  1. In that case it could be input bearings,or the lash between the layshaft and diff crown wheel is fluctuating under load causing the noise, either way the box will need to be stripped down to have all the main bearings replaced, but if you have had no experience on boxes then its worth having it rebuilt by "pro's" Can you not find a used box?
  2. Hello Gary  your mk2 still makes me want one agian! good job as always
  3. any noise from the box that increases with speed and does not disappear if you put your foot on the clutch while at speed is going to be layshaft or more likely diff bearings,or is it wheel bearing?
  4. done.... :salute: I do think flash red is the best imop, its bright and bold, just up my steet! 8)
  5. stop kidding your self pete.you know for a fact if you missus gets a raddo you will be all over it like a rash and will be driving it/loving more than the bmw.......go on you know its true!
  6. I dont understand why the pump is faulty but you will only find answers when you take it apart and i cant imagine the intermidiate being damaged by only cranking it over?! chin up lad!
  7. very nice ! the red suits it well! 8)
  8. thats a kick right in the balls!!! but i understand you loosing that enthusiasm when it goes pete tong.. :( but it wont take that much to fix,do what i do,leave it well alone for a few month and come back to it all rejuvenated...just a thought mate.
  9. you will need to get it plugged into vagcom for fault codes, guessing is to costly, also abs is useless in the snow, find the fuse and leave it switched off!
  10. bet your well happy! so when the big day to fire up? :D
  11. they dont corrode at the same rate,it all varies on road conditions vehicle structure etc. Brake pipes are a grey area, you cant tell how far its corroded and how long it will last under pressure, the only sign is when all rust is removed is that the metal turns black so its either fail or pass and advise. If the mot tester is unhappy with the condition he will fail it and why would he rip you off there are far more easy item to change than a brake pipe. Also would you want to chance a brake pipe blowing when slowing down? I wouldn't ... :?
  12. or combine all that money spent with cams, inlet,ex etc on a supercharger for similar money's but allot moore hp and torque,... :)
  13. the brake light switch is a ratchet type...you pull the centre right out and once the brake pedel comes back up it self adjustes into the right position....worth a try
  14. The tyres on the car are in good condition but are of poor quality (they are made by a company called Triangle!). They were on the car when I bought it and I plan to change the wheels and tyres soon. I will try your suggestion of swaping over the wheels it does not matter how much tread is on the tyres,we have had good brand and brand new tyres cause all kinds of faults....and triangle....say no more :gag:
  15. 4mo...naaa its an old mans car  and i just dont dig the MK4 golf,if it had to be a golf then R32 for me but out of my price range :( S3 has best of both worlds, tunable and has all the toys, but im going to try very very hard to keep the raddo and have a S3 for a daily!!! I would love to have another project but i have no space or money for one :( so it will have to be a daily that i can have fun in....you see i run a m reg 5 door green shi*ron diesel for a daily......it makes me cranky! :bad-words: Thanks Hasan :D Its the encouragement of the forum that gets me back on track.....for a short time before i fall into relapse! I just need the 4wd and im there and as i need to keep busy with the raddo it *might* happen,my mate has a 325hp S3 and the raddo makes it look slow...so it would need to have allot more HP to keep me happy and that wont come cheap i suspect  oh and on another thing i cant be arsed with...............is back to work tomorrow aaaaaggghhhhh :censored:
  16. The lower ball joint on the VR is offset forwards or backwards can't remember which way, the 4 studs are centrally placed. Sorry im not picking faults just curious, but cant you just fit vr lower ball joint with the vr knuckle?
  17. you made a good job of them wheels.. :salute: when i had my polished comps i found them a pain to keep shiny all the time :mad2: still worth it tho!
