Ford- I am looking at mine now- bought from a stealer about six months ago without any problem.... I'll be calling for seat base in a few days so I'll let you know if I have any problems
-
Iain- sorry to answer your question with another question, but why do you say get the Beru ones from a ford dealer. Its just I'm going down the Beru route and was going to call the stealer in a few days to order them- are they cheaper then from Ford then (I understand the VR is used in the Galaxy BTW- Have you already compared the prices or something?)

Hi, I have just realised my plugs have been in for approx 16k without any attention. I know they aren't fouled cos I look on a regular basis but they haven't been gapped. Should I be thinking about changing them- can you even regap those bosch four one if so what should the gap be :? I only ask cos my VR seems to have lost a bit of shove below 4k. Now more than likely its just having an off day but it has got me thinking even so :pale: Cheers Mike

Looks Nice 8) - You don't see many with those headlight washers

Whilst you have been a little unlucky in that some of the blunter forum members have taken an interest in your thread, you have been even more unlucky if you paid £700 for a coil pack :( . Did you mean the whole bill was £700 i,e pack plugs leads, labour etc. :? Surely no dealer would have the cheek to charge you £500+ over the list price   tell me I'm right.... :|

Yes they were nice cars. My mums first one was a cracker. The colour was called champagne metallic and it had a deep pile royal purple carpets and seats. It went really fast too. It was A reg- always wondered whether it was a special edition :?

Muck/ sediment in the fuel tank used to be a big problem in the Scirrocos. My mum had two and both had running problems that were solved when my dad cut off/out a mesh filter on the fuel exit pipe. It looked like crap was getting drawn up into the mesh and restricting the fuel flow. After removing this mesh, the crap then got pulled through into the filter which could then just be replaced. Having said that any time I have had a peep into an empty tank on any of my cars they have been spotless :?

Nice Interior 8) You've got some of those oh so hard to find centre console gauges too :)

At least its a nice looking picture of the Corrado on the website though. Does anyone else think it looks like a campaign? The colour and year looks right and if I squint I am sure I can see a bit of red inside. Either that or its just the reflection from that big red garage door

Mine did that too about two weeks after i bought it. I was sure mine was that gasket as well cos I couldn't see a leak anywhere else, but actually there was a crack in the radiator that only opened up after about 3k revs and then just drenched the engine compartment. Obviously when you stop to look you can't see the leak :( Might be the radiator after all  Mine went at 75K and I when I posted it as a problem on here quite a few other people said it went at the same mileage. Is the car new to you? Its just I'm sure mine went because it got such a thrashing in the first three weeks that it just finished the rad off

I understand why you say that but I had stalling issues AND cold running issues. Cleaning the ISV solved them both. You could feel when the ISV had stuck out of place by the rough running and and lack of power at the top end. When the engine warmed up it was fine. Just my own experience If I had any running issues with the car- the first thing I would do is spend 10 minutes cleaning the iSV, before spending the thick end of £200 on coil pack and leads. Yep agree with you on possible temp sender though -
They only work with the heated rear screen on. If they are working properly they will clear a misted mirror up very quickly and go on to be quite warm to the touch

just been offered a very nice VR6 storm, whats it worth?
Ice White Socks replied to Trippy's topic in General Car Chat
I would guess that too. My storm has a red badge cos its had a new grill at some point (maybe original was stolen/vandalised). It definitely should have had a chrome one when it left the factory -

No worries- Its the idle stabilisation valve. It sits under one of the top plastic engine covers and I believe it regulates the idle by controlling the air flow somehow. It has a valve which opens and closes using an electric motor/ solonoid. They get coked up with crap and start to stick causing idle/ power problems. To get to it you take off the top bank of plug leads (either use a tool to remove them at the plug end, or pull them out of the coilpack end), Use a spline key (tho an allen key will do apparently) to remove the plastic cover bolts. You'll see the ISV under the cover with a couple of pipes going into it- undo the pipes- clean out with a rag and carb cleaner- squirt some WD40 to finish and reassemble. Someone might have a picture of exactly what it looks like if I haven't described it very well -

Sounds like a sticky ISV to me. I only ever had this problem when nailing it from stone cold (I know, I know- I don't do it often  ) at which time it would rev to 4k and then suddenly die in power and run badly until the engine warmed up. Whip the ISV off and give it a clean out with carb cleaner followed by a squirt of WD40 to finish. I would definitely do this before investing in either plugs or a coil pack. -
No worries- I picked the galaxy tip up here myself. It didn't have any effect on mine but it depends which side of the valve has the break. Its definitely not going to do it any good though because its effectively the same as a vacuum leak on the inlet side- like you say just pulling in a bit of air that the MAF doesn't know anything about If I was you I would change the part- check for any other leaks in the pipework- then disconnect the battery for five minutes or so to reset the ECU. Then just take out for a blast- it may just resetup again OK

There are a couple of threads on this. I believe its the rocker cover breather valve and often breaks there. If you order it from VAG you will get the whole inlet trunk- (the big pipe as well as the little one) £70 odd Luckily they use the same engine in the Ford Galaxy- Ford sell the part separately for about £15- £20 8) If you go to a ford parts place and look it up on the computer. Its listed on their system as part of the 'emmisions control' system :) For the sake of £20 I would get it replaced

won't work- sorry, Best thing to do is lever out the mirrors (taking great care not to scratch anything obviously) what normally happens is the terrminals between the mirror and the wiring will be in a terrible state. Disconnect the wires taking great care not to pull/ break the contacts which stick out of the mirror (trust me- I know :( )- Clean them up and hopefully you should be laughin :D You could always test the continuity across the terminals of the mirror to check the elements not broken- If they are you have no chance of getting to the element :(

Agreed- Main dealers are just overpaid idiots in my experience. Reminds me of the time I went to the stealers to ask how much a basic service would be (ie the minimum required to get a dealer stamp) I explained to them I didn't want anything more doing cos I had everything else done by a specialist :) When I was driving off the guy I said this to went into the showroom and pointed me out to the sales guys who were all pointing as I drove off- think I might have insulted them by implying they weren't specialists. Anyway receptionist phones me back on Monday to book me in. After three attempts to explain to her that I wanted to choose my own oil (synta silver) and not have them use magnatec, I put the phone down, never turned up for the service and have never used a main dealer again

Chris- another good bet and prob cheaper than pitstop is Volkspartz in Durham. The owner has a mystic blue 30k storm himself and the place is always full of Coarrdas and older porsches. Great place and great prices. Did you go and have a look at that wheel refurb place in Sunderland in the end?

Ice White Socks replied to Trippy's topic in General Car Chat
What the Grille badges? are the red ones rare. I've got one on my storm and keep thinking about turning it back to a silver one just to get it back to standard. Didn't know they were rare  -

for a condition reflecting mileage 18k storm?- I would for sure  -

Hey, just to get back on topic  , the prices of storms seems to be going through the roof on Autotrader. If the mileage is a genuine 18k and thats reflected in the condition then I reckon someone out there is going to be 10k at the very very least  Right- back to beating trippy :) -
Don't forget the expansion tank itself- they can leak too. I've just had both the tank and the aux pump replaced to cure just the same thing :(
