Booked into Stealth for head rebuild, chains & tensioners...
Jim Bowen replied to monzablau16v's topic in Engine Bay
i best get saving, has anyone here ever got a new engine from VW? -
i bought mine for £4k with 130,000, done 20,000 in it and not had any real engine issues, only a leaking theromostat which wasn't that expensive to fix i've still not had timing chains etc done
-
my oil temp is pretty much always 108-114? is it worth getting an oil cooler? its a 1995 VR6 and i have curly hair
-
i ordered mine from http://www.g-werks.com/ not sure where they deliver but my suspension came straight from Germany apparantely, so worth asking
-
if anyone if familar with that site, is this a list of what i need, i have ARB's and shocks/springs already? http://www.vwspares.co.uk/corrado.php i'm not sure which bits i need to order 2 of, or if they come as a set of two? 08052 Tie Rod LH x1 08051 Tie Rod RH x1 14428 Ball Joint Kit x2 09530 Wishbone LH x1 09531 Wishbone RH x1 14116 (01117) Strut Mount Kit x2 18358 Bumpstop x2 01367. Boot x2 14958 Strut Mount Kit x1 18362 Bumpstop x2 01172 Rubber Mount x2 I may not buy it from here, i'll see what VW prices it up at is there anything else i will need?
-
just checking out that AVS - FEBI site and the prices are alot better than VW, i went to VW on fri to get the boots, they were £18 each, on that site they are £4  is it worth getting the track rods and ends from there? is there much difference in quality?
-
car looks very nice idea, almost perfect in my eyes.....i';d be chuffed with that unlucky about the chain :( has inspired me to start getting more hands on with mine, maybe not anything engine wise tho

How the rich modify their cars
Jim Bowen replied to C. Will Corrado G60 2's topic in General Car Chat
i think this is better  The Wolfsburg edition Bentley continental VR6 GTR  [/ -
i was disappointed by this too, think i over estimated the VR6 before i bought one. still a very capable car, its just very smooth delivery. i think with all these modern turbo cars with 1 big whallop of power has made people forget about refined power
-
yes i ordered the other day over the phone, i only got the weitect suspension kit and an ARB, got so much else to replace i couldn't afford anything better at the moment anything is going to be better than having two broken shocks tho 8)
-
many thanks, that clears a few things up. is going to be a long day or 3 when i get round to fitting all these bits
-
Just a few quick questions, i won't natter on 1. Is a Track rod another name for tie rod or are they different things? 2. Does the rack have to be removed on a VR to fit the rods that go into it? 3.The manual i have mentions thread lock, and cleaning the thread out, is this reason for removing it? 4.Also there is mention of one adjustable rod and one fixed one when the car leaves factory, but you can't buy one of them, can't remember which? could this be what causes dodgy steering
-
and got a time for a full lap just curious really?

So how old do you have to be to look a 'little silly'....

Well if you are going to keep it you may as well look your best! Re People selling up, I dont think it helps that the Corrado is not that fast a car on the roads anymore. Yes its fast but my sisters Polo GT is faster real world than my VR6 with a 130 tdi engine in it :( So think a few people are looking for more power. Other thing as you mentioned is keeping them going! Not a cheap thing to run a 12 year old plus Corrado as we all know! lol Matt i don't believe that about the polo, surely a vr would waste it? -
does the gtv suffer from dodgy steering? if not i'd choose that
-
thats a good post :) i was about to ask most of the things you've covered. i'm thinking of renewing my track rods, do they come with the track rod ends when bought from VW? is this a hard job on a VR, i read that the rack has to be removed?
-
looks friggin' awesome, its threads like this that make me think my car is a bit poo!!!
-
i'm starting to worry now that my steering rack may need replacing. there is a clonk as you sit stationary and turn wheel left and right
-
yes.....i plan to get some photos gotta get all the bits together first so hopefully doing this within 4 weeks
-
i think i'll be ringing you when i'm back in the office then many thanks
-
if i'm having these track rods done, is there any mounts worth replacing on the engine or gearbox?
-
thanks for that help my list so far, Going to buy/check all these bits Up rated Front & rear shocks + Springs Up rated Rear Anti Roll Bar & mounting Front top mounts Rear top mounts Front Lower ball joints Track Rods (come with track rod ends) New Wishbones - i take it they come with the mountings? Rear Discs with bearings + Pads Front Discs + Pads
-
yes the steering is very weird at the moment, thats why i'm fed up and about to spend all my hard earned money sorting it out the garage told me a boot was split and a rear shock is leaking, and that the top mounts need doing. so i'm hoping to buy -full suspension kit & ARB's -Replace top mounts (are these front & rear)? -ball joints -was told get new wishbones as these have the bushes? bascially whatever can be renewed while car is in bits i'd rather do it now, so any suggestions i'm all up for hearing. i just need to get a definative list written up, then start sourcing all these bits. things like bushes etc, i don't even know how many, did just plan to go to the dealers and ask them while studying the diagrams
