One of the guys did the best ever whip Ive seen in the morning. I was convinced he was going bin it but pulled it back. Must have been busy as hell yesterday as I noticed a big difference between Friday and Saturday.

It took us a day and a half to see the entire show and the access to the cars is perfect. No barriers and you can get in and speak with the mechanics / drivers. I hate to imagine how much money was sitting in that place over the weekend. There was everything from Type 35 Buggati's to the LeMans winning Audi, still bug splattered as well. Hada few drinks in the pub at night and sittings a few feet away were the like of Steve Soper, Bernt Schnider and Adrain Newey. Highlights for me were the rally cars and finally seeing a works Martini Integrale in action and the McClaren F1 GTR. I also met Hannou Mikila who was driving the Audi S1 up the hill. The turbos on the Indy cars were huge!!! Some photos below and a link to all my photos. I only took photos of half the cars that were there. Glen your scene idea of an external roll cage has been done on an 037 Wing big enough sir? Turbo!! Double exhaust housing, thats how the ran them as well i.e. open on both sides. Nice 205 but sadly it never ran. Mk1 16s Bruce Willis? Expensive Ferrari that needed a helping hand Some rather agricultural rear suspension on a 24litre Napier. password is Goodwood. http://s821.photobucket.com/albums/zz139/coullster2/Goodwood/

Great cars these. Loved my Mk5 Gti. -
Is it still running ok and using the same amount of fuel as before? Does sound like it could be faulty lambda making it run rich. Is it like this vid 1m10sec in?

Good to hear. Its probably somewhere in the thread but what are the power /torque figures generally like for these engines? I remember the Ltd Golf was around 210bhp. -
Thanks, Im most looking forward to the Rally stage if Im honest and the bike collection.

Thought Id bring this back up. Leaving tomorrow morning for another road trip down. We are camping next to the show as we couldnt get anywhere close by. Tickets or Fri and Sat. Cannot wait, let hope the weather stays good but dare I say it not has hot as last Sunday.

Good to meet you on Sunday. Car was spotless.

Thats me just in the door!! Almost 1000miles done over the weekend and not one bit of trouble from the car despite 8 runs and a few high speed blasts on the trip. First time Ive done 1/4mile in about 13 years. Couldnt get the hang of launching it and was bogging down then getting too much wheel spin in 2nd. As soon as it was in 3rd it flew. No TC fitted on mine and a hungover scotsman in that sort heat is not the most responsive of people. I only saw one other C doing the 1/4 miles and that was the blue one with R32 turbo and 4wd. Im sure it was an 11.99 run which is mighty impressive. Went up the strip in my mates 335d touring, mighty impressive machine and embarresed a few cars with it. Id go again but if only for the crack that our group had. Im shattered!!!!

Yeah it was a decent day yestareday. Weather wasnt too bad. I did a few sprints and if you do the handling course watch out for tyre wear, its mental!!! Gods knows how but I managed to win my class yesterday in the sprint so I'm leaving with some sort of trophy. Hopefully see a few see a few more folks today as it was very quiet yesterday on the stand.
-
Well thats me down. Staying in Lutterworth. Cars all fly spattered but its staying that way. Hopefully see some folks tomorrow.

Some nice photos. Whats the new track like there?
-
Ah missed the bit about doing it for a mile or so. Yeah mine only had a slight puff and has never done it since. You dont want to see this!!

Good cars these. 150 issues are not that common and its more to do with the cam followers wearing. For the PD Tdi's the flywheel and clutch is an expensive item to replace so try to get one thats been done. Other things are the usual timing belt and water pump. Try and get one thats been serviced on the correct grade VW oil through out its life. Appart from that any of the usual Mk4 things to look for i.e. corroding wings, window regulators, rear handle corrosion, rear washer pipe splitting. Theres all small things and generally they take high miles well. Expect to get about 50mpg from it as well.

Ive had that a couple of times when on track. I just assumed it was a small bit of oil. Remember it doesnt take a lot of oil to make a lot of smoke.

Ive got it up for sale yes. Amazing car but Im doing a fair bit more mileage than I anticipated this year so I really need something more economical plus I feel quite bad when using for the racing throwing everything in the back. Thing is Ive gotten used to a nice daily car so ideally Id like a nice daily, a ropey-ish towcar. Both cars are for sale at the moment, thinking of a Scirocco Tdi with an estate for towing. ---------- Post added at 09:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:36 PM ---------- Funny enough I work for an oil services company on the Shell account so its in my interest to keep usuign fuel!!

Wanting a project, the turbo just sits in the garage and only comes out now and again. Doesnt need anywork doing on it, I enjoy working on them. I would like a nice standard one to work on.

I was just reading the Sprinter mag the other day and your parting comments about this car as "its a keeper" then I went on Pistonheads and saw it for sale. Had to laugh. No11 then, your worse than me!!! -
Until you have owned one you dont realise how nice it is to have. Id have a 4mo over a 1.8T anyday of the week and ive owned an S3 so I know what both are like to drive.

Nice, here was me thinking that I would have to pay the £460 for the Audi but its ONLY £260. Bargin.... ---------- Post added at 10:13 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:10 AM ---------- ****, no Im band M. £460 or £253 for 6 months....bloody hell.

I want to lower 1 inch or so how do I do this ?

I hate cheap coilovers, they are just nasty and will not last that long. Im still an advocate of "normal spring and damper " kits but if its looks you are only really interested in then the coilover will probably be the way to go. Seeing as your in Atlanta Im doubting there is any salt on the roads in winter so they should last a bit better than they do in the UK. Buy the best you can afford though. -
I actually prefer them to the RS and CH's.
