Why don't you get a new stub axle fitted then :? , I bent my stub axle my spinning in the wet and cracking a kerb with the rear wheel (obviously going backwards at the time 8) ), it made the car handle terribly (obviously). I'm no expert but surely that will mean that your rear tyre is never at the correct angle to the road. Surely thats why your back end is skippin all over the shop  Mike

What do you think of the fto and integra
Ice White Socks replied to Bean's topic in General Car Chat
tho the best I have seen yet is about the Audi S3- 'A3 joins the quattro party- driver not invited'- now that probably is true :) -
What do you think of the fto and integra
Ice White Socks replied to Bean's topic in General Car Chat
I saw a rather cruel comment about the FTO in some buyers guide once- 'Looks like it should chase porsches but in reality keeps up with mondeos'. Made me laugh at the time :D :D Doubt its true tho. I think the FTO looks far nicer then the 'teg, but I accept it doesn't handle half as well -
Its also worth considering pallet carriers- Most will deliver a full pallet next day for £30. though I guess a good courier quote should beat this which means you won't have to go and steal a pallet 8) Mike

I'm using the Bilstein Sprintline Kit. There advertised as the next best thing to coilovers and i'm very happy with them. The drops nice too- have a look at my Storm in the members gallery to see it. (am not technical enough to make a link  ) I think its fair to say the handling wil be transformed by anything thats half decent tho  Cheers Mike

Hi Flicking through the new top gear buyers guide last night in Tesco- saw a feature called something like 'supercars without paying super money', had a look thinkin the Corrado could have got a mention- alas the closest they came was the RX-7 (at least it was the same age..). Felt a bit disappointed until I turned the page to a feature called 'top 10 evergreen performers' or somethin and wahey, in amongst the supras, porsche 911's and porsche 968's was the corrado :) :) Its a great write up- IIRC it goes something like ' VW got it so right with this coupe, squat purposeful and muscular it comes with three engines ( :? ) the 2 litre (hmmmm) the supercharged (maybe) and the VR6 which is THE one- its just sublime' etc etc etc Well worth a look next time you are in the supermarket 8) , You'll no doubt have a chuckle about Top Gear talking about its 'reliable golf underpinnings' reliable my ar$e  Cheers Mike

Ice White Socks's Mystic Blue Storm- The R32 eater ;-)
Ice White Socks replied to Ice White Socks's topic in Members Gallery
Erm, no actually   , I do tend to drive with the seat quite foreward- I like to feel locked into the car! Cheers for the replies anyway- you may also spot my brothers Scirroco in the background of the fourth picture down- certainly looking its age when compared to the Corrado tho! Mike -
Just read this thread- That story is a cracker- makes me feel like I was doing that racing myself 8) . Nice one!

Hi George- Going from your name/ location/ username I think I probably went to secondary school with you- and you went to my dads primary school- if I am right you currently work as a race car mechanic- which is why you now own such a cracker of a car 8) . Nice colour- am not around the Monday but would like to see the car- what about Sat/Sun? If you are someone else I apologise but I'll probably still know you if you are from PF. Cheers

I' Yes they are  . I had a funny feeling that I was talking pap when I wrote it

I had my first play with a scooby last weekend. The guy obviously knew his car had comedy 0-60 time cos he dropped right back back behind me- then when I went to overtake a car in front of me, he nailed it and went from being about 50 metres behind me to right up my ar*e in just no time at all  I just shifted the VR up into trusty 3rd gear and took about 20 metres back out of him between 50 & 90mph :) . The VR's have still got tremendous pace for a ten year old car!
-
Those VT rear wishbone bushes do sound pretty cool, though I'm sure you lose the 'passive rear steer' if you replace with anything but the standard VW bushes tho. That can't be good news :? (unless I'm talkin pap  ) Mike Whoops- sorry I'm a t*t- Hadn't noticed this thread had gone to a second page

Hi, Am coming to the conclusion that the Corrado is such a cracking car that it would be well worth holding onto and keeping as a weekend driver. I have also noticed that I only REALLY ever appreciate the Corrado any more is when I get back into it after driving another car ( A good example being my mates new 1.8T A3 last weekend- the Corrado felt sooo fast after driving that :) ) Thing is I can't realistically afford to keep two cars on the road right now. Was thinking about picking up a dirt cheap A3 1.6 and putting the corrado into storage for a year; rather than stack up millions of miles on it. Are there any companies who will store a car for you- obviously I wouldn't have to insure it or tax it and then I could just pull it back out of storage in a couple of years time when I have a company motor- and just blat at the weekends when I will appreciate it so much more? Anyone know anywhere and how much it would cost. Do think its a good idea :? Cheers

You know IIRC its not just the ISV that needs cleaning- you have to do the throttle body too. Something about how the crap coming into the throttle body cause the throttle 'flap' not to seal properly when fully shut. This came from my local specialist who- when i had this problem and he was booked up for weeks- he just took me to one side and told me how to clean it myself 8) . never had it stall since  Mike

Thermostat is my guess- They are prone to failure. get it sorted before it sticks shut for good otherwise you will be left stranded. Just the same happened to mine :( Mike
-
Yep- I'll second the multimeter trick. Just the same happened to mine luckily just days before I was getting the discs changed. £20 later it was all sorted. IIRC the sensors should give a resistance of 1.4K if working correctly. If the coil has gone the resistance will be far higher. shouldn't worry too much- its very rarely the pump- Usually just sensors or abs rings  Mike

24V Renshaw - 24V V6 - Just read the whole thread!!!!

Never normally a fan of modified corrado's but I have to say that is one cracking car 8) The paint colour in particular is just fantastic. Nice car! -
Whats the fastest you have ever been in your Corrado?
Ice White Socks replied to surfer.vr6's topic in General Car Chat
Yes I remember the thread- think he was racing some japanese beast at the time- can't quite remember what car it was he beat though :| -
I am having the same problem- I think its leaking from the auxillary water pump. The question I was going to ask tho, without meaning to hijack, is how low does the water need to go before the coolant light starts to flash? Its just mine stops leaking when level gets about 1.5 cm below the min line when hot but it never triggers the warning light- have i got a knackered 'sensor'. Cheers

Whats the fastest you have ever been in your Corrado?
Ice White Socks replied to surfer.vr6's topic in General Car Chat
Think I'm best so far :D An indicated 152mph- tho in fairness it was downhill and I was being pulled along by what I hope was a fairly well modded civic type R. That was with a fairly healthy slipstream- couldn't get more more than 146mph when I was in front :( Mike -
Hi, Been looking at leon Cupras today for a mate- never been that good on nearly new car prices but they are trying to flog a cupra with two former owners and 8k on the clock for £14k when you can buy a new one for £15.5k- and thats the list price i.e before you bargained for it- whos gonna pay that? Should I offer £13k- that sounds more than reasonable to me! Rolled up in the Corrado which got looks off all the sales staff- then one came up to me and asked how long I had it, what BHP it was etc. Its great havin a corrado :D Cheers

Corrado Factory Immobiliser (Thatcham 2?)
Ice White Socks replied to Ice White Socks's topic in Archive
Yeah Maybe- Its lucky that the Corrado isn't as valuable as it used to be so- if someone is prepared to chew through two immobilisers and a disclock to take a car- they might as well go for a porsche or a TT instead. IMO the only real threat is someone who has a written off storm and is looking to transfer the ID - then the situation is reversed because, there are so few around- that person would do whatever it took to get it :( Yes I agree with that- I keep mine utterly bare- along with the glove box open to avoid just that kind of petty damage- It would break my heart if some scrote smashed the car up for a £50 CD player  Mike -
Corrado Factory Immobiliser (Thatcham 2?)
Ice White Socks replied to Ice White Socks's topic in Archive
Wahey thats exactly what it is. I only knew about it yesterday when I looked in the manual  , It sounds like quite a potent immobiliser though if it disables the ECU- so the combination of a CAT 1 set up, plus this secondary immobiliser (plus a disclock!) should mean that its not going anywhere off my drive in a hurry :) -
Corrado Factory Immobiliser (Thatcham 2?)
Ice White Socks replied to Ice White Socks's topic in Archive
OK- Appreciate the advice- luckily it only costs £12 to get the alarm accredited so its no problem. The only question I am not still clear on is, without meaning to labour the point: The corrado came fitted with an immobiliser from the factory- no key fobs or alarm brands or anything- just a tiny chip in the key which acts on the ECU somehow. AFAIK these were only fitted to the very latest VR's so most people won't know about them. Is this recognised as a cat2 immobiliser? Cheers -
Corrado Factory Immobiliser (Thatcham 2?)
Ice White Socks replied to Ice White Socks's topic in Archive
Sorry I should have made this a bit clearer. It has actually got a CAT1 alarm and immobiliser fitted- just no certificate. What it also has though- with it being a '95 car, is it has this factory fitted immobiliser where the key has a chip in it which acts on the ECU of the car. Whilst i will have to pay for a thatcham cert on the main alarm/immob if I have to, I was thinking that maybe this other second immobiliser would be thatcham 2 level on its own :?: Cheers
