Finally got brakes sorted on my VR, plus new water pump, full service, stereo fitted, tracking done :thumb right: Wife has banned me from the garage after this event  Needs a wash and polish, which I won't have much time to do, but figured better it looked rough in Germany, than polished up and stuck in the garage..

Best place to start is a good service, inc the under car fuel filter. Then check all your timing marks and set the dynamic timing and idle. Once this is done you can start fault finding, but my money will be on the Blue temp sensor (in the flange on the front of the head, the black one gives your dash temp reading and the blue one gives signal to the ECU). You can get them new from VW for less than £20. FPR is unlikely to be at fault, unless the vac hose is no good, but this is easy to inspect. One other thing to check is that your vac line from the back of the throttle body to the ECU is 1m long, any other length and they seem to play up.

Looking good, enjoying this thread mate, keep it up :)

Standard cables are fine, as mentioned the only difference is it's an alloy caliper with internal handbrake mech and you need hoses with banjo ends. If you have the hoses it's essentially a like for like swap.

The timing marks are never completely static. Double check you aren't a tooth out on the cam as this is easily done on these engines. Have you replaced the o-ring on the idle screw? These are notorious for causing small air leaks that then affect idle. Have you removed and cleaned the ISV? Also worth trying a known good ISV off another car, the ABF (16v GTi) ones are the same fyi. The fact this is happening when up to temperature would always point to blue temp sensor causing an issue, have you looked at the wiring for this? I'd get the SNS chip fairly soon, mine ran very well with one of those fitted and it would eliminate another potential cause of your issues.

Can you pm me a contact number please

As above, I like an MOT, everything else is a bonus

Sorry, yeah http://www.onlychargeddubs.co.uk/

Fair enough, the Tesa tape I bought I wouldn't use in my engine bay, it's like a soft fabric and not particularly sticky
-
Tesa tape is for interior looms, for engine bays you want the Scapa Rayon stuff

Yeah the belts deteriorate; it's recommended you change them every 12 months - they cost a tenner and are easy to do :) You could try OCD for casing half too, Matt has quite a few spares I expect.

There's an 8v on ebay in your budget - been for sale for a while so I expect you can lowball him.

Interested in the diff, vibra technics mounts and water pump; prices? Can collect. Cheers

The pic on this one has the arrows https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-VW-CORRADO-REAR-BRAKE-PROPORTION-VALVE-1H0812431C-/142571283105?_trksid=p2385738.m4383.l4275.c10 It is my understanding that you clamp it closed (the arm down on the body of the valve) to open it fully. Strange that you can get fluid through with it in either position, I've always struggled to get any flow through them when not clamped in the correct position.
-
Jon, if you look at the valve there should be some arrows etched into it showing the flow direction through it, so you can check this way. They are a bit of a bugger sometimes, have you been bleeding the brakes with the valve clamped open?

I've definitely got a bracket you can have for postage money and you can get the bush from VW heritage for about £5, I bought one last year
-
I'd recommend them, easy to fit and do the job perfectly

Totally agree, I was told as a young man 'always buy the best you can afford' and I stupidly thought I could buy cheap, repair it myself and end up with an awesome motor on the cheap. What I actually ended up doing was driving sh*t bangers while my 'nice' car(s) sat in the garage for years being 'repaired', while I spent all my actual time keeping my bangers going. Hilariously, I'm in my 30s and I still haven't learnt my lesson, I've owned a G60 Corrado for 2 years and 1 month and I've only ever driven it home from where I bought it :( Spend £10k and enjoy driving your car..
