Lucky number 7 - sold but 911 in its place

I managed to get the 288's on today. Took a while as the nut on the near side pipe rounded off but luckily I had a set of replacement front hardlines in the garage already. All bled (inc m/c) and getting the usual spongy pedal that most folks get. Took the car up and down the lane and still feel a bit iffy but I'll leave it and bleed again tomorrow. Put the RC's on with the centre caps. Was hoping for a kind of motorsport look, I think they look okay. -
I would take it for a good old italian tune up if it were me!!!

When was the last time it had a good proper long blast?

Basically thats the process but I didnt use filler. I could have done that but in all honesty these (as is most of it now) worked on when I had the spare odd minute. They are not great close up but good enough for what Im using them for. Couple of coats of primer, sand, some wheel silver paint, sand, top coat of satin silver, light sand, 3-4 coats of lacquer. They all balanced up well which is the main thing for me plus they are reasonably light. -
Possible Scottish Meet Sat 20th July - Knockhill

Okay, little update on numbers. If your going please add to the list. Ive booked on the trackday, there is half days if people dont want to do too much but with it being open pit its normally fairly relaxed. I might see if I can persuade the missus to bring the Audi along as well so I can try that on track. 1. Coullstar 2. BillCor 3. Kirade 4. Seafar99 5. ray_VR6 6. clumpy1 7. Elliot -

A little progress, stripped the 288's to change out seals and the pistons were not the best so two new pistons ordered and put in place last night. Calipers dont look great cosmetically but this isnt going to be a show car and I'll sort that out later as I need them fitted. Secured some braided hoses from a mate as well. Should get this all fitted at the weekend assuming the hardline disconnect okay. Plusgas and Ezibleed at the ready!! Also gave the RC's a quick refurb. Managed to do it with the tins I had lying about from other projects. Not perfect but again good enough for now. 4 Pirelli PZero Nero's fitted as well. Runnig them without the main centre caps as I have some small ones to fit into the small centrebore. Car should be ready for MOT next week but I'll probably leave it until June to get it back out. -
Yeah I could be in for that.

Im pretty sure the CAT itself is what will reduce the tinny noise so wrapping it wont really do anything.

I can put this on AudiSRS (basically B5 RS4 forum) but its probably best to check with the company first if there okay with that. -

Maybe interested for the RS. -
I believe the Rallye uses the the Syncro system. Rallye is just a model of Mk2 so the system is called syncro. I personally wouldnt go 4wd unless I was looking at some very high power (500bhp+) but then you can just size the turbo right or get it mapped to help with power delivery with progressive boost control.
-
Handling is better with the Corrado. I'll be honest it would take a lot for me to got back from the RS4 but (no offence here) not as much from an S4. Value for money the Corrado is very good and its easy to work on, especially with the turbo position. When I replaced things I tried to use bits that would last as in the long run it made sesnse. I think the fact that is was a brand new lower end helped a lot. I wish I had managed to get a dry track day as Im sure it would have kept up with some serious machinery. I realise its quite a distance and a big step though.

VW Corrado takes on the new RS6 - Autobahn :)

Nope, very few encounters which was frustrating. I dont think there would be a lot on it with my RS4, the Corrado had roughly 370bhp the RS has 470bhp. Totally different cars. Feel safer doing it in the Audi mind you, well I will when I get me bigger calipers fitted. -
I saw you were asking about it on ed38. Its hard one to be fair. I still feel like I miss the car even now I have my RS to play with. It is a very well sorted car but you must keep on top of it. Mechanically I dont think it will want for anything but I have not seen the car since I sold it. I know the guy looks after it and is still a VW tech. Body wise there was some minor chipping to the rear edge of the arches when I sold it but apart from that it was very good. Wheels were a little scuffed in places but thats about it. Only thing I would have changed was the clutch which I think Caol has done. Its worth the money all day long IMO. Very different car from the S4 but performance wise there wouldnt be a lot in it. This would definitely feel faster and have you laughing a lot more. I was very very close to buying it back and would have if I didnt have the RS4. Coming from the S4 to this you will have the ideas on what to watch for and this has all the necessary gauges to do so.

Im not really clued up on what would be required for the haldex sensors TBH. I know what you mean but remember Haldex is not a true 4wd system either like the older Quattro. I'll be honest I never felt like I really needed 4wd in my VRT, it only had a Pelequin diff. If I had fitted the Traction control I reckon it would have been a hell of a lot better. Try and look for PhatVR6's old thread as he fitted the syncro to a Corrado with VR / R32 and IIRC he couldnt get is set up right. Also fitting all that will add weight and possibly upset the balance of the car. I like that your entertaining the idea, if it were me its just the reality of it that I would consider.
-
First thing that I would say is that do you really need this? Are you doing this because of traction issues? If so try the LSD, Racelogic Traction control, sticky tyres first. I was speaking to a freind the other night who has a VR6T Rallye using std syncro and a Gemini 6 speed box. We were speaking about Haldex etc and he was saying that its easy to bolt this in but to get it working right is hard as the Haldex controller uses so many sensor inputs that to get it working like VW intended you would need to retrofit them. (yaw sensers etc.) Sounds like if your going 4wd use syncro platform plus it keeps it period. Funnily enough he has spoken to the guy Dutchdub about it and they managed to speak to the guy who wrote the software for the Haldex controller on this. Sadly he couldnt really say much due to IP.

Looking for a set of good 288mm calipers pistons or calipers. Just removed the ones I have and they are goosed.
-
I believe it is, arches are made for the CH's as well. Thats my old car by the way. Hell you could buy it and swap everything over then sell it on with your standard VR running gear and it would probably only cost about £3k all in. Would be a shame to do that though.
-
Doesnt look that bad, he does state it needs some TLC. Starting price is lowish as well, better than some in the same state that are asking twice as much.
-
Imagine what its like with a 3.68FD as well. Mine would go off the clock with ease. I remember one evening I was in 5th going along at 80ish and just put the foot down, the car just pulled and pulled all the way of the clock in a very short distance with no fuss. One thing to through into the mix is how long to you think you would keep the car? I was lucky an pretty much sold my car for what it cost but it could take a long while to sell. A standardish VR is much easier to sell as is any fairly standard car.
-
I have that on mine and Id never seen one before. Its just a push/slide fit from the battery side. A little fiddly but nothing to bad.

Good work, looks like a nice garage for it.
