ah, that's fair enough then... 8)

I can't even say that Kev!

The toothed belt conversion also boosts low down torque as well as pick up as the belt has no way to slip at all as you boot it, so gives you instant boost and response... 8) It's WELL worth doing... ;) 8)

Well I live and learn... I wouldn't have guessed at that 'cos of the angle of the bonnet/wings etc... I stand corrected... 8) Are you ever actually gonna drive this C of yours, or are you just gonna take it around the block a few times to make sure it works, and then change something else major on it! ;) 8)

been to the motorshow trade day today... The NEW Seat Ibiza Cupra sport has 5x100 16" rims on it with Seat badged 4pot calipers on it now! ;) 8) This may well be the answer that all of you VR6 guys have been waiting for.... 8)
-
yup, they're available... 8) I got my Goodridge ones from Awesome GTI when I got my Corrado as they are only just up the road from me... I'm pretty certain that C&R in Nottingham do them as well though... 8)
-
Yeah, I know that the spring rate doesn't change (that's kinda the point of coil overs as I know you are well aware 8) ) but the shocks DO get harder the closer to the end of the travel they get...
-
AFAIK, they don't offer any performance increase, but they look nicer and are a totally different design and so shouldn't seize up like the MKII based ones do... Oh, and they're alloy, so they're slightly lighter...
-
there's also a straight MKIV caliper swap for the rears which uses the original spec disks and pads, Joe M... That's what I run on the rear of my C... Grim? you have PM.... ;)

Tjhe MKII golf's engine bay has more height clearance than a Corrado... If you look at the clearance on a VR engine with the Bonnet, there's only a few mm clearance... If the R32 engine is ANY taller (and I'm not saying it is, 'cos I really haven't a clue here) then it probably will foul on the Corrado's bonnet... :|

yeah, but your car is sat on 17 and is on the ground Chris.... It looked well lower than mine at Inters and I'm on the same suspension setup only not as low... 8) Remember, the lower you go, the harder the ride/damping HAS to be else you'll bottom out all over the place! :| At around 35 to 40mm lower than standard, the supersports are pretty good ride wise... a little harder than some people will like, but for £400, I can't complain... 8)

I'm up for a rolling road session, as long as I've finally got my chip written... ;)

Beejeeeesssuuusssssss!!! What speed were you doing in that drive thru Steve?!? How much of that lot was bent, and how much did you just pull off 'cos you were undoing bolts to see what fell off?!? ;) Hope it goes back together as "easily" as it's seemed to come apart! 8) Good luck mate... 8)

I've not got that much written data on the KR engine, I just tend to be able to take a damned good guess at the problems with 'em 'cos my old MKI Golf 16V was a shed when I first built it and had most of the problems you could have! :| See if you can pick up a Haynes manual for an 88 to 91 Passat (big pink book!) which has a lot of details in it for the KR engine.... that's where I learnt most of my KR stuff from when I was fitting my MKI golf with the 16V engine... 8) The oil in the dizzy problem sounds like quite a plausable reason for the problem... the seals on 'em are known to fail after a few years resulting in oil leaking into the dizzy cap area which could well stop a spark from being fired properly as nzgti suggests... I'd also check the earth strap from the battery to the block (via the chassis) as this can oxidise and gives a higher resistance (and thus a worse spark) when damp AND oxidised but this won't be used as much if you bump start the car as the Alternator will be providing some of the juice to fire the engine up... If it'll bump start (crash start to you!) every time with no problems, and the earth strap is OK, then I'd be tempted to get the injectors cleaned... it could well be that you've got one that's not quite opening enough until it gets warm, so it won't start off the starter onto 3 cylinders, but will bump onto them and then get the pressure up enough to open the 4th one... Dunno about that one, just doesn't ring right in my head, but may be worth looking into... :? You may also be onto something with the fuel pressure regulator... it's possible that this has gone tits up and thinks that the engine is permanently hot so isn't opening the choke as you suggest... I'm not too sure on why this would allow the car to bump start, but not start off the key, but it may be worth you getting hold of an Audi 80 or 100 one from a local scrap yard and trying that to see if it's any better... Kev may have some better ideas... it's been a few years since I played with a KR block in anger! ;)

 humm, wonder what I need to sell to get one of those... (without needing surgery! )

Pinking (Sorry I know it's an old topic)
Henny replied to C. Will Corrado G60 2's topic in Engine Bay
As Daz says, the torque that the knock sensor it tightened to is CRITICAL to the correct opperation of the knock sensor.... Too tight, and it'll always detect knocks even when it's not knocking, too loose and it'll never detect 'em... :| Also, it's worth checking the wire FROM the multiplug that the knock sensor plugs into (not the one that is part of the knock sensor, the one it plugs into! ;) ) as I've noticed a couple of these recently where the insulation and general condition is pretty poor, which would not help the knock sensor work at all... :| dr_mat, the ECU on a G60 can only retard the ignition a certain amount... if you are running with the ignition advanced so far that the ECU is ALWAYS draggin the timing back, it's VERY easy to over-run that amount and end up with pinking... C. Will Corrado G60 2, Make sure that you have the timing set to around 6deg BTDC on 1 with the blue temp sensor disconnected... the muppet who did my timing for me just after I built my engine didn't disconnect the sensor and the timing was WAY out!  -
DO NOT USE WD40 ON IT! WD40 is sooo thin it'll wash off any grease/oil that's on the mechanism and will cause it to bind up and blow the fuse... :| Open up the boot, remove the cover on the inside of the lid, and open up the mechanism and spray it with white grease... White grease contains PTFE which will coat the moving parts with a nice low friction material which will help the mechanism move, not hinder it like WD eventually does... :|
-
nope, the ball joint is the mount at the bottom of the strut which bolts/rivets onto the end of the front suspension arm. Trackrod joints are just known as trackrod ends... 8)

*cough* it's HenNy *cough* Dunno if anyone's fitted the Leon brembo kit yet... I've got a G60 and have never had a VR so I don't know too much about them... :? I do know that the Leon's are 5x100 pcd, and are a similar design and I'm pretty sure that Bill at Badger5 sells the kit The important measurement of the wheel isn't just the offset (although this is important! ;) ) it's the clearance on the spokes by the rim... IE, if they fold back into the rim, they may not clear the caliper.... :|

Dot 5.1 is compatable with all dot 4 brake fluids so there's no problem with mixing them... The only thing which will happen is that you won't get the benefit of the full temp resistance from the DOT5.1, so be careful not to hammer the brakes too much until you get it bled through properly... 8) Dot 5.1 also is not hydroscopic (ie it doesn't absorb water like dot 4) so, in theory, it should last longer too... 8) Oh, and most GOOD car parts shops sell it, including Halfords... 8) Just make sure you get 5.1 NOT 5 as 5 is silicone based and will rot the seals inside your brake components!

that was my guess... 8) Lovely colour... 8)

Welcome to the forum... 8) Looks like a nice one... is it very dark blue or black, difficult to tell in that photo...
-
quite a few of us (noticably Kevhaywire ;) ) have done this with a lot of the jobs on their cars... It's something I'll do on any bits I do to my car that I feel other people may need to know how to do... 8)

I see plenty of use of the "oh sh!t" handle by the passengers in those photos... 8) Great photography there... looks like you were all enjoying yourselves! 8)
