Our other option was to buy a second hanf S4 B6 on lpg when one came up - outlay about 6k, would probably need work over the two years given the age, would need to tax it and MOT it. Lease (PCH was what I signed up for, not PCP) works out at the same price when you take into account lower insurance for a Golf R than S4, no tax, no MOT, no tyres (hopefully!) and no bills. Kev - 5 doors for the nieces and nephews Manual because I want to still feel like i'm driving it 4 exhausts - aye...rather naff, but the only give away, so I'll let it go. 4cyl. Yup, totally agree. Sounds like the VR has limited days with VAG. I've never ever considered a lease car before, it was only this specific deal that attracted me, which is why I was so p***d when VW pulled it - I'd done nothing wrong, smoeone somewhere did something dodgy, why should I suffer. Don't get it until end of the month. Says you can get it delivered anywhere in mainland UK. Was thinking of asking them to deliver it to John O Groats and have a good drive home... :)

I've ordered one too, ordered on the £194+VAT as a personal lease but had it confirmed today that the broker applied for me as Sole trader, which I'm not, never was and unlikely will be. They've quoted an extra £50 a month for a personal lease on 5k miles so I'm sticking to my guns to get the original deal. The way things are going, I might just get it. Order a bog standard Tornado Red Manual 5-door. Was going to replce the Rado but a cross country drive persuaded me to keep it, so other half is getting the Golf and we're ditching his S4. S4 on LPG for sale soon, much cheapness (nothing wrong with it incidentally, just high miles and probably due a timing belt and clutch)!

I hd an S2 a good few years ago, cobalt blue with blue interior. I loved it, it was such a superb car to drive. Driving position was great, very comfortable on long journies, hanling was sublime, and very forgiving. The handbrake you get used to very quickly, the roof is good but can't drive with it off when raining, as I found out. Before I got my current Corrado, it was literally down to nother 944 or the Corrado. The Corrado won because a) I could afford to and was able to maintain it and b) it had a 6 cylinder. Latterly, I realised that it would have been a struggle to onvert a 944 to LPG(!) and that it's good having 2 very usable seats in the back. Superb machines, and compared to a 911 of similar era that I've driven, there's no comparisn - as an overall drivers car, the 944 won for me come rain, sun or snow. If that doesn't do it, the trip reset button will :)

Can you not just scrap the insurance claim? Insurance is a waste of time and money, I only pay it out of necessity, nothing else. You are not obliged to claim, but maybe beause the other car is involved you do. This forum is a brilliant place and you'll pic up the parts soon enough. I smacked mine headfirst into a tree years ago, some new panels, bonnet nd cross member and she's still going strong. What's a wee bent back panel anyway?

Go find yourself a Mitsubishi Starion.....everything else listed is so bland in comparison :) http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/mitsubishi/starion/mitsubishi-starion-2-0-turbo-1988/2100026

I'm only doing the bushes, so hopefully just dropping the front of the beam, cutting/melting/grinding out the old bushes nd have bought a Sealey tool to pull the new ones in. That's the plan. Will I get it done in a day?! fingers crossed!
-
Mat, I'm not sure off the top of my head, but pretty sure it'll be a million times easier replacing most of the rear hard pipes with the beam off. I can tell you tomorrow as i will be....replacing my rear axle bushes! haha! Great minds. My car still looks like a shed tho :(

I've been a few times visiting friends. Not really my cup of tea, but they love it. Obv full of ex-pats, so if you don't mind living in that type of community, it'll be fine. I found it all too pretentious, everyone with their flash cars and going to posh restaurants and so on. That said - the money is probably going to be good and no income tax. I would go there for a year or two to make some money and come back but could never live there, I love the west of Scotland too much, despite rain and potholes :) They are quite strict, for example, my friend has credit card debt and cannot leave the country until it's paid off. Summer is unbearably hot, so it's a case of jumping from aircon house to aircon car to aircon office. IF accommodation is paid for, it's fine, if not, you usually pay 6 months rent up front and then pay for 6 months at time, worth bearing in mind. Good luck whatever you decide.

Anyone in the Irvine area that can do me a favour?

I am away this weekend but if you've not got it sorted, i could help one night next week? -
I lived for years in Houston, Scotland, parents still do :) Welcome!

In theory, but it never works that well, so take getting the tracking done into acout - you might want to hanf fire and do other bits at the same time.

fla, this is the one I bought. Worked a treat, just slide over the tie rod once the boot is off, twist round until it locks and then loosen with the ratchet. I thought it would be too big but did the job no problem. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-4469-Track-Removal-Tool/dp/B00623EAHI/ref=sr_1_sc_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1393267091&sr=1-1-spell&keywords=tie+rodd+4469

I bought the took off Amazon and it made the job an absolute doddle, in fact, I wondered why i'd put it off for so long! getting the rubber boots off and new ones back on can be a pain, but more footery than anything. Watch out for the dowel hole in the gaitor and a corresponding dowel thing on the rack. . I couldn't get the track rod off the end very easily and just ground it off rather than spend ages carefully taking something apart that was headed for the bin.

Just want to say a huge thanks to easypops for helping me out in a pickle today. I was replacing the track rods and ends and was going to change the oil and filter. Long story short, I took it round the block to check the tracking and didn't realise the bonnet was popped (and unknown to me the secondary catch was seized and not working). The bonnet flipped onto the windscreen at about 30mph, cracking the top of the screen, mangling the bonnet and snapping the hinges. I called easypops hoping he'd have a bonnet in his Corrado treasure trove. Not only did he, but it was red, and he let me come round and helped me fit it on, saving me from endless problems trying to get a new one and the car being out of action. The best bit is that I just got a text saying he's won a set of red hinges on ebay for me! I'm so chuffed and just wanted to say thank you :) the world is better place for people like you and is what this forum is all about! Jamie

i've bought quite a few Sealey tools over the years and had no problem with them, got an air gun and wrench and they've served me well, can dismantle the front struts in about 5 mins a side if they are not seized. Well worth the money!

David, just before I order, will the 35mm-45mm be okay? I measured across the flats and it's 32mm, but assuming the size is the diameter, rather than across the flats, which will be 35mm+? Thanks, Jamie

I got two fully braided pipes made up at Pirtek for mine after the rubber hose chafed unseen and rubbed a pin prick hole in it, squirting the oil all over the place in the middle of France. No chance now with the braided hose. the rubber ones seemed fairly heavy duty, but i'd not take the chance again, it's hard to route them through without any kind of rubbing.

Still using mine as a daily along with the T25 :) As much as I'm hankering for a new car, the Corrado give me no just cause, so will just keep going enjoying every drive. Need to do the track rods and rear axle buses, but apart from that, going well for 208,000!

Any idea the price off the top of your head Ian? Cheers, Jamie

Merry Christmas, hope everyone has a lovely day.

I picked up some flue liner on gumtree for washers. Guy also had the bends I needed too. I actually think they came off the back of a lorry they were so cheap. Got a local roofer to drop it down, £100. I did the connections at the bottom .Been in two years without a prob. Whilst we are on the subject, your enjoyment of the stove will be much less with crap wood. Most kiln dried stuff at petrol stations isn't dried enough, so be careful where you source it from. I thought our stove was rubbish until I got some sacks of off cuts from a furniture makers and other logs he'd stored all summer.

Ooft, that is sitting high. Although I would say the front it the main issue, but if you have the wrong front, you probably have the wrong rear too hence why it's all skeewhiff.
