Star Struck It has come to my attention that the Corrado VR6 has lost half a star in The Knowledge! It's 'minus' point has changed too: used to be pretty much blank from what I remember from my old copies but its now 'a little nose-heavy' (which is of course true!). Just curious to know the reason for robbing this classic of its five-star status... Mick Green A few issues back we gave The Knowledge a thorough overhaul, realigning all the star ratings so that only the absolute all-time-great drivers' cars get a five-star rating. Fine driving device though it is, the Corrado doesn't quite measure up - JB

Nah, that would be let down in other areas. Besides, ill bring it up again, vr's arent front heavy, just poorly damped as standard. They have the exact same weight distribution as an integra type r... I always found my 16v a bit light and skittish at the front.

Your letter about the vr6 losing half a star made Evo magazine this month. :)

Yeah, its good being able to change them, just unfortunate it means practically a full gearbox strip down each time to get to them. Im not saying dont buy the diff, its just something to be aware of.
-
One thing ill add to this, as the diff uses friction plates they will need replaced every so often as they will wear. Wether this is as soon as every 20k or as long as 200k though I couldnt say, and would probably also depend a lot on how aggressive a driver you are.

Germany taking in the ring and some autobahns?

Calling planet Zog -is there room for Gordon Brown
Joe M replied to Andy665's topic in General Car Chat
The simple fact is, the more a car pollutes, the more petrol it uses, hence more tax is being paid already by the higher polluting cars. They should get rid of road tax all together and the beurocracy that goes with it. Even if they added something like another 5p per litre to petrol for this everyone would probably be better off. And whats with low emmision cars not having to pay tax at all??? They still pollute, just at lower levels, besides, its road tax for the maintenance of the roads that they use the exact same as any other car. Also, electric cars, they dont pollute directly but where is the electricity to charge them going to come from? More power stations that pollute!!! I know Gordon Brown would like us all to think it will come from green energy and windfarms but thats not gonna happen. They will realise soon enough that they will need to start embracing nuclear power as the french have done. -
The 10 minute charge time requires a 3 phase supply btw, I cant find any mention of how long it takes on standard 240v
-
It does: "True to its name, the Lightning GT could be charged in approximately 10 minutes for up to 200 miles of motoring, which would make long journeys a breeze. "

Poly bushes all round on mine with about 20k miles on them including about 12 trackdays, none of the problems shown on them threads. As for how it drives, fantastic. My opinion on bushes are that standard ones are fine on standard suspension, but as soon as the suspension is upgraded and the cornering loads increase then the standard bushes will deflect too much. So basically, if you upgrade the suspension, then upgrade the bushes, whether this is with poly ones or VT or whatever, its a good idea. Then again if you only upgrade the suspension to make the car look better or lower it excessively and drive about like a ponce, standard bushes will be fine.

Yeah, thats pretty much word for word what they say in the magazine.

Just got the new Evo through and its in it, they like it a lot. Apparently with its passat rear suspension and wider track than the golf gti it handles better, is also a touch lighter and they reckon it will be cheaper as well.

I like it, but not in Black. As with a few vag group cars atm black hides the grill and stuff at the front too much. I may even be tempted to go for one in a year or 2 when they bring it out with the more potent 2.0 turbo from the leon cupra/s3/gti e30/pirelli or a v6. Then again the gti pirelli edition is tempting me just now as well. :)
-
And remember to not have the bias valve on the rear axle fully extended if the back end is jacked up when your trying to bleed them.
-
You should still be able to get dot 5 as it is a different type of fluid (silicone based) and there are other types of brakes that are designed to run on it but not 5.1 Though, for the Corrado, 5.1 all the way.

I was just reading through this thread and about to mention about my cousin that had the 156 2.5 v6 that the cambelt snapped on leaving him with a 2 and a half grand bill... Lucky youve got the warranty, hope its covered. Lovely car btw, the 2.5 was great to drive when it was running right.

With a turbo life span of 5 minutes. You need almost 2 bar to achieve that.... which from a K03 is too much. It'll have a tiny little torque band aswell as a K03 can't push 2 bar to 7000rpm. New Leon Cupra has a K04...
-
Have to say, I quite like the new Leon Cupra. Not the best looking car but big brakes, sorted suspension and near 250bhp standard, £500 remap to 305bhp. Can be had for about 16 grand with under 10'000 on the clock.

That just seems like an excuse garages use to get more money out of you. Ive known garages to try to charge more for doing things like an oil change, front brake pads, brake fluid change etc as soon as they hear vr6. Theres nothing different in doing them jobs compared to doing it on a g60 apart from maybe removing an extra wheel bolt each side...

So who done your engine? What mods are there to it other than being in there? What gearbox are you running? What about management? Details man, details, im loving the sound of it :)

They do look handy, I used a torx socket when I last took the carriers off. How much did the rear 280 kit cost then?
-
Back to baffled sumps, anyone ever heard of or used accusump? Basically its an oil reservoir thats fitted to the oil system, either via the filter or on one of the lines of the oil cooler. When theres an oil surge or supply problem to the pump the oil from the accusump is released meaning no oil starvation. Sounds interesting..

I really dont see the point, on fast road or track use the thermostat will be fully open whether its a 70 or 95 anyway.

How did you find out the sensor was dodgy? Did it show up on vag-com?
