  1. CaiosG60 PWR, I used to be able to do a clutch on a Camper in under 40 minutes... that's from the customer driving it in, to driving it away again... 8) They used to be amazed that as they went off with the boss to pay, by the time they got back we'd got the engine out, old clutch off and were fitting the new clutch! 8)
  2. oh, I forgot about my main expense this year... 3 weeks in New Zealand! Can't wait... only 10 days 'til I get the hell outta this country! 8)
  3. PhatVR6, is that a Bosch beesting style one? 'cos I've one of those on H-YYU... great bit of kit... 8)

    Jokers

When I crashed J-DUB, I paid for the recovery truck to drop the car at my house and put it into my garage as I knew that once it went into their yard, I'd not get it all back again... (brembo brakes that come off with 4 bolts, TV system just sat there, leather interior etc etc etc... ) Their first offer was around what they've offered you... And I was supposed to have an agreed value policy which they wormed their way out of... I sent them copies of all my receipts (all £10K + of 'em ) and a load of print outs from Autotrader, here and Dubforce.net of cars for sale. I also pointed them to this forum to have a look at my Gallery thread so they could see the kind of work that had been put into it. I eventually got £3.5K out of them and got to buy the car back from them for £600... It cost me about £150 in recovery charges, but I'm claiming that back as I'm taking the matter to court as the person who pulled out in front of me wrote a statement which is utter fabrication and had forgotten that I've got photos of the scene a couple of minutes after the accident happened that prove that she's talking crap! Keep fighting the ba$tards... if they think you're gonna roll over and take it, then they'll shaft you as much as they can... kick up a fuss, make sure you get them to have to write as many letters and the like as possible and suddenly they'll realise that it's costing them money and will start talking sensible numbers... ;) 8) I'm also considering calling in the ombudsman about their engineer who inspected the car and declaired it a write off... he has stated that it needs a LOT of work, where I've now stripped off all the bent bits and found that half of what he said needed replacing 'cos it was bent ISN'T... Good luck! 8)
  5. COOL! Wish I had the space/time to do one of these up again... 8) Right, you NEED to do a google search for "Alan H Schofield" and find his contact details. He makes repair panels and can source original panels for bay window and splitties too... 8) They're spot on fit wise and aren't stupidly priced either... 8) Any help you need, just drop me a line... it's been a while since I've played with a Bay, but after doing one, there's bits you just don't ever forget... :| You NEED to get hold of Porsche Apart up in Bolton too... Get a set of late 944 turbo rear calipers (around £70) and some 300mm disks and suddenly you've got a camper with 4pot Brembo/porsche brakes which actually STOPS! 8) What are your plans for it? There's soooooo much you can do to these things it's untrue... The engines are a doddle to work on too, once you've done it a couple of times, dropping the engine out in under 30mins isn't difficult!  Good luck! 8)
  6. deffo not convinced... where's the passenger door gone?!? That bike would have had to be doing one hell of a speed to be able to put the door through the frame, across the car and into the rear... especially 'cos the striker pin is still intact...
  7. Slimbo, next time, slip some fishing wire behind the plate and use it like a rope saw... you'll have the plate off with no damage in a few moments... ;)
  8. andy, oooh, I'll remember that... good info mate... 8)

    wheel bearings

inner and outer... they need pressing in, although you can do it with a correctly sized socket, a block of wood and a mallet... It's normally easier to replace the rear disks at the same time 'cos knocking the old runners out is a bit of a git to do...
  10. umm... the first car I owned and drove legally on the roads was my MKI Golf GTI when I was 18... 8)
  11. put it this way, it's not going to hurt to have the ignition on... ;)
  12. ok, to get back to the main topic... Prices below are typical for what they go for, not what I think they're worth... ;) Engine + box + shifter + engine loom + Ecu = £1500 all day long on ebay Leather interior = £450 to £700 if in good nick, or £1000 if it's a recaro interior. Body panels = £50 to £100 depending on demand and style Front brakes = £80 to £150 dependant on how good the disks are Rear callipers = £30 to £50 per pair if they're in good nick, more if they're MKIII or MKIV versions. Then you've got all the other odds and sods, like black plastic interior trim which it may or may not have... If you can't get more than £2000 for the big bits, you've done something seriously wrong! ;) Age wise, the front Wings/bonnet/bumpers could be early or late on a G60 depending on the age of the car... have a look at the bonnet and bumpers which will normally give away if it's early or late (early bonnet ---___--- rather than __---__ in profile, early bumpers have a trim line which curves up over the top at the wheel arches where late ones it just fades out in a straight line). Recessed fogs and indicators are also a reasonable sign of an early car, but this can be changed easily enough so isn't gospel... Hope this helps... 8)
  13. coolant temp sensor and Lambda would be my first things to check... ;) Starter and alternator are rather unlikely culprits for what you describe... 8)
  14. mrbeige, NO. don't use DOT 5.... DOT 5.1 IS Ok to use though... They are VERY different fluids even though they have a similar name... DOT5 is silicone based and will eat the seals inside your hydraulic system resulting in probable brake failure (not good!) DOT5.1 IS safe to use in normal DOT3 or DOT4 systems as it's not silicone based... It really is a silly naming convention and is based on the properties of the fluid rather than what the fluid is for... Someone needs to make up a decent naming convention for these fluids to prevent problems occurring... :| The rest of what you say is right though... 8) RW1, it's interesting what you say about not needing the ignition on when bleeding the UK spec ABS... mine definately felt better after I bled it with the ignition on... :|

    Schrick mods

Meh... I was bored, knew what the info was and Madjackal asked nicely... 8) Glad it's helped some people understand a few more bits... :) 8)
  16. ah, Flux would have beaten John's quote (part of their policy is that they'll beat ANY quote) but I've had enough of being messed about with their agreed policy which turned out to be me paying them £200 extra for them to turn round and say I'd not filled the form in when I actually did (sadly) have to use the policy...
  17. erm, guys, if it's on Vortex it'll be for LHD cars only! The heel pad will be in the wrong place and the fittings around the front foot wells will all be wrong...
  18. *EDIT* ignore the following info, I was wrong! AFAIK, the actual roof mechanism is the same on ALL Corrados, it's only the motor which varied... Even the hand cranked roofs were the same mechanism.... :|
  19. potatonet, I found that on J-DUB... the fan is the bit which has the resistor packs in it for the multi-speed, not the power feed. As you say, all pins on the fan expect 12V (except the earth! ) so if they're only getting 9.8V, shove in a pair of relays to give it a nice new healthy 14V of power and suddenly your temps will drop a good few degrees! 8)
  20. if it's a PG engine number it is, as Jim says, 1781 If it's a 1H engine number it's 1776... 8)
  21. on saturday I fought with the lambda sensor for about 8 hours... it's now got a nice new Bosch one fitted... 8)
  22. Also got a MKI GTI (that's been in bits for 7 years  ) A MKII Golf Driver (that's currently sat in my back garden waiting for me to get my arse in gear and sell it) My G60 - J-DUB - which is about to get a TDI conversion and my daily driver G60 - H-YYU - which now has a 1940cc somewhat played with G60 engine in her... 8)
  23. Well, John over at Brentacre has just saved me £400 on my renewal... 8) Bye-bye Flux... 8)
