  1. :iamwithstupid: I'll echo what Gav just said... 8)
  2. dinkus, only upto a point... once you get above a certain number of grooves you simply end up with a thinner disk! ;)
  3. the Halfords Pro stuff is made by Sykes-Pickavant and is good stuff, a little agricultural at times, but should hold up well with age, and with a lifetime guarantee, why spend more? 8)
  4. g-man, ohhh. you've sussed out what it's from then? 8)

    Dodgy Steering

sounds to me like they may have damaged one of the P/S pipes on the rack... Their description on how to change the clutch is about right, but 3 days is taking the p1ss... I've done one in a day in my back garden on axle stands and have done one in about 3.5 hours in a properly equipped garage on a 2 post lift... :|
  6. it's very possible and should be safe as long as the tyre's not damaged in any way... 8) I've swapped the set of Yoko A539's that are on H-YYU between 3 sets of wheels now with no problems... 8)
  7. Roger Blassberg, yeah, I hear you there... 8) One of the managers here was taking the p1ss until his Golf GTTDI's air con died and VAG wanted a silly amount to sort it out... in three weeks time... a quick phone call to a guy I know and about 3 hours later a van arrived at work, fixed the air-con, charged him a third of what VAG wanted and left... He's not taken the p1ss since... Can't wait 'til I take him out in H-YYU, that's make him open his eyes 'cos he reckons his GTTDI is faster than my G60...

    Electric windows thump

all 3 of the corrados I've had have done this if the window is sent all the way down in one go... I've never worried about it... 8)
  10. 'lo, you called? Welcome to The Forum DANG60, you've got a cracker of a car there... 8) I know of 2 decent 1900 conversions that I'd recommend, G-werks' 1871cc (83mm overbore conversion) or JMR's 1940cc conversion (83mm overbore + longer throw crank) I've got one of John's 1940cc conversions which is somewhat more expensive than Darren's piston swap due to needing a different crankshaft too. BOTH are top notch using quality parts and both give some impressive results. In the end, it's a question of budget and who you want to deal with... You can contact either Darren (G-man on this forum) or John (16VG60 on this forum) by sending a PM to them from this very forum... 8)
  11. I did... still not looked back... 8)
  12. tend to flash/wave at other 'rados... normally get a response too... 8)
  13. people at work here used to take the p1ss until I showed 'em the videos of J-DUB at Santa pod and curborough and they saw the suntans I kept coming back from shows with last year! I took one lass out in the car 'cos she didn't think I'd done as much work to it as I said I had and she soon shut up! (this was before I was seeing my missus... 8) ) People at work don't say a lot about it now, but they know that if they scratch or dent it, they'll damn well know about it and be paying for the repair one way or another!

the reason that letters are more effective then phone calls is 'cos they have to write back to a letter which costs them upto £50 per letter, where a phone call costs 'em practically bugger all... ;)
  15. Eye, that's the bugger... 8) Good ain't they... 8)
  16. OK, I think the confusion here is coming from the term "stage 4" This is just a name for a level of porting that is done. Not everyone uses the same names for the stuff they do... There's normally 3 levels of work that places do: 1) rebuild including new seals and new bearings (although some places don't actually replace all the bearings unless they appear to need replacing  ) 2) Some porting and gas flowing with a rebuild as above 3) Heavy porting and gas flowing to get the absolute max out of your charger and then a rebuild as in level 1 Level 1 will give you a charger that's pretty much as good as new, level 2 will have reduced internal pressures which can result in it producing slightly more boost than standard and running cooler and thus more efficiently. Level 3 will run even lower internal pressures and be able to provide even more air flow to give even better engine power... The parts used are normally the same in all 3... the difference is the cost of the labour and experience to be able to successfully port and gasflow a charger without screwing it up permanently! 8) Me? My charger's currently a G-Werks stage4 (level2), but my spare is likely to become a Full blend (level3) shortly as Darren has it at the moment and is gonna let me know how good/bad it is... 8)
  17. Phil, doing 3 days in LA, then 16 days driving from north NZ to south NZ and then onto Fiji where we get onto a helicopter to take us to a little island for 4 days with no more than 42 guests with 38 staff and NO under 12s! 8) Reckon it's gonna work out about double what you spent each, but it's sooooo gonna be a good holiday 'cos it's 4* and above all the way... ! I'll make a note of those place names... Ta! 8) Aiming to do THE bungie jump off the bridge, white water rafting, jet boating and Zorbing while we're there... gotta make it worth it... Oh, and to keep this on topic, I've just received something from another one of my hole burning activities... A Fuji S7000 digital camera with 1Gb microdrive... 8) I've been hankering after one similar for ages and this holiday deserves some good photos taking! 8)

golfg60, yeah, to be honest, I can't fault 'em for service, they were always helpful, friendly and good on the phone, but the solicitors they've given me are hopeless (lost all the documents, statements and photos TWICE now...) and have been dragging their heels somewhat... the accident was oct28th and I still haven't got my excess, hire car costs, and other things I lost paid for... The only reason I didn't get the courtesy car is 'cos it's likely to come out as a 50/50 claim 'cos there were no witnesses and the third party is saying that it was entirely my fault even though she pulled out in front of me... The only reason I've not gone back with them is that they messed me about with the agreed value and their renewal quote was a flipping joke... I know they'll beat any price, but when their renewal is over £400 over what my first other quote is, then sod 'em... joebloggsVR69, if you've got an agreed value policy with them, phone 'em up and get someone to tell you that the form and all the details, valuations etc are spot on and that they are happy that it's all pukka... make a note of their name and get a contact number if possible and jot down the time and date that you had the conversation where they agreed it's all OK... That way you're utterly covered and there's no way that they can screw you about... ;) 8)
  19. no need to apologise mate! 8) Not everyone knows about some of the older threads on here and it's soooo easy to not spot that a thread was started in 2003 (or even earlier!) In fact, this thread's been on the forum longer than I've been a user here...
  20. woah, one year, one month and 16 days... That's gotta be a record for resurrection on here! Daz has since broken that Corrado. I'm pretty certain that he now uses custom made intercoolers instead of the sprinter one so that they can be DIY fitted... He'll probably be along soon to correct me (as usual! 8) )
  21. :iamwithstupid: Yup, I'm with Rodders here... Once one part goes then it can be a chain reaction with the rest of the bits... You remove the weak link when the first pipe is replaced, from then on each bit you replace adds more stress onto the other old parts... when it's running and warm, is the top hose on the radiator rock solid, or has it got some give in it? If it's rock solid then there may be a problem, otherwise :iamwithstupid: (man, I love that smiley! )
  22. Critical_Mass, erm, that's like saying that every time you service a watch it won't tell the time as accurately afterwards... the mechanic is talking balls... There IS a life expectancy on the number of rebuilds you can do as you have to press bearings in and out of housings which is gonna wear the housing slightly, however, if it's done properly, you're looking at 10 to 20 times before it gets to a point that there's a noticable difference in the housing which should be 300,000 to 600,000 miles worth of rebuilds working on an average of 30K miles per rebuild... Don't think there's a car on here with that kinda milage on it!

I was insured with Flux... I'm now (much happier) with Brentacre... golfg60, they didn't pay out 'cos the form apparently wasn't fully filled in... I wouldn't mind, but they'd had the form 6 sodding months before the accident... right waste of money that was.... won't be doing that again... The more you hassle them in writing, the more it costs them to reply... ;)
  24. if it's a G60, check that the idle switch is being pressed by the throttle linkage... sounds very much like what mine was doing when I forgot to plug the wiring to the switches in after a rebuild...
  25. worked on = getting the charger ported and gasflowed so that it can produce as much boost as possible... 8)
