  1. Maybe as lot of it depends on how you drive your car. A few years ago I worked in Durham and made a ritual of ragging home down A1 and M1 very late on a Friday night- very fast (but very safely..) and with more than a few races on the way. Always filled up with Fresh optimax before the run and believe me it *does* make a difference. Now I just pootle round town I still use optimax just from force of habit- But I can't tell any difference if I have to use '95 every now and again..
  2. On my player there was a screw in stud at the back of the player which slotted in through a corresponding hole at the back of the stereo 'cage'. This is to secure it properly and most units have them. The Alpine one needs to be cut down to length otherwise it pushes too far through. The hole on my C is on a mounting plate coming up from the base. Its possible to route the wires round the back of this plate to help with mounting. Cheers
  3. Ah- sorry my typo error- I meant aux water pump too (doh!) The aux water pump (located under and to the side of the top plastic engine covers) deffo runs with ignition on. Sorry for confusing
  4. Whoops- Don't have it any longer- just got the trim left- sorry >
  5. Doesn't answer your main question but the Aux fuel pump always runs with the ignition on... Maybe Dinkus's is just super quiet (or maybe its not working at all?) Cheers
  6.  To be fair though with a G60 AND a turbo- I am guessing you probably do go through the stuff quicker than most 8)
  7. But its how long its been lying around in the petrol station before you put it in thats the problem  But yeah- once its in the tank its gone within a week
  8. It sounds daft- but have you cut the screw in stud that alpine give you down to size? I had loads of trouble with mine until I cut the first bit of this. They are hell to fit anyway tho. I had to tie some string to the multi-cd interface and leave it hanging out into the drivers footwell so I could pull it out of the way of the unit going back. Cheers
  9. I 'heard' that shell was higher octane but had more unstable octane boosters (so the fuel goes off quicker with time), BP is lower octane but keeps its rating better. I notice a BIG difference at full chat using optimax, and also fresh fuel from an m-way service station is better than fuel I get thats been lying round for weeks at out local 'in the sticks' filling station. Cheers
  10. If I am reading your post right then I believe the weld comes loose where the handbrake is mounted to the transmission tunnel- I read a few posts where peoples handbrakes had almost come off!! If you whip of the side tunnel trim you'll see what I mean. I certainly wouldn't bend it anywhere otherwise you'll just fatigue it even more- prob needs sorting sooner than later :( Cheers
  11. Yes sorry to hear about your car- its such a shame to see a car meet its maker like that. I wonder what would have happened if you had been in the rado really? would it have been *that* much worse? The cameras nowt fancy in fact it came from Aldi- but its 6.3 megapixel and is apparently identical to quite an expensive branded camera whose name escapes me. But yeah the pics have come out alright :) Cheers
  12. Erm, thanks but its not for sale  :) Your right about the rocco- What it does have is an absolute minter of an interior- kind of an old skool tartan check- bolsters perfect an everything, apart from that its a bomb
  13. Yes I had the bonnet and bumper resprayed to get rid of the stone chips- the grille was looking a bit manky and had some tabs broken off so I went with a new black one. I prefer the black ones now- except when its really sunny (the special kind of light that lifts the mystic blue- you'll know what I mean..) when the colour coded grille looks best. Edit: Oh and the mileage just coming up to 110k :? Cheers mate :) TBH honest a lot is in the camera angle and the light though- the paint looks like that for about five hours a week- the rest of the time it just looks like plain dark blue :(
  14. Sorry to sound like a numpty on this- Are Coilovers really that much better than a 'normal' set-up? I have a nice drop with a Bilstein sprintline kit- It looks great but the ride is just like soooo firm. Like there is no perceptible 'bounce' in the set-up at all. Is there something in the different design of coilovers that gives better damping for the same drop? or would £500 of coilovers give you the same quality of ride as a £500 normal set-up. TBH I have just never really 'got' what coilovers are all about :|
  15. Cheers Paul- yep sunroof is still A- OK. Might have to get in touch with you Gordy Genius's next year (either you or James) to see if you can squeeze in a timing chain/tensioner/clutch job over a weekend :-P Though to be fair you must have enough one with your beast at the mo. Getting hang of the camera now- these look a lot better- Old Vs New...
  16. Tried to get some more 'stormy' pics like the ones in the Storm brochure with the thunderclouds above- Failed miserably as I struggled with the new camera a little- two pics attached until I can go back and do a better job!!
  17. As a few people have said before- a lot of people like owning storms because it just feels good... No-ones arguing that a few bits of plastic are worth £2000 or that Storms are value for money in the true sense- but many things have a value which is more than just the base cost of the material they are made of. To me personally- when people ask what car I have and I say 'corrado VR6' and see the reaction- thats great and makes it worth all the aggro of trying to keep the thing on the road- the second question is very often 'is it a storm'- which is the icing on the cake to me. Those who DO think its two badges worth a couple quid to make, won't buy one and will be perfectly happy with what they have; people who think its a classic piece of motoring history like me WILL pay the premium and think its worth every penny- Its just down to personal choice..
  18. Staying on Corsa's- I got a 1.7d p reg for £800. It was lovely, handled really well (I'm not kidding..), and the economy was something else- 600 plus miles on £40 quids worth of diesel. It was easy to fix and was quite well engineered until I stuck it under the back of an artic. I have now got a 206 on the cheap to run around in but its not 'that' much better than the Corsa was.. and costs much more to run. I think its just getting old- but there are days when the Corrado is just too hardcore for bumpy 'B' road driving and I actually prefer using the banger
  19. btw i should have said- sorry to hear about the car- I had mine for two weeks before some white van driving tw@t went into the side of mine- gutted wasn't the word..
  20. There is a place in fencehouses just outside Durham called J&B Coachworks who did a new door/ rear quarter on mine- seemed to know what they were on about and had done a few corrados before. It came back with everything working and bolted on properly- no rattles etc and seemed like a quality job.. Cheers
  21. Hi James, Good to see ur back in VR land- looks nice. Just a tip on the leather- a lot of the leather cleaners seem to be 'polishy' based and you slide all over the shop when you use it (armour all being a good example). Others seem more watery based (like liquid leather) which take the sheen off the leather and give a lot of 'sticktion' meaning the leather actually grips again..Give it a try M8 before ditching the leather.. Cheers Mike
  22. I think a lot of us have 'the standard' set up- so Alpy head unit, Pro-4 Ultra Amp & focal speakers. I might get down to audioscape and get it set up properly- in which case I'll post up all the info on the settings etc :)
  23. I think they look spot-on to be honest- Don't forget they cost £50 (or £80) with tyres or something- bet most people spend more than that on a single tyre...
