Yeah, you can do, i used to find the original cap a nightmare to remove. Think that's the only main advantage of the mk4 tank.
-
All i meant was the plug on the Mk4 tank is different, so you need to change the end of the wiring that is attached to car. (if you go down the mk4 tank route)
-
Have you got the black flap on the side of it, behind there is a hole. Could just be the tank itself leaking, which is probably the best and cheapest outcome.
-
Worth looking at getting the Mk4 tank and lid, plus sensor, am sure it was actually cheaper than the corrado bits from VW. You won't need to drain the whole system.
-
I got these from there, Through Anna Only cost about £80-90 for the pair delivered, was real chuffed.
-
Hopefully its not pressurising and chucking it out the overflow, this is what happened to me when head gasket went. Again could be the black cap. Not too bad to change the header tank, you just need to empty the coolant out of it without needing to empty the whole system, its the highest point in the system. I'd just pull the pipe off the bottom of it and have some old rags/t-shirts under it to soak the water up.

About to fit my new downpipe and notice it doesn't come with a heat shield like the original. How important is it? The original one is pressed on so not easy to swap over? Should i wrap it with that cloth stuff?
-
I decided to buy some leads from techtonics in usa. Only because i was buying exhaust and wanted to make the order worthwhile. They look great quality think they did red. Might be a bit excessive though.
-
I did have a fuel smell from the car before i took it to bits. Not found anything obvious though. Can't see the length being much different. The corrados are all the same length and it runs from the bulkhead up to the back of car where the handbrake cable guides stick out.
-
Am in the process of renewing my fuel lines but decided against doing that blue pipe and the other one. I thought they have no chance of splitting. Might have to recheck them now. Have seen a few people replace them wuth kunifer/cupro nickel piping. All i did is replace the rubber bits with ptfe stuff.

Cheers, just looking back and nearly been a year so far. Going to try and have it done in the next 2 months. Finished making all the brake pipes now Was a bit of pain getting the rear lines done, hence some are a bit wobbly, the one sticking up in the air is for the front passenger brake, just stuck it out the way for now Stuck other heatshield on and now ready to stick exhaust, fuel tank and axle on. Should do it this weekend

I need to fit one of these as just removed the standard alarm system, which i guess means no more auto closure or remote locking.

I use this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/361291052468?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=108&chn=ps&device=c&rlsatarget=&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0-L&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=108&ff19=0 although not bothered putting it on for a long time, its quite thick so can take a while and a good brush to get it on, but out of all the ones i'd tried i found it the best so far. Heard some people just use WD40
-
Did you take immobiliser out as well?
-
Same here i use the Mann ones. I don't use opieoils if i can avoid them.
-
Some of the non-genuine tanks are crappy quality i'm told. For the extra £10 i'd rather go with the VW one, which i did....
-
Cheers, car is by no way mint condition nor as nice as others on here, but has got about 224,000miles on it now. Made the decision to keep it so just wanting to sort out mechanicals and stop any rust for now, Really needs a complete respray at some point. In hindsight i could of stripped it to a shell had it painted and rebuilt it, but couldn't afford the extra £2k+ Am hoping the underside and internal faces of bodywork are sorted out now, so in the future i can just get a simple external respray.
-
Ahh right. Think i got mixed up. I meant some bits that go on the side of the rad.
-
Did my cavity wax at the weekend, stuck it in most holes, front and rear of the chassis legs and did inside the the rear qtrs from inside the car. Thought i'd need more than 1ltr but seemed to go on forever
-
Don't think my car has ever had the rad air guides/cowling am not even sure what they look like. Might try and fit some if they are cheap enough and available. Have you got part numbers Roger?
-
There are some holes on the passenger side, if you take out glove box, the shelf below and pull the carpet back, the abs loom goes through there.
-
Where is the position sensor? Is it part of the servo?
-
I've got with the 15mm corrado pads. Think i had the thicker ones last time and something wasn't right. Someone else fitted them for me so i don't really know what was up
-
I tried but Anna was away and i didn't want to wait.

Looking very nice. I think its one of the top three colours.
