    Respray

my mate works at a bodyshop that repairs bmw's and mercs. he said allow a grand for a good respray (unless you want lots of bodywork doing too) someone charging you 2000 is just lining their pockets. and taking the piiiss.
  2. heat is great for paint if you are ever using a spray can for something, get it hot first. leave it on a radiator, or in the airing cupboard. in the past, i have boiled a kettle, then dropped the can in afterwards (with the kettle lid off) to get it nice and warm. it increases the pressure in the can, and makes for a nicer finish. top tip!
  3. he probably sprays them with the tyre on, as he scrapes the shiiit out the rim whilst fitting the tyres. the guy's having a tin bath. maybe a good bet for some old xr2 pepperpots but not if you have some nice rims. ovening is the pro way to dry the paint. bit like in the same way the "pros" use kit that doesnt chew the wheels whilst fitting the tyre.
  4. no way! i have some rca leads that have a "built in" switch wire (in between the leads) it's really spindly. i have been using it up to now ok, but i'll keep my eye on that!

    Humming hubs

it sounds like the bearings. they'll hum long before you have any play in fact if you have play that you can feel, it'll sound more like a violent thump than a hum!!!!!!!!!
  6. corrados look good in most colours. but no more so than black :D
  7. also make sure you got both a FAT power lead and earth lead. thin wont do.
  8. you'll struggle getting that door card off if you cant open the door though, bro! remove the trim around where the pin goes then poke something in there, to centre it while you get the pin started. its a right pain to do, i know.

    smoothrite

regular spray paint in a can takes a week to fully dry/harden your smoothrite is just thick allow it to dry and harden in it's own time. if you rush it, it may go wrinkly . . . .
  10. mine has electric central locking. one of the motors went rogue and stayed down. disconnect the battery and cut off it's lifeforce!!! that should fix it (if it's that)
  11. same here. and the heater only works on top setting.
  12. i was on the A50 from stoke to uttoxeter one time, and there was a vectra 2.0 16V sweating me i hammered it up to 130 in 4th, then got 150 in 5th. it was peaceful, and scary at the same time. scarier is thinking back on it, and all the "what ifs" enter your mind. like what it a CV joint let go, or someone pulled out and you hit them. . . . !!!!! hehe its the fastest i have ever been in a car though.

  16. thanks chief overfilling can be done through the speedo cable hole (on older golfs anyway) i heard it recommended once. doh 17mm allen key though.
  17. I think i ought to do this. I have not changed it before! my questions are - which grade oil? how much will i need? is there some sort of funky tool required to remove the plugs? is overfilling (by a controlled amount) a good thing?
  18. fuuck it get some wellers chrome wellers. they are old school. in fact they are from the school that was torn down to build the old school

    Driveshaft prob

its an outer cv joint you need. if you are going for some big power, then replacing the inners and outers would be a good thing. if anything, for peace of mind.
  23. i think i may run the tweeters double side taped to the pods. does anyone make a pod / pocket combo that has provision for a tweeter? if not, WHY NOT?!?!?!?
