what its about. and from what your saying, its okay to speed if you're local and know where the camera's are but if you don't know where the camera's are, its okay!? Good contribution  you're being very selective about what you're reading here. There's nothing democratic about speed camera's and its not a whinge about speeding. the 2 main points here which are 1. the dangers that occur due to the camera's - people braking/not looking at the road as they should be - these cannot be denied. 2. they are not safety camera's as portrayed OR a crusade to save lives (any government wanting to save lives would ban smoking and not cop out as ours has and make up ludicrous smoking bans in food-serving pubs only rules). they are money making cash cows (quote, the wire :) ). Read the title of the thread and don't harp on piously about "....don't break the law.......move elsewhere if you don't like ....." Not relevant.

i didn't reallt take BBN seriously in his request? Think he was being a bit tongue in cheek - if he wasn't, ditto bluejoe and chilly and go buy another corrado, ya leech ;)

i too researched many things about camera's when I was harshly prosecuted and I can assure you that there has to be a speed camera sign to indicate that your in a camera zone within 0.5 mile of any speed camera, fixed or mobile site. If there isn't you cannot be prosecuted. you are fully entitled to ask where the sign is located and in what relation to the camera you were flashed by. i went back and checked. also, all mobile sites are set locations. they are not random and have to be published on the local constabularies website. not helpful when you're driving down the road but at least you can check in advance or at least check your local area regularly.

sorry, but i feel the easy answer is to buy another corrado - what is this, the fountain of all knowledge? :) PS. i notice kev still managed to answer your question in 10mins

i've seen figures like that running at 60-70 constantly - trouble is, except in dire circumstances as those mentioned, no-one can resist having a bit lark around......:)

Multiple keys. Can i fix my door handles so i can have 1 key
H8RRA replied to quicky1980's topic in Interior
...unless you insert the ignition key into a barrel and match the tumblers up as described above. agree, you can get the tumblers exact as you describe but you don't have to and as you say, you wouldn't want to be removing the ignition barrel. reaaly not necessary - just use the ignition key and "pick'n'mix! -

my local vw (who know me first name terms sadly  ) charged me a fiver and most certainly do it themselves. its very easy to do and not worth paying for. 1. take your handle off - check the assembly of the parts on the back of the lock before you remove circlip - remove circlip with key in lock and the barrel slides out as all the tumblers lie flat when the key is inserted - to allow rotation. 2. once the barrel is out, you can remove the key and put in the key you wish to match up with. some tumblers, if not all, will now stand proud. You can then swap the tumblers around to get them to lie flat to allow the barrel to rotate once its back in the handle/lock housing. You don't even need a new barrel as you can just get old handles/locks from corrado's, passats etc to source the different size tumblers. alternatively, as previously mentioned i think, barrels are only about £8 so you can buy one, throw away the key and make up a new barrel with the 2 sets of tumblers from your originals and the new one. Even if you don't have spare tumblers, you can swap the existing ones around to get the best match and file any that are proud, as a last resort. If you're delocking, you will have 2 spare locks to pinch tumblers form to sort out you boot lock. The only important factor and thing to bear in mind is that the barrel has to rotate and the only thing that stops it rotating is the tumblers. -
wil dig some out and post soon

you're wide open there mate - cos you drive like a pensioner? :) i have rarely been caught but I have 3 points from a mobile that was in the lake district - on a country road in the middle of nowhere, on a dual carriageway that i believed to be 70mph, just over the brow of a hill - no chance to slow down even if i thought i needed to. it was obviously and totally a trap and this is what toally pisses people off - no chance to see it and on a stretch where you could easily think the speed lmit was 70 - but i later found was 60 (seemingly the central reservation wasn't wide enough for the limit to be 70) you can picture the scene though, people - and no doubt lots of bikes, driving on quiet country a road, over the brow of a hill and slamming on the anchors as other cars come over the hill and see slow moving car and speed camera's - so-on and so-forth. ANYWAY, this braking issue seems to have taken over here but looking back, that was only part of what i was suggesting. Even if you don't need to brake and potentially cause accidents - (and this this does happen as a result of camera's so theres no point denying it doesn't ) , people will look down to check their speedo just to make sure. due to the amount of camera's around and the increase, this means - you have people braking - yes call them idiots if you like - you have people looking for them as they are paranoid, especially if you are in an unfamiliar area and don't know where they are - you are constantly taking your eyes off the road, where they should be, to check your speedo even if you are totally blameless and trundle around at 30 all the time. i know many who drive from a to b, have no passion for cars who are caught as they slip up by a couple of mph. In the last five years, the motorist has been criminalised and had their pockets picked as the amount of convicted drivers has increase from 5% to over 55% of all licence holders since the introduction of speed camera's

...and keep a lot of coppers on their asses doing unnecessary paperwork so they don't ge sued or get cases chucked out by REAL criminals who sue for damages for being tw4tted when they try to rob someone... sorry - wrong soapbox

he's got it! By george he's got it! My point exactly - surely this is obvious to everyone else or are people blinded to the "....safety camera" and "...if you don't speed, you don't need to worry..." argument????????????

Absolute baulderdash. If you're telling me that you maintain an exact 30mph, 70mph, whatever, uphill and downdale 100% of the time you drive, you either don't drive or are talking from your posterior. Do not believe you one bit. As soon as anyone ever see's a camera, the first thing they do is check the speedo regardless of how law abiding they are. Even if I had cruise control and it was set within the speed limit, I would still check my speedo. By this, I'm not referring to people who DO speed - see craigowls example above - but the problems that camera's cause EVERYONE as stated - eyes off road looking at speedo in THE WORST POSSIBLE LOCATIONS - those that are accident area's with camera's installed. I drove to bradford and around leeds on saturday an drove down the A65, i think, with chrisvr6nos - there must have been 40+ camera's!!! Mostly downhill heading toward Shipley and Keighley and due to the camera's, i constantly had to look at the speed as there was no way i could be certain i was below 30. Without the camera's, I would have had my eyes 100% on the road and may have drifted between25-35mph. By being able to look at the road constantly, even if travelling 3-4mh above the speed limit, I would identify hazards far quicker than if my head was up looking for camera's or down checking i wasn't doing 34mph I would give you £50 if you could drive in such an area without looking at your speedo when you should be driving normally and able to identify hazards/pedestrians/school kids etc. You'd either check your speedo or crawl at 20mph to be sure you didn't get flashed. Either way, you'd be a greater hazard than someone who drove sensibly and fully aware of their surroundings without looking at camera's or your speedo.

... i view that as the continued Americanisation of UK society and the ambulance chaser society. The driving factor is the claims society and wanting to reap benefits and point the finger of blame at someone else for financial reward. This lead to diminished responsibility and couldn't give a shit attitudes as well unfortunately. The first step would be to ban all of this ambulance chasing, "..have you had an accident in the last 3 years..." adverts which saturate TV, radio and billboards. Readin about some of these cases that have been won is beyond belief. such as mcdonalds sued for serving hot coffee and hot apple pie cos it burns!!!???? Will we get calor being sued because someone burnt their hand in their heater??? I visited my father in hospital recently and called into the canteen to get a coffee for my father. My daughter wanted to be the loving grandaugther (which she is :) ) and press the button on the coffe dispensing machine so she could say she got grandads coffee. When she ot within 10ft of the machine (I was right beside her BTW) i was acosted by staff as if the machine was some child eating device that children could not come within 20 mile of!!! Under no circumstances could she press the button. She was with her BLIDDLY FATHER AND WANTED TO PRESS A BUTTON ON A MACHINE!!!!!! - i wasn't allowing her to juggle with scalpel blades!!!!!! Obviousl parents cease to function once they leave their front door and cannot "parent" their child responsibly. BTW, the reason for no children not being able to operate the machine was because some gimp had tried to sue them when a child had been sent - by the parent - to get a coffee by themselves - for the lazy fat ar5ed parent - and spilt it and burnt themselves. We are totally furked up, man :x

From a previous thread regarding accidents and the tragic event at the weekend where a bunch of cyclists were wiped out, Previous thread ... I thought i'd raise the controversial subject of speed camera's that seem to be the kneejerk reaction to any accidents - or at least the justification for speed camera's, tagged as "safety camera's" (my A5re are they. ) So [sOAPBOX MODE ON], the reaction of authorities/police is to erect these cash generating speed camera's that do little to resolve the underlying issues - i would even suggest that it is suppressed that they cause more accidents than they prevent. In addition, they remove the process of addressing what issues have caused an accident or answering why a blackspot is a blackspot - and cash generated is just a fortunate spin-offf, eh?! Everyone knows what they are regardless of how it is disguised but there is some acceptance of them ( :?: :? ) by justifying them as safety camera's?! First off, as things stand, I agree with them being sited outside schools and other such places - kids are full of the joys of spring and will run across roads etc......but here I continue my rant - it seems to me that the majority of schools are sited on long straight roads where people will drive that little bit faster/over the limit. Many are on very busy long straight roads - its always struck me that this is so obviously dumb BTW. Additionally, I constantly get very riled when I try to pass local schools anywhere between 0830-0915 and other leaving & departing times and there are cars, 4x4's etc. parked both side of the roads restricting traffic to one lane, getting other drivers vexed, annoyed, wound up etc because again, the schools are located on major roads with no parking facilities and most parents don't give a sh1t and park anywhere to save a few minutes dropping the kids off (don't get me started on the inadequacies of public transport and why kids are ferried by car to school !!!) By addressing the actual problems, there are better solutions that would prevent accidents as opposed to speed camera's which without a doubt ARE just cash generators AND an easy, quick, spineless fix that ticks the boxes to say a problem has been addressed in a society where everyone is target driven - even those that shouldn't be, like the police who should be there to maintain order, not be graded on how many tickets they've issued, ASBO's etc.... Now, back to SPEED camera's. Surely it is obvious that they distract drivers more than 6ft scandanavian blonde's (female/male - delete depending on your gender/persuasion  ) in miniscule, belt-style mini skirts walking down the street topless??!! They distract drivers immensely (as does the blonde BTW - girls insert your own fantasy image here  ) you are CONSTANTLY looking for speed camera's and not on the road ahead OR at your speedo because everyone is so paranoid they will stray 3-4 miles over the limit and be flashed - even if you aren't speeding or prone to doing so. In truth, most drivers would drive a lot safer if they weren't looking at the speedo and for camera's CONSTANTLY. I've read and believe it is true (great conspiracy theory here) that there is evidence of this but it is suppressed due to the revenue camera's generate. To summarise, i think the government should employ an army of 6ft scandanavian blonde's in miniscule, belt-style mini skirt to walk the streets of our nation topless - we'd all drive a lot slower just to cop an eyeful   and i'd far rather be flashed by a buxom wench than a camera [sOPAPBOX MODE OFF] VACANCIES If you look like this and want an active job whilst saving the lives of our nations children and bringing smiles to everyones faces, please apply to the Depatment of Transport. Please include full height picture (Lingerie optional) Click for possibly NSFW scantily-clad example Edit: pic linked so people get a warning ;) - dinkus

I think you missed the irony in the post craig - typically, the reaction of authorities/police is to erect cash generating speed camera's that do nothing to resolve the underlying issue. By addressing the actual problem, there may be a better solution that would prevent accidents as opposed to speed camera's which without a doubt are cash generators and distract drivers immensely because you are CONSTANTLY looking for speed camera's and at your speedo because everyone is so paranoid they will stray 3-4 miles over the limit and be flashed. In truth, most drivers would drive a lot safer if hey weren't looking at the speedo and for camera's. I've read there is evidence of this but it is suppressed due to the revenue camera's debate. Now that I'm on my soapbox, think this is worthy of a new thread debate ;)

well, maybe it can emit infa red rays to melt any ice if that was the true problem - or here's a novel idea - lets grit the roads like they did in old days, wasn't that a good idea!?

as opposed to just checking the plugs as they come out, do a plug chop which will give a true indication of how the car is fuelling under load or at an rpm other than idle. See guide below for bike application, but it gets the idea across. TBH though, as phat says, I think your stabbing around in the dark and have spent a lot of money, with the benefit of hindsight - on bad advice from supposed experts. Stealth are the boys but logistically a nightmare distance wise. I would have suspected your injectors due to the fact you ran out of fuel and your plugs were manky when they came out - I would have replaced as opposed to overhaul them - if sh1t was dragged through, they may no longer be blocked but damaged from whatever debris was in them. the fact that everything occurred when you ran out of petrol obviously suggests this was the root cause and fuel pumps going, ecu problems etc sem unlikely unless you've been very unlucky with a nasty coincidence occurring at the time you ran out of fuel Q. What is a Plug Chop and How do I do it.? A. Plug Chops are what you do to tell which rpm range is rich or lean if you don't have an Oxygen or Gas sensor. Basically you run the engine under load, (some do it at a certain rev range e.g. idle, 2000-3500, 3500-4500 etc) however... It is MUCH BETTER to make marks on your Kill Switch casing at 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, Full (WFO) and put a pin in your throttle rubber so you can calibrate the throttle position, NOT the rev range) Then hit the kill switch, wait for the bike to cool, take out your plugs and "read" them for soot (Rich), Colour, Aluminium Bits (bad). Waiting for them to cool is recommended by most people due to Thermal Temp Diff. around plug threads. So it can be a Long term thing and a Royal PITA. An Idle Plug Chop is easy, because you do it every day, when you turn off your engine. START with NEW Plugs or you'll fool yourself. Hitting the "Kill Switch" is called "chopping" the plugs as you get the colour they are at that range, rather than at idle, which is where you normally turn off your engine (right?). Take out your plugs and check the Colour. Generally a nice "Tan" colour in the rpm range you are testing, is what you are looking for. Lamb Chops are tastier though. See this very good site http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/spkplghnbook.htm for a guide to Reading Plugs and Plugs in general. See the Exhaust Rejetting Spreadsheet for additional performance-related Spark Plug Issues.

like the music - probably as much as you like the ar5e of the bird in white pants ;) -
i was thinking - paul daniels in new hair piece - shock!!!!!

drive it - the only reason to lock it away to keep the mileage down is to retain some residual value. the fact that the market seems to have fallen out of corrado's - ie lowish milers going for 3-4k, i don't see the point in depriving yourself.

maybe the recoup the cost on factory tour fee's :)
