Yeah - virtually the whole top-end comes off in one piece. I discovered that after I'd snapped an exhaust manifold stud & rounded off 2 downpipe nuts, trying to seperate the manifiold from the head. If there's an easy way - I'll usually find it ..

Henny, The branches should be able to get the Bosch ones without the need to contact me. The universal ones are okay - I have one on my car at the mo - just a bit more hit & miss than the propper Bosch ones.

Just goes to prove - merchant bankers aren't all that bright ..

Looks good Tom - you bringing it to E38 ??
-
I still think those car "bra's" look hideous .. :pukeright: Still - maybe the owner thinks my car looks awful too. Each to their own I suppose

No worries m8 - like you say, just wiggle it around a little. Pull the whole assembly forwards & upwards & it should come out fairly easily. Do the same when you come to re-fit it all. Build it all together before fitting the head back onto the engine. Just be careful not to damage the new gasket. BTW - be sure to use a metal head gasket. There are some dodgy gasket kits around with paper head gaskets. The kits that GSF sell are from the same manufacturer as the VAG ones - you'll be okay with one of those. Only gaskets that don't come in the kit are the throttle body gaskets - VW only.

In your list - there appear to be 2 seperate amps. The 4 channel Pro-Sound one should be okay for the front & rear speakers but won't power the sub. If you're fitting a sub - get the highest output, 2 channel amp that you can afford. This can then be "bridged" to supply a single channel to the sub. I have a Pro-Sound 4x120w amp in my car - powering VIBE component front speakers & the biggest 6x9's your likely to see, in my MDF parcel shelf. I can vouch for the sound quality - sounds great !

Be sure to use Bosch Lambda sensors (OE manufacturer) - last longer & more reliable than other manufacturers. Can be bought from various places. Your local branch of GSF should be able to order the correct probe from Bosch - may take a few days though. Get your local branch to give me a call, here in Birmingham (they'll have my number), if they have any problem ordering the probe. Steve McDermott, Mercedes Product Manager, GSF Car Parts.

The whole lot can be removed in one lump - just detatch the front pipe from the CAT. You'll end up removing a dirty version of this -

We sell the "universal" type but IMO you'd be better getting the proper sensor with all the wiring attached.
-
The Pro-Sound 4 channel amp will be okay for the front/rear speakers - I have a similar one in my car. I assume the other will be for a sub ? If so, try to get one with a slightly bigger power handling.

Sounds like a bad oxygen sensor (lambda probe) could be the culprit. Disconnect it & if the car is still the same, chances are that's your problem. The plug is down the back of the engine - next to the OSF chassis leg.

RSR outlet is definitely a good idea with a ported charger. People will quote different increases in bhp/torque with the mods that you list. Truth is that each car is different & some cars will benefit more than others. One thing for sure is that you'll get a noticable improvement with each engine mod that you do - provided that the engine is set-up & mapped properly. A big factor in how much bhp/torque you end-up with will be the condition of your crancase, pistons, etc. My engine had done 100k & the piston rings were completely knackered. The bores were also showing signs of wear. I wouldn't fit red-top injectors until you have the charger ported and/or cylinder head ported. You'll need to make sure you can get enough air into and out of the engine to make the hi-flow injectors worthwhile.

Just disconnect the battery & see what mileage it shows when you re-connect it. This may work if you have an electronic mileometer. Sometimes (based on my experience) when you re-connect the battery the mileage goes back to it's correct reading. If you have the older style mileometer with the little wheels that turn round, disconnecting the battery will make no difference.

Charger noise can be VERY bad news. Also with my experience of Jabbasport, I am not confident of their rebuilding skills/judgement. I have a knackered charger here to prove that !! Jabba's porting work is not upto scratch & nor do they replace all of the bearings when they do a "full" rebuild !! If my charger was knocking, I'd be getting rather nervous. With regard to the charger porting - to realise the full potential of a ported charger (as with most other engine mods), the car will need re-mapping.
-
Mileage memory is held in a chip inside the speedo/rev counter unit. Sounds like your's may be knackered. Try disconnecting & then reconnecting the battery

I wouldn't put Magnatec anywhere near my G60

AFAIK - lambda probe reading should go upto 1.0v ??

Good point - make sure the crossover frequencies match your speaker capabilities. Unless your using top quality speakers & mounting them properly - hi/lo pass filters will work just as well. Many speakers come with the ho/lo pass filters already fitted - remove these if you decide to fit crossovers instead.

Mine's around 4 litres too

nick48480, Cheers m8 - I still have a few bits & pieces to finish off though. I suppose the advantage of doing the work yourself is that you know the job is done right. Daz at G-Werks finished the engine for me, when I drove it there running on 3 cylinders. Given a bit more time I could have finished it properly myself but I had to get the car ready to go to LeMans. The thing about wheels is that some styles suit some colours better than others. It's just a case of finding what suits your particular car & colour. I'll be at Edition 38 - camping for the weekend. My car will be on the CCGB stand. Not sure if I'll be able to fit the front mount cooler & new bumper before then. That'll be a job for this winter along with the new rear axle, etc. -

lol - I think the foglight broke when I landed. No other damage to the bumper though - it must have just flexed enough to break the light. -
Contact the credit card company - they'll either stop payment or reclaim it on your behalf.

205/45R16's or 215/40R16's would be better - if you can get them. IMO - the sidewalls on 205/40R16's would be too small for 8" wide wheels.

Absoloutely correct there m8 Comments written on a forum can very easily be misinterpreted. The problem is amplified when the forum members who fall-out have never met each other. Kev & everybody else here on the forum is free to choose what they do with their time. If Kev does go, then I would hope that is his decision & not that he feels forced out.
