Yes I just renewed mine with Brentacre- dealt with John- its nice to have the personal touch. Adrian Flux must employ monkeys. I had a Corsa SRi once- fitted a K&N and phoned to get it listed on the policy- woman at the other end told me I didn't need it listing- and actually sounded like some mate of a person that worked there who had picked the phone up for a laugh- she didn't have a clue and didn''t give a sh!t Of course when I mentioned it next time I spoke to them, the fella said it HAD to be listed on the policy- I even had to change policies to an underwriter that allowed 'modified' cars! Great idea about forum discount though

Funny this should come up actually as I was just thinking about getting some 'performance' pads. I already have Pagid FR's on the rears but I was thinking about the Ferodo DS pads for the front (think they used to be DS2500 but they may have changed the branding). I know these have always had a reputation has being good pads but its strange no-one has actually tried them- maybe they're hard to get hold of or summat Funnily enough I am actually working at the Ferodo plant at the moment- which is maybe why I am biasing towards getting those :|

OK then fair enough- it must have been his gears that were limiting him cos he was bouncing of something. I was in fifth right under the limiter so I must have been well over 145 in real speed.. Cheers
-
Mine will go straight to 140- after that it will still pull although at a slower pace. I have had an indicated 158 out mine- just pulling past a rally kitted scoob that was bouncing off its speed limiter so it must have been going pretty quick :D

Very nice- How are you finding the BMC noisewise? thats next on my wish-list but I don't want anything 'too' loud! Cheers

A well running VR6 is quite simply awsome. Took mine out for a rag today with my brother (who has a 2.0 8v Ibiza Cupra). He was just blown away by how quick it went (and also with the grip but you'll know about that already). We really gave it some proper stick- two cars tried to 'race' one was a slightly sporty focus and the other a Toyota Celica 140bhp vvti. Neither are 'fast' but they were being driven hard- both were just despatched out of sight within 200 yards. Am still smiling now! :D

I think we agree then- It could 'possibly' be either- The Vag-Com reading will confirm what it 'definitely' is.. Don't forget to let us all know what it was fotocall... Cheers
-
You sound pretty sure Kev- Although I had exactly the same symptoms as described on two separate occasions and it 'deffo' wasn't the immobiliser. Vag-Com would be right place to start for sure though. Cheers
-
Actually these also the exact symptoms of an unseated fuel pump relay.. In fact even more so if its firing for a second before dying. If you do a search it will tell you which relay to check (although an easy way is of course to pull off the fuse box cover and seat them ALL back properly). Cheers

Cheers for that mate

Hello, Noticed my heated seat light switches don't illuminate anymore at night- is the bulb replaceable in these? if so what kind of bulb will I need to get? Cheers Mike

Buzzing sound when heated seat switched on
Ice White Socks replied to Dr Forinor's topic in Interior
I had this- think its when you get intermittent broken circuits in the heated seat element and it sends the relays a bit haywire. Bet you have damaged the element- most often goes on the 'secondary circuit' which is linked in to the temp sensitive resistor- and is easy to damage if you push down on the seat base (say your reaching in to the passenger footwell from the driver side) -
Yes they are easy to fix. I recall there being a small circular resistor on one of the contact points and care need to be taken to include it in the circuit (on one of my old ones even that had disintegrated!) Good call about the passat ones though!

Yes the Focals are a bit bright- I just dulled them down using switch in the passive crossover that came with the components; I read somewhere that it gives a much better result than using the HU- it does take the top end down quite well

Surely not  , I am a stickler for having things working on mine but wouldn't have paid £60 for the pair- are you sure its not £30 for the pair (thats steep enough in itself though :| ) Cheers

Heated jets do work but will be practically useless after ten years or so as they don't appear to be that well sealed. You can buy them from the stealers but they are not cheap. I got new ones for mine- within a few mins they will melt ice around say a three-inch diameter of the bonnet around each nozzle...

Help with Genesis P4 Ultra amp settings
Ice White Socks replied to Ice White Socks's topic in ICE 'n' Secure
OK- just set it up- sounds truly awsome. Quick guide to what I did in case it might help anyone else. 1) Turn of Low-pass filter on amp, wind down both High-pass fiters completely (15-20hz- effectively becoming subsonic filters) 2) Cross-over fronts at 80hz with a 12db slope, cross-over sub at 63hz with a 12db slope. 3) Reverse Sub-phase 4) Time align front left speaker 42cm, front-right speaker 95cm (sub stays where it is because, being the most distant speaker, the two fronts are delayed to bring in line with the sub) 5) Set gain so max volume you might listen to is volume level 26-29 All on 9853R- all instructions for this are in the handbook. Cheers Mike -
trig's 94 OBD2 VR6 - New Wheels!!!! (...finally)
Ice White Socks replied to Trig's topic in Members Gallery
Nice looking car fella- Its amazing how much these things cost to keep on the road though!!! BTW you didn't mention it but did you get the rear axle bushes done? thats kinda critical at that mileage though I am sure Vince would have mentioned it! Slightly OT- I'm looking to haul my car down to Stealth for rebushing etc, how do you occupy yourself for a whole day in Southam without being able to drive anywhere? or do I just need to take a good book? Cheers Mike -
Welcome to the Forum- A good choice of motor (and forum..) There will be loads of advice people will give. Mine would be don't turn the air director dial (a) with the fan on or, (b) when you are going above 90 mph. They are very fragile and break easily so its best to make sure there is as little pressure on them at all when adjusting... Also sunroof cables are prone to snapping so make sure you keep the mechanism well greased cos they look like a pig to change.. Cheers

Edit- the fella is just having a laugh then- Try another main dealer and just quote the part number- it will come up on their system and they can order it. BTW there is no 'pod'- not like the early cars so its all one piece- That 160 quid might have been euros; and it would have been for the whole thing- Doh!

Pierse Motors Tipperary.. Phone Dara Tierney- number is 00353 62 33218/ 33218. This fella has cottoned on to the fact they are mega-rare and will add a bit of commission on to the RRP- Mine cost 154 euros brand spanking new.. Lot of money actually but I really, really wanted them :|
-
These are still available from Irish VW dealers- Really. I wanted one last year- phoned up an Irish Dealer- two weeks later a brand spanker is sitting on my kitchen table. Parts fella asked it I knew anyone else that wanted any- looks like there might be a few takers kicking about

Help with Genesis P4 Ultra amp settings
Ice White Socks replied to Ice White Socks's topic in ICE 'n' Secure
I won't be at the Rolling Road day but if you guys can find some common agreement on crossover points/ time alignment/ parametric settings etc then it would be great if you could post them up. I am going to ask James what he suggests as a starting point because I just can't stop messing around with it! -
Enjoyed watching that- You came into that corner with some speed :) 8)

Fifth Gear Unleaded/Super Unleaded Experiment
Ice White Socks replied to Walesy's topic in General Car Chat
I was worried you might take it that way :-P Its not often you get the opportunity to batter your car on empty roads and cold temps but that was one of them. Nowadays I don't have the opportunity so I don't take it over 4500 much myself now :) And like you say- in normal driving theres nothing in it between the two
