  1. Owner of kevs is on the forum and has done some updates.
  2. Got my oil pump in bits at the moment if pics would help
  3. I might ask Vince to supply me one, or i'll go to the dealer again. The dealer supplied one was really good for ages, felt great when i 1st got it. I'm hoping it was/is release bearing related. Not sure what to do with gearbox. Not too easy to change, seen reconned ones on ebay for £495
  4. There was some law changed this year that allowed them to show more detail. Used to be that you could make out a 50cm object and now is 30cm. Going to check mine as didn't realise they had updated it already.
  5. Had a new vw one fitted at about 160,000miles. Starting having problems at 220,000miles. Had a rattle type noise that came and went at low speeds around town etc. I had noticed a slight knocking noise when cold started and left idling. Noise would go if I pressed clutch down. Also was getting notchy to go into gear and would have to push pedal down quite hard. So swapped clutch, bearing, and put a different gearbox on. All were used. Clutch was luk branded. Was ok for a while. Although juddered when pulling away. But now the rattle noise is back along with all the other symptoms. So thinking it wasn't gearbox. About to get a new clutch and going to get new slave cylinder as well. That's done the full 220,000miles now. Just looking on ebay and is lots of clutches and think the vw one was over £200. Are vw itmes a sachs clutch? Also notice a lot of uprated ones on there. Also black diamond clutches. Have heard that name before but can't remember if it was good or bad. I do seem to mistreat my clutch and wondered if something more heavy duty is worth while. Lots advertised as vr6 with g60 flywheel or gti turbo bits? Are they all vr6 compatible?
  6. Mine have been used for 220,000miles and hardly worn. Don't get how people make such a mess of them.
  7. I met Vicki Butler Henderson and her brother had one which she drove. ( i got one not too long after that) Seem to recall Gandalf the wizard (Ian McKellen) owning one that was on ebay.
  8. Think I'll phone vince next week then and get it started. Had a couple of grand saved up. But spent quite a chunk of that.
  9. Not to worried about ancillaries. Most of that I have bought new already and using or have a spare. I took oil pump apart and cleaned it all up. Looked in good condition to me. Has done over 200k though. Can much go wrong with the oil cooler? I have two of them in the garage. Might be a silly question but does the engine need to be in car and running for the remap? I'll be fitting engine myself. Didn't know if vince has the capability of running engine out of car
  10. Have been collecting bits for a while now and nearly got everything, just starting to consider getting someone else to assemble it all for me. I think I'd rather have the piece of mind that someone with experience has done it. Just bought that new 2.8 bottom end off ebay, decided to go for a 2.8 and use the 263 schimmel cams so probably won't notice any difference. I was thinking of getting Vince at stealth to do it, does this seem a reasonable request. What i have is: -New bottom end, no crank or rods -Vege recon head -INA lifters -ARP head studs -Head gasket kit -My old crank from the 2.9 (if i can get the pulley off and remove it from bottom end? any tips?) -My old con rods -New timing chains/guides etc Does Vince do balancing? Was told by a friend to get piston/rods/crank/flywheel and clutch plate balanced? Really i'm just looking for any bits i've not got and what other people might do at the same time. Got to get a new clutch kit and also know i need shell bearing is it?
  11. Do you know what make the springs are?
  12. I've always liked the fact they didn't have to cut vents in it or add body kit to create the top model. They all look pretty much the same. Doesn't happen these days.
  13. I bought one of the sets of brackets from Crazydave, have them sat at home, i also do CAD so could draw them up if required. I've been too busy doing other bits to sort out any fans yet.
  14. Broken mine at the moment, awaiting new engine, gearbox, clutch and timing chains
  15. They are great for people asking about them. Had mine 8yrs now and still like looking at it. Every time I have a problem and thing about selling. I wash it and decide I have to keep it. Even though is a little tatty recently.
  16. If you sorting the rust on the tailgate there its worth looking inside if you remove spoiler mech etc, mine had started to rust inside.
  17. Yeah they just bolt to the wishbone and unscrew from the end of the anti roll bar. Was the 1st thing that broke on mine. I'd soak it all in WD40 or plusgas the day before you plan to do it. It does help.
  18. If its the plastic one I pretty much snapped mine out in pieces. You get quite alot of rust holding it in. Try soaking the join in wd40 or plusgas is better. When fitting a new one try and clean the hole up with a dremel or sandpaper.
  19. I was going to do it all myself (maybe), i know a guy that's just done his own car and cost him about £400 iirc, i was only planning it to last a few years while i debate a respray.
  20. Looks really good, been thinking about having mine vinyl wrapped at some point, tempted by black.
  21. Think there is a seal where the column uj meets the splined bit on rack. But it would probably mean taking the rack out to fix or a new rack.
  22. Interested in the wings if they are late vr6 type and condition of them. Can collect as quite local.

My engine did over 200,000miles before the headgasket went, i took it apart and wasn't really that dirty inside, exhaust valves and pistons had the most carbon build up, but i couldn't see it harming performance that much.
