  1. Brake squeal or squeak, or whatever descriptive term one cares to use, is most often caused by the pads audibly resonating on lighter application of the brake pedal. Again typically if the brakes are prone to making a noise on light application, this will cease on full application of the brakes. If you are suffering from this problem, then given that all other function is as it should be, the issue will be brake dust build up and contamination of the contact surfaces. To resolve the issue, strip the callipers away from the carriers, remove the pads and clean thoroughly all the points at which components make contact with each other. Ie carrier rails for locating the pads, calliper piston face, calliper outer pad contact face and backs of the pads. If shims are fitted clean these too. In my experience the piston shims being present or not is of little consequence in this matter. On the calliper pad rails the brake dust build up can be compacted, so a coarse file is useful to clean away these baled on deposits. Once clean re-assemble without the use of any anti squeal Compound, yes without. Your problem should now be resolved on the proviso that all other function is ok. If you experience a return of the issue then a light application of anti squeal compound is ok to all metal to metal contact areas. The best compound to use is Innotec ceramic grease, it is longer lasting than Coppaslip.
  2. Your best option would be to fit VDO gauge and sender. With this package you can opt for a dual sender which will allow you to fit the sender in place of the OEM low pressures with on the filter head, and then you will connect the original wire that went to the switch to the warning light terminal on the new sender. The gauge wire will go to the gauge terminal on the new sender. Furthermore, to make things even more straight forward, all Corrados had the gauge wire already installed in the wiring harness. This wire is secured in the engine bay harness and usually tied back out of the way. The other end of this wire is found behind the dash centre console behind the storage pocket in front of the gear stick. Hope this helps.
  3. Hi goldf1ng3r, Thank you for your complimentry response to rorgasm's great one liner. However, I dont know whether you have got some crossed wires or confusion going on? But whilst i wish to cause no offense, I feel the need to correct you on an issue of ownership regarding my Corrado. I have owned my G60 since it was two years old. It has only ever been owned by one other who purchased it as a new vehicle from VW Audi Dealer Dovercourt in 1991. I feel you must be confusing my Corrado with another you have seen, as it has never been owned by someone in Jersey, let alone been there. Furthermore, the only person responsible for any of its modifications is myself. I must say however i'm now intrigued as to which Corrado you have mistaken mine for :). regards, John
  4. Hi Guys, thank you for all your encouraging comments. I have always set out to build that which gives me pleasure, but it's all the more rewarding when other like minded souls express their words of recognition. From the first moment I set eyes on the pre-production photos of the Corrado, and then later at Dealer when I PDI'd and test drove the first "F" plate cars into the UK, I knew in my heart that one day I would own a Corrado, and furthermore give it the engineering to perform as well as it looks. Its taken twenty-seven years so far, and the story nearly has a final chapter. In answer to your Q coullstar, the engine is based on the 9a block, to give it a shorter stroke, 2 litre capacity. and retains the much needed oil squirters for piston cooling and lubrication. I am going to keep the info comming and share with you all my progress. Am looking forward to a rainy Bank Holiday weekend, wherein I can spend time working on my Corrado without feeling, or being made to feel guilty in doing so :)!
  5. Hi Jim, the concept has been fermenting in my head for many years now, but I needed a very good reason to remove the G Lader element from my G60. The whole concept of entertaining that action was the subject matter for a very emotive mental battle. The only way it was ever going to happen was on the event of my G Lader grenading, as I just couldn't bring myself to remove it before it's time had expired. We are now a year down the line of this build and not too far from hearing Her new war cry!
  6. Hi all, Since I have been the owner of my Corrado G60 since 1993 and it has metamorphosed more times than The Doctor, I thought it was time I started a thread on G60 PJM's past and future. This is the last time I will make significant change to my Corrado, at least that's what I told my long suffering Wife! So if it is to be the last morph, I had better make it a good'en :). So following on from my G Lader letting go after 23 years loyal service on our return journey from Stanford Hall 25th birthday meet (that's the Corrado, not mine), the logical thing to do of course was a simple repair, to make the car lighter, more powerful and add some extra traction features, "of course!" you all say!! So with this simple fix in mind I set about my final build. I am documenting my progress as a build thread, on our own JMR website, and given that this is a time consuming process, instead of duplicating everything onto this thread, if you click the link you can see how it's all comming together. http://www.johnmitchellracing.co.uk/vehicles/corrado-16vt/ But as a little taster here are some pics to illustrate past, present and future of my Corrado. In the beginning Karmann created Corrado G60 OEM was my greatest pleasure for the time to follow, until I was reminded how tasty the fruits are on the tuning tree. The 8V engine received a Schrick cam, G Force charger rebuild, 68mm pulley, AMD chip (the original AMD), ported head, Scorpion exhaust, oil cooler, and my own charge cooler system. Later you will see my first generation 16VG60 engine with twin air intakes. The Dietrech RS front bumper was introduced to duct air to the RS2 intercooler. Also changed were the OEM BBS wheels for 17" BBS, the Inpro crystal rear lights (not a good addition in hind sight), and sill trims. This was the last configuration with our fourth generation JMR 16VG60 300BHP engine, 968 Clubsport inspired trim, carbon fibre bonnet, roof, rear spoiler and seats, JMR engine breather system, JMR 280mm rear brake upgrade, Brembo 4 pots with lightweight 304mm x 30mm rotors & bells, JMR Stage 5 G Charger, JMR G Charger Toothed belt drive system, Audi RS6 oil cooler modified for dual pass, 02A gearbox with CTN ratios and Quaife LSD, KW Clubsport coil overs, JMR fuel pump upgrade, Milltek custom built twin exit exhaust, and so much more. Finally a pic of my new engine in development, but not the finished article :)

    02a differences

Thanks Mark, I do hope so, because it won't be for a lack of investment, time or enthusiasm. More detail to come yet, just so time consuming posting it up :-)
  8. I have seen so many Corrados over the last four years with terrible corrosion issues around the windscreen frame, all of which down to poor removal and installation by the alleged professionals from national companies. The cost of rectifying these issues is extensive, involving screen renewal, welding works, and re-spraying all the adjoining coachwork! Jim you are correct, there are kits available to aid installation. These are not always required, but that depends on the experience and ability of the fitter. Watch these guys in everything they do, because to date they have clearly failed to impress, and your Corrado will be potentially left in a right old mess. Water leaks, poor wiper operation, wind noise etc all issues we have seen in addition to the long term issues like corrosion. Also be advised that the OEM Windscreen seal needs to be salvaged if at all possible, as this part is no longer available from dealer. There are aftermarket seals out there, but again the quality of these is variable, and some are totally useless. A decent installer will Have access to well fitting parts, because he knows it will make his job easier, and you won't be presenting any post works complaints. Good luck.

    02a differences

Hi Fella, hopefully my re-work on my Corrado will be nearing completion towards the end of this year and I'll be back with you Guys to re- open the book of fun :-). I have updated our site with some build pics. http://www.johnmitchellracing.co.uk

    02a differences

Ok not a problem. All you need to do is have your 02a box rebuilt with the inclusion of your LSD, and you are good to go. By internals I was referring to the gear ratios etc. the gearing of your transmission might need a little re-thinking as you are wanting to change your engine to which it is paired, from a 136BHP 16V to a circa 300BHP 20VT. These two engines will have very different power deliver profiles, and in order to get the best from them the ratios should ideally be changed to suit. Your mid to upper range is going to be very different. Food for thought. In my 16VG60 I used the Mk3 Golf TDi CTN 02a gear ratios with a Quaife. This combo was extremely well matched to the low end torque and high end speed management. It also allowed a fuel return of 34mpg when behaving!

    02a differences

Agreed, and for clarity you can swap around the internal components between the 02a transmissions, but be aware that there are two variations on the shifter selector towers. Clearly the 4 cylinder engines utilised a different bell housing casting to that of the 6 cylinder.

    02a differences

As a guideline I ran my 02a box on my 16VG60 for the past 18 years. My 02a was equipped with a Quaife LSD and my engine was generating 300BHP. I most certainly used all the power and enjoyed every mile. So indeed these boxes can take this sort of power. This is as far as I was prepared to take this transmission, my new engine a 16V Turbo which is going to be up at 500BHP will be running an 02M box through 4WD.
  14. Storm or not I'm glad to hear another Corrado is in safe hands of someone who wants to restore it to good order. Too many cars are broken for spares. Ref your CDL pump problem, are you sure the pump is faulty? Reason I ask that too often our customers report to us that they believe their CDL pump is faulty, when indeed it is a wiring fault, a vacuum leak in the CDL system plumbing, or another issue. If it is your pump then the part number is critical, as there are many VAG vehicles all fitted with similar looking pumps, but the main difference is the plug wiring and terminal layout. The letter at the end of the part number will denote a change in specification which will render the part non compatible for your application.

    02a differences

The 02a gearboxes are all equally as strong as each other. They don't suffer the same issues as the 020 transmissions. The only question I would raise with regard to your proposal to use an 02a in conjunction with a 20VT, what BHP are you planning to put through it? The 02a is good for up to circa 320BHP, after this they are prone to failure.
  16. Hi, is the MK 1 Scirocco still available? Would like to buy this from you if it is. Please call me 07974020031. Look forward to hearing from you. John
  17. My Corrado is off road at present undergoing changes for later this year. It would great to have a Sussex Coast meet, if only to get to know who's who and to share enthusiasm for our interest in all things Corrado. Goodwood is a great venue, there is often some form of Motorsport in progress, and the Aero Club cafe for drink and food onsite.
  18. I, like many in days gone by, have often aimed less than complimentary commentary over some of the "silver Baron's" on track moments. But whatever is said of these isolated incidents, the fact stands that Michael Schumacher is one of the worlds Motorsport legends, and he has my respect. The thought of loosing him to a skiing accident is totally wrong. We all wish him a return to full health.
  19. Hi, Am happy to help you with the info you require to enable fitting of your charger timing belt. We have specialised in Corrado G60 since 1993. It would be best for you, that I talk you through this process, as a wrong move in this area will potentially end game your charger. The task is not difficult , but needs to be carried out correctly. If you contact me at my workshop on Monday, I will explain the process and leave you with clarity on this procedure. Call me at JMR Ltd West Sussex , 01903 718684, or 07974020031. I look for wake to hearing from you. Bess regards, John Mitchell JMR Ltd Littlehampton West Sussex
  20. If this is the collection of cars that have been brought to my attention, then all on this forum watch this space, as the collector who is sadly no longer with us was a real connoisseur and had some beautiful VAG machinery. Good luck in finding new owners to cherish these prized examples.
  21. Call me in the week. It's not that I don't wish to talk over the weekend or indeed any other . There is so much information to pass on it will take forever to type it out. One phone call and I can let you know all there is to on your tooth belt drive set up. I look forward to hearing from you. Best regards, John JMR Ltd
  22. The problem you have is that the pulleys are misaligned, and the belt is running out and off your pulleys. If you run a straight edge across the face of the pulleys you will find the fault. Toothed pulleys behave in the same way as a cam belt system. Unlike the stock 6pk grooved belt pulleys which are more tolerant of minor misalignment, toothed pulleys are highly sensitive to this situation. I developed the pulleys from which yours are copied. If you require further assistance please call me during working hours at my works. Regards, John. JMR Ltd 01903 718684
  23. Fitted a set of these straps to a customers VR6 last week. My client asked us to powder coat them satin black to give that OEM look. The straps fitted perfectly and sat well with the new retaining parts. Would be very happy to utilise these parts in future. Great to see independant manufacturers comming to the rescue of our Corrados , to cover the shortfall left by Volksawagen. John, JMR
  24. The points made by Jim and Tempest are sound and well informed. There are many ways by which the G60 engine power output can be increased. Equally there are staged levels of tuning one can progress through, largely driven by your available budget. I have been modifying the G60 engines since 1993 and will be happy to give some info on this subject. Please call me during working hours, JMR ltd 01903 718684 I look forward to hearing from you. John
