Yeah, if I was rich I'd probably buy them as the ones on my 52k mile VR6 really let the car down :( Be good if Classic Parts do a run of them

Hi all, my VR has been parked up for some time and took it for an MOT yesterday and it failed on rear brakes. I was a little concerned about the brakes since it had been sat, but jumped on them a few times on the way to the garage and all seemed ok. However, apparently there is very little rear braking on the foot pedal. Whipped rear calipers off expecting them to be suffering as usual, but all seemed fine - wound out on the handbrake lever and wound back in fine with tool. Cleaned up and put back on. Looked at the brake compensator and it was pretty solid, so I removed the bolt to the spring and worked it to free it off. It is now moving, but only if you put a little effort into it. Can anyone tell me how 'free' these should be when disconnected from the spring? Also, which way is open, fully pulled out towards the floor I thought since then the piston will be fully extended? I'm loath to replace it unless I have to as they're 60 quid, plus I'd have to bleed the brakes :( but obviously need to get it fixed..

Yeah, I go through loads on Mk2s / Mk3s, they all seem to be crap :( Pain to change too

It's only a metal ring at the top, the rest of the tank is plastic, so really not a big problem

Hi mate, I'd like the beetle steels and tyres if still available and also after a scuttle cover (over the ecu) if it's available and in Ok condition? Can you PM me your address, my sister lives in Risca so would like to see if I can arrange for her to collect. Cheers

Hard to diagnose if it is so infrequent. As it is happening as you come onto throttle, have you had a look at the throttle body? I wonder if the idle micro switch is a bit gummy so when you accelerate it is hesitating. Cleaning the throttle body, and adjusting the switch a little may help. Have you checked the basics such as timing and co pot resistance? I know it is intermittent and is running fine otherwise, but you've got to start with the simplest stuff.

Where are you based mate?

Looks amazing mate :) wish mine looked half as good!
-
Another common issue is the rubber o-ring on the idle screw on the throttle body perishing, worth removing the screw and checking it

Don't buy a gasless one, they are useless. As always, buy the best you can afford

Can you pm me a number mate, interested but have a few questions which would be easier by phone, cheers :)

Are you using the 430mm radiator? I had trouble with my G60 temps after I had converted my Jetta a few years ago, had to run the hot blower on full every time I was in traffic. The problem was permanently resolved by switching the rad to a 630mm one as per the VR6.

Lol Ebay and paypal fees are a bit steep these days is all I was thinking..
-
Are you hoping to do it without damaging the paint by the way?
-
Yeah you'll need to get full four wheel alignment if you remove the brackets, best to find a garage that is happy to do it before you unbolt them as some places won't do it.
-
These available any cheaper through the forum? Cheers
-
I have one near Huddersfield you can borrow for a small fee
-
Shouldn't really need any parts other than the bushes, unless you damage something getting it apart, but unlikely. Crap job mind :( enjoy

Think the clutch stop can be adjusted
-
Clutch bearing 'going' wouldn't prevent the pedal from moving far as I can tell .. more likely they don't know what's happened and want to remove the gearbox, but get you to pay for labour so have told you that's the problem..

I'd go with the Bentley manual. I rebuilt a G60 bottom end a couple of years ago and that went back together per the Bentley manual and seemed to run ok for the couple of years I had it.
-
Cool, cheers for the advice guys

How are you guys getting the factory foam off? I'm struggling with the adhesive, although I suppose with all the foam off you could just stick new on top
-
Not sure bargain is the right word  You can get one that hasn't been pulled to bits for not a lot more. Probably get sold as parts

Thanks for the replies, I'll mount it and use the measurement from bottom of mirror. Spuddy, if you find yourself in the Corrado with a tape measure (as you do ) it'd be interesting to know distance from bottom of mirror. What gear knob have you used, MK4 one?
