easypops replied to Jim's topic in Drivetrain
Water pump is about there Jim, how is your temp, heaters etc? -
Just unplug it and leave it like that , mine was unplugged for years and always started hot or cold
-
£998 !!!............i do remember having to take the old one off......but i didn't pay anything like that!.........i'm saying it was less than £200 when i got one as i know for sure i wouldn't have paid more lol............£998!!!!!!!!!:bonk::epicfail::shock::shocked!::cuckoo:
-
I replaced mine on the old valver and it was less than £200........not sure the exact cost and that was 5+ years ago...........thinking about it i might have a spare one in the garage in my box of valver spares(not the old removed one) , one i bought as part of a job lot of spares iirc..........i'll dig it out if you like and take a couple of pics.............i know you have one arranged so you can let me know :)
-
My old valver had a faulty csi........constantly fuelling(so i was told by a vw specialist garage)........unplugged it and it stayed like that for years with no adverse effects :)
-
Well done so far mate
-
Its on the throttle body, its the electrical part.......here(i hope) is a pic of where the plug is:thumbleft:
-
I'd agree with Roan, i drove through a massive puddle before i took the car off the road and it started behaving just like you described , popped the bonnet and had a good wee light show at the coil pack(now replaced and ready for the road in 2 weeks :) )
-
Thats a bargain.........even if it had no engine lol
-
Good to hear its going better mate......when are you away on your trip?
-
Nice one Tom.......I've been waiting for this thread to appear and as expected your cracking on at a good pace already
-
It does, clipped onto the throttle body, called a throttle potentiometer when i bought one, bad wiring on this caused my bad idle/poor running for ages until i found 2 of the 3 wires had burst at the plug, the plastic covering was ok though, the wires had burst inside

Nice part of the country Ray :shades:
-
I knew i'd be corrected somewhere..........its all the same to us city dwellers  ................didn't get a look at that other thing yet jamie, got in late then up early...........will do it tonight :thumbleft:
-

My old onewas behind the glovebox......and my newer toad is there too :)
-
I had the 5th injector unplugged for about 4 years after it was diagnosed as faulty.......still started first time every time cold or not.......if it was me i'd just unplug it to see if it makes any difference, cant do any harm
-
The 5th injector is at the end of this fuel pipe......should be a blue plug on it
-
Could maybe be your 5th injector?..........which only gets used when its cold......puts in extra fuel until engine warms up (as far as i'm aware)...........my old valver had a faulty one which just kept fueling.......unplugged the power from it and all was well............ I'm sure someone with proper knowledge will be along soon. Good Luck mate
-
Looks superb in the photos mate.......really shiney :shades:
-
I swapped mine over last week.......did it with 2 people..........quite straightforward, although when i closed the newly fitted one the bonnet jammed shut as the spring locator things were in a slightly different position.......had to ease(break) the grill out to get at the cable.........so i'd suggest, if your fitting a different one take the grill off before you close it......if its the same one going back on then its a doddle :)
-
I was wondering that too........just thought i'd join in lol :shades:
-
Happy Birthday auld yin :)
-
Advanced Search at top right of page........type 2.0 16v idle into the search .........and read
-
Not sure if you have done this?........not sure personally how good it is but i remember one of the guru's on here writing about how important it is to do this procedure http://wiki.the-corrado.net/vr6_ecu_reset_procedure.html I've not needed to do as yet but plan to once i bring the c out of hibernation
