  1. You need red to yellow and yellow to red on VWs of this age - losing memory means permanent live is being switched off when removing the keys.
  2. What happens to the steering wheel position if you brake heavily? Accelerate (or brake heavily in reverse - on a car park with lots of room etc) quickly from standstill?

  4. Bugger.......... 2nd dibs should tigerfish decide to change his mind
  5. Are you trying to use the 8 digit account number or the long 16 digit number on the card?
  6. Why not just ask your regular garage to collect it?
  7. Find a garage that will collect, mot and return the car to you.
  8. PAS = Power Assisted Steering, there's still a physical connection between all components in the steering system as a failsafe. If I understand correctly after turning in either direction after negotiating the bend the steering wheel is no longer in the same position (normally straight ahead) as before the turn? Look for signs of the rack moving on it mounting - the bolts may be tight but are they actually holding the rack securely? Use a pry bar on the wishbone by the rear bush - are the bolts holding the wishbones securely? Are the engine / suspension subframe bolts tight and holding the subframe securely?

  10. http://www.jandrcvjoints.co.uk/alfa-romeo/ I've heard several good reports off T5 owners about these shafts (driveshafts and stubshafts are one of the achiles heel of T5 owners). Has anyone used them?
  11. Do Ford still stock VR6 engine bits?
  12. Making your own gaskets http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=gasket+paper&_sop=10&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xgasket+paper+sheet.TRS0&_nkw=gasket+paper+sheet&_sacat=0 O rings could be sourced from a pneumatic / hydraulic specialist?
  13. I had to do the NSF wheel bearing on mine a few weeks ago, the CV was seized in the hub so I had to remove the shaft with the hub and shove it out with a 20T press, my cheap 3 legged hub puller bent! The grease in the joint had lost its moisture content, the remaining 20 year old moly grease was like thick mud. I've put stripping and regreasing the drivers side on my to do list

    Few bits

Decent used ones tend to go for around £30 each on ebay anyway. Do Laminex have clear to cover the fogs?

  16. Disconnecting the battery will mean the ecu will have to relearn sensor perameters, the pump running could just be part of a safe start up sequence after the battery ahs been disconnected?

    polishing foglight glass

They used to polish the edges of cut glass for furniture etc with an abrasive stone lubricated with parafin

    polishing foglight glass

I'd try a 2 pack lacquer and then a flat and polish. Stone masons who do granite worktops etc use abrasive discs to cut and shape and plaster skim poured into plastic throw away cups to set first to polish cut edges to a shine
  19. I have a grey slam panel, free if you collect from Crewe. I also have an early rear bumper and G60 petrol tank, all free to collector.
  20. I went on the Saturday 2 years ago and it was very quiet, Sunday was good on the same weekend as was the weather both days. I wouldn't go on a Saturday again. As someone who went to the early ones at Crowethorne in Berkshire it now seems to be more for tuning companies to sell high priced tuning packages for R8s and other high end audis rather than grass roots VW stuff, no ecp or gsf, no main dealers flogging off slow moving / obsolete parts from there stockrooms etc Its now a bit like VW, living on its past reputation IMO
  21. You could take it to the local cruise
  22. I do like to see a car on the deck
  23. I think we need a guru to sort this, Redborbet has been mentioned, well he is from Hull
  24. It was OK until I fitted cheap coil overs wound down 200mm and stretch tyres, I suppose it was bound to happen schooner or later
